It wasn't me that created that meme. Tried to find a better one without a glaringly obvious mistake in it but that one still wins regardless.

Edit - I've no idea what this one says but the picture is a cracker =D

I think it might say "Why troll a page, why troll a forum, why troll a site... when you can troll a whole nation?" lol.

Oh well to each its own, prohibition doesn't work, criminals don't respect laws, victim disarmament programs only strenghten criminal elements and turn honest law-abiding citizens into prey.

I think it can quite easily be shown that gun prohibition does work:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number_of_guns_per_capita_by_country

US almost 1 gun per head. UK 6.2 guns per 100 people, most of which are held by people with licenses.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_firearm-related_death_rate

10 people per 100,000 die via firearms in the US vs 0.5% in the UK. So in the US they have 14x more guns and 20x more people per head of population die by getting shot. Sounds like a system that has proven itself well.

That's cool, except there's a direct correlation between gun control and low levels of gun crime in first world nations.

The whole myth that people protect themselves with guns is just that, a myth. Nobody shot down that kid in the cinema last week, and didn't stats show that guns in the home are more likely to be used against their occupants than against invaders?

You're right, organized crime will always have guns, but since they mostly use them to shoot other organized criminals, it really doesn't matter in the long run. What matters is keeping them out of the hands of unbalanced psychos and jealous husbands and paranoid nutjobs and angry kids and everyone else who wouldn't be capable of buying a gun from gun runner, but would absolutely be capable of buying it from a gun store and using it in the heat of the moment or because they just flipped out or because they thought the person entering their house is a burglar or because they dropped it and the safety is off.

I don't support the US system, I'm all for a licensing process, had to go through it myself, safety classes and background checks, mental health checks before you're issued a permit, the Swiss model is quite good, it's compromise between the overly restricted UK system and the overly permissive US one.

Yeah but looking at those stats, gun ownership is 7x higher in Switzerland than here, and their gun related murder rate is 14x higher. That pretty much means that if they bothered to own guns at the rate they do in the US, even with these background and mental health checks, they'd have similar rates of gun homicide (although it's a bit unpredictable). So it obviously doesn't work to protect people. The fact that a country as wealthy as Switzerland can have a gun related homicide rate so much higher than here, which is basically a shit hole by comparison, is ridiculous!

Demand for gun ownership is clearly not in most peoples interests & prohibition does help (mostly) on this front.

The desire to get high is an inbuilt natural function, akin to wanting to explore the globe. We love to explore our minds.

(At least the U.K vs U.S gun crime stats are pretty if not entirely convincing imo).

A little price to pay to feel safer in one's home, I'm a firm believer in the Castle Doctrine, as a citizen you have the basic right of not being a victim in your own nest, and thus should be allowed to own and use instruments that might help you ensure the safety of your loved ones. To be honest mate there's no chance of making me change my mind I'm one of those activists who writes to MPs complaining about laws limiting the amount of ammo you can buy and store, threaten to boycott political parties if they dare ban semi-auto rifles, and the list go on. Thank god I'm not a yank, I'd definately be a tea party nutter over there.

10 people per 100,000 = 0.01%

That's smaller than 0.5%.

Think you made an error? Specifically, in ENGLAND/WALES it's 0.46 per 100,000 = 0.00045%

Interestingly in Scotland it's 0.58 per 100,000. Why don't I hear more gunshots?

Maybe you take up krav maga? You could seriously fuck over anyone entering your home. I quite like that in the UK, it is extremely unlikely that an intruder will bring with them a gun. In Switzerland I assume that it is much higher. I can see how you think of it as a fundamental right to own a gun, I just think their ability to protect their own is overrated by a long way. I think it just increases your chances of getting shot by other people, and therefore decreases your safety.

I didn't mean to write %, I meant to just write 0.5 people per 100,000. Not express it as a percentage.

^ Is that really from the Visit Bulgaria site? Wow I'm totally convinced, does Ryan Air fly there?

they fly over Bulgaria and parachute drop you off, if they landed the gypsies would sell the plane for scrap value. Once you're in Bulgaria there is no way out unless you are pretty enough to be smuggled over seas as a slave prostitute by the mafia.

HAHAAHAHAH

I went to the Ukraine and that seemed to be the only route out. They're desperate to keep young people there because it's one of the few countries with negative population growth.

Least you admit there's no logic behind your opinion I guess.
