Yes, nurture can be taken to just mean 'environment', but it is a word loaded with ideas of positive parenting, encouragement etc. These nuances of meaning in innocent words can subtly affect how we think about things, and I prefer to try to eliminate such sources of biased thought by being a stickler for semantics!
I didn't ever get a degree despite the protestations of my parents and much of my adult life I've spent trying to prove that I could be successful without it. I think I managed, but now I'm sat here half way through my life thinking I could have spent my time so much better, in many ways! How is your "prove them wrong" plan going?
