Oh well to each its own, prohibition doesn't work, criminals don't respect laws, victim disarmament programs only strenghten criminal elements and turn honest law-abiding citizens into prey.

I think it can quite easily be shown that gun prohibition does work:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number_of_guns_per_capita_by_country
US almost 1 gun per head. UK 6.2 guns per 100 people, most of which are held by people with licenses.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_firearm-related_death_rate
10 people per 100,000 die via firearms in the US vs 0.5% in the UK. So in the US they have 14x more guns and 20x more people per head of population die by getting shot. Sounds like a system that has proven itself well.
I take it you just applied as 'Kenny' rather than using your full name, then?
I don't support the US system, I'm all for a licensing process, had to go through it myself, safety classes and background checks, mental health checks before you're issued a permit, the Swiss model is quite good, it's compromise between the overly restricted UK system and the overly permissive US one.

(At least the U.K vs U.S gun crime stats are pretty if not entirely convincing imo).
Yeah but looking at those stats, gun ownership is 7x higher in Switzerland than here, and their gun related murder rate is 14x higher. That pretty much means that if they bothered to own guns at the rate they do in the US, even with these background and mental health checks, they'd have similar rates of gun homicide (although it's a bit unpredictable). So it obviously doesn't work to protect people. The fact that a country as wealthy as Switzerland can have a gun related homicide rate so much higher than here, which is basically a shit hole by comparison, is ridiculous!

A little price to pay to feel safer in one's home, I'm a firm believer in the Castle Doctrine, as a citizen you have the basic right of not being a victim in your own nest, and thus should be allowed to own and use instruments that might help you ensure the safety of your loved ones. To be honest mate there's no chance of making me change my mind I'm one of those activists who writes to MPs complaining about laws limiting the amount of ammo you can buy and store, threaten to boycott political parties if they dare ban semi-auto rifles, and the list go on. Thank god I'm not a yank, I'd definately be a tea party nutter over there.
10 people per 100,000 = 0.01%
That's smaller than 0.5%.
Think you made an error? Specifically, in the UK it's 0.46 per 100,000 = 0.00045%
^ Is that really from the Visit Bulgaria site? Wow I'm totally convinced, does Ryan Air fly there?
