The Benzodiazepine Thread v. IV

Oh, forgot to ask - how would you compare temazepam to oxazepam?
Ash. <3

I find both to be utter useless. Ive tried both in larger doses seperately and no effect on temaz and next to nothing for ox. out of the two oxazepam would be the stronger in my opinion, but it takes way too long anyway.

Oh, forgot to ask - how would you compare temazepam to oxazepam? Not just for a sleep aid, as I find oxazepam almost useless as I mentioned, and it certainly isn't going to help me sleep. If you were in my shoes, would you consider temazepam a superior benzo to oxazepam? With my previous experiences with temazepam I've had the same sort of experience as with oxazepam, but I think this is probably because I have never taken enough. What would be a good dose of temazepam and also oxazepam to a a lesser degree. I currently have a mild benzo tolerance, I need at least 50mg of diazepam for a decent experience and I generally need 4-8mg alprazolam to get a nice result.

Sorry for posting like a much determined machine. :P

Hi Ash,

Thanks for the welcome :) I'm slowly getting the hang of things here, and finding out which forums have friendly helpful ppl,and which ones to avoid like the plague 8(

Sorry to say that I found temazepam even more useless than oxazepam...and I tried both in varying doses with not much more than slight sedation. And this was pre-xanax when my tolerance was practically non-existent.

These days my tolly levels are very similar to yours.

I'd certainly like to give clonazepam a go,but at the moment I get a script for 3-4mg of xanax a day from my psych, and my boyfriend gets 4mg a day from his psych,so I don't want to rock the boat on this beautiful thing we've got going ;)

I disagree re temazepam. Its definitely not the strongest benzo but its not useless. I can usually feel the effects at around 40mg. I find it subtly relaxing rather than the much more noticeable n effects you get with other benzos.

Even 20-30mg is ok for sleep purposes.

Thanks guys, so the general consensus is that both temazepam and oxazepam are relatively useless when one has a tolerance like mine. Just wondering what to request alongside the Valium instead of Serepax.

Yeah, don't rock the boat! I made that mistake years ago, and whilst I wasn't actually doctor shopping, I saw another doctor - because the surgery/doctor that I usually saw was closed for some unknown reason 3 days in a row when our next appointment was booked, no sign on the door, no message on their answering machine - and by the 3rd day, I really needed my scripts. So, this other doctor grudgingly agrees to prescribe my medication "just this once" after verifying that the other surgery was indeed closed. Anyway, turns out the pharmacy calls my original doctor and tells him that I collected a script in another physician's name! 8o

This resulted in my original GP (who I had been seeing for Xanax and Valium for around 4 years), blacklisting me from his practice and whenever my medical records were requested when I was looking for a new GP he would fax them through with a big BOLDED "Xanax - Doctor Shopper" as the main headline. :( As you can imagine, this made finding a new GP extremely difficult but if there's a will then there is a way. :)

Like you and your boy, I had a beautiful thing going with that quack - 100x 2mg alprazolam #5 repeats (8mg four times daily) + 100x 5mg Valium #5 repeats (30mg twice daily). Despite going in to the practice and asking to speak with the doctor to explain the mix up, I was asked to leave and treated like a monster.

So, don't rock that boat MissNervosa. I did, and it fucking capsized! :P

Yeah, don't rock the boat!

im a bit paranoid now that I have rocked le boat. Last doc i went to , to try get clonaz (he gave me shitty oxaz!) he gave me a massive talk saying how alarms bells rise when an ex pysc patient (was admitted 4 years ago) asks for benzos saying how im just dr shopping. Really put me down and made me feel like shit, how they made me feel when I was wrongly diagnosed with bipolar and schizophrenia and classing me like a looney.
Anyway went to get some codeiene at the chemist yesterday and im not sure if i was paranoid or not but they took way too long to print of a name tag and held my license for quite a while. bit paranoid to go to a dif doctor now of fears that ive been blacklisted. im i paranoid>?

I think you're just being paranoid about what happened at the pharmacy. I doubt your doctor, despite sounding like a jerk, would have put you on the blacklist - though, I could be wrong. But being on the blacklist for doctor shopping won't affect your ability to buy tablets containing codeine (i.e. Panafen Plus, Nurofen Plus, etc.) as they don't require a prescription and are classified as S3 medicines which means they are behind the counter and require the permission of the pharmacist on duty to dispense. Though most places just hand them over, no questions asked. I have never been asked for my ID, but I know people that have, and I have been buying 30 count packets of Panafen Plus to help me through withdrawal in between weekly shots of heroin.

That is absolutely fucking mental!! What a horrible experience,I'm sorry you had to go through that,it was truly unfair :( And what a snitchy little tattle tale pharmacy as well!
Glad you were able to find another GP.

These days I'm super casual with my psych when it comes to Xanax.I'll complain about antidepressants and ask to switch doses or pills, but I never mention Xanax unless he asks, and then I'm like "Yep it's really helpful" and that's it.I don't even ask for refills, and wait for him to bring it up and ask if I need it,then I'm like "Oh I've still got some left, but I think I might be on my last repeat".Lol I play it super innocent, and he seems to have gotten the impression that I'm a well behaved good girl, and as such has never asked if I've ever done any "street drugs" or if I've been dependent on anything before :p I know this makes me sound like a devious bitch, but since I had such a bad Xanax dependence a few years ago,I do keep my dose to 1-2 mg daily, and only take more if I really need it,and only rarely use them recreationally,so I'm not all bad %)

Thank god mr. blonde, who is the most sensible
person on this board, has finally, and wisely, started
a thread on benzos with the above mentioned rules.

I Too, am sick of people abusing these drugs to the extent
that they blackout and have amnesia etc.. Who really cares!!!

It also angers me that people abuse these drugs, they're not meant
to be abused, you idiots, there meant to be taken lightly so that they
calm anxious people such as myself, it's because of people like that why
it's so hard for me to get a benzo script for my severe anxiety these days.

That being said, i'm hooked on benzo's in my own way, i'm addicted to ' em
but i don't overdo or abuse them, i take them as prescribed, 3 .25 mg alprazolam
tabs a day. They work wonders, i just hope i have good access to benzos forever.

peace

I feel the exact same way! People that abuse drugs make it so hard for people like us who legitimately need them!! I'm rxd .5 clonazepam 2x daily but most of the time i don't even need it as I have social anxiety and have pretty much become a shut in :(

Sorry guys, I'm wasted on a large dose of diazepam, 8mg buprenoprhine, mild dose of oxazepam. Finding everything a tad confusing <3

Saw Dr. Quack on 16/07/12, and was prescribed 25x 2mg alprazolam, Xanax brand.

He said that they should last me until an appointment for me on 22/08/2012 August. The doctor is reducing my reliance on benzodiazepines wanting to get me down to 1x 2mg tablet per day. Hence the reduction from my previous script whch was 40x 2mg alprazolam taken twice a day. Prior to take I had been scripted 50x 2mg alprazolam to be taken 3 times daily for around 6 months maybe longer.

Now, I recall the doctor saying that the 25x 2mg alprazolam should last for 30 something days, hence the appointment he made to see him on 22/08/2012 (which is 38 days yes?) Having thought about it, if I was taking 1.5 2mg tablets daily, a 25 count bottle should only last me 16 days. Right?

I think the doctor did his calculations wrong thinking he prescribed me 50x 2mg alprazolam as opposed to 25. He is very anal about coming in for a script early, so said don't come until the 22/08. Correct me if I'm wrong but 1.5 daily / 50 tablets = 33 days, but 1.5 daily / 50 tablets = 16 days - if he had of worked it out thinking he prescribed 50 then, 1.5 / 50 = 33 days.

I should be due for more Xanax from Dr. Quack tomorrow, 31/7/2012, correct?

Well, I went to an appointment with the aforementioned doctor today at 4:00 PM. He realized that he had only prescribed 25 x 2mg alprazolam, as opposed to 50 x 2mg. So, I asked if I could just get the whole 50 during this consultation to avoid having to come back every 16 days just to pick up a prescription for 25 2mg Xanax - he agreed to this, on the condition that I don't abuse them as he WILL NOT write another script prior to the next appointment - 3/09/2012 - which equates to 33 days or so @ 3mg/day.

Thanks to brimmy helped me work that out last night, 55mg diazepam and 150mg oxazepam made thinking rather difficult. :)

Your math makes sense (if he really did prescribe 1.5 daily).

And what a snitchy little tattle tale pharmacy as well!

I'm learning in Pharmacy Technician training that we have to report a lot of shit I'm totally not comfortable with, and I don't know how I'm going to reconcile myself to the juxtaposition of not wanting to rat anyone out for any reason but knowing that if I fill a script that is wrong, tampered with, just whatever, job is gone, my license is gone, I get sued by the pharmacy, and charged with a felony by the DEA.

Benzo prescriptions are notoriously tampered with. Dr says no refills, patient changes it. Dr. says ten tablets, patient adds a zero so it's 100 tablets. I like Benzos and take all the ones I get prescribed, plus any others from family members who want to share with me. In fact, studying Benzos has been good fun. I'm in love with them now more than ever. I haven't had any for a long time because I can't come up positive for Benzos on randoms... pharms don't hire benzonauts.

Do doctors still use script pads these days? So that a patient can change a 10 count script to 100 by adding a zero. As far as I was aware prescriptions were all done via the medical management software and printed on that perforated prescription paper.

^ Some still use handwritten scripts, but you're right, the vast majority are printed electronically

^ My psych is 75 and writes them by hand.Lol he doesn't even have a computer in his office :-P Having said that,he has a shitload of knowledge about all the older drugs!

It was so insanely busy in the pharmacy today... I worked my first shift as a pharm tech intern. Nothing in the classroom prepared me for the fast pace of all the techs behind the counter trying not to knock each other down while filling script after script after script.

I saw my first Xanax bars today. That was cool. I filled plenty of Benzo scripts but I was back in the shelves with a print out from the computer. I didn't work the cash register, I didn't see any handwritten or otherwise written scripts. All I saw was print outs and I had to use the print out to fill the script and label the bottle. The time flew by.

I'm taking one of my kpins now and laying down. It's hot and I'm sweaty and tired. I had an excellent time though.

really needed some benzos today for strong panic attack that has been going for over 40 hours now due to some personal news. got sum indian doc that cld barely speak english and only gave me scummy nitrazapam, i told him it was too weak for me and i couldnt udnerstand what he was saying until i read the script he gave me. grrr
