If anyone needs any motivation to get back in the gym here you go:

Absolutely insane! I hope i'm still pumping iron and exercising at her age. I've always said I don't think exercise extends your life, only improves it, and she definitely seems happier than a lot of 70+ year olds! I'm gonna have to get my grandma and grandad a pull up bar, a treadmill and a set of free weights for christmas :D

^^ Impressive.

Black people do seem to age better than white folk though.

70+ isn't a bad age to be really. Guess some people are built better for it.
Some tough looking b*stards @ my old work place must of been in their 70s. Yet I wouldn't stand a chance against em in most physical competition (bar maybe running).

The uncertainty of life makes it all too easy to be pessimistic and apathetic.

My old boss was 71 and still bodybuilding and he was huge. Kept his tan up as well. And when he asked me how old he was the first time I said in all honesty 55. Still had 18-20 inch guns and everything.

Get on it cornishman! The bigger your muscles get the more of a buzz you get and the more of a feedback loop you have.

I did read an article about a bodybuilder who managed to get a cramp in his 24 inch bicep, and apparently the bigger the muscle the more the cramp hurts lol. I read another article about a bodybuilder who had to be put into an MRI scanner feet first upto his arm pits because his shoulders were too wide to fit into the machine haha. When I worked over in the imaging dept of a hospital near me they went on break and left a trainee nurse to set things up with this whale of a man. She put him in the machine and he got stuck LOL. All I could see through the window were his legs kicking frantically and the trainee freaking out. In the end I think he had to be taken to the zoo.

Had a killer workout earlier on, 4 sets 10 incline bench 55kg, 4 sets 10 flat dumbell chest press 18kg, 4 sets 10 cable crosses 20-25kg, 4 sets 10 barbell curls 27.5kg, 4 sets 10 with the cables fuck knows what you call it lol for biceps though if anyone has a clue what I mean, 4 sets 10 preacher curls, 4 sets 10 arm extentions, 4 sets 12 sit up machine, 4 sets 12 sit ups with 5kg ball...

Was fucking burst after all that earlier, only had 5hrs sleep aswell so nakard now alright. Back or legs tomorrow I've not decided. Not eaten enough today I'm thinking only 4 meals so far, boiled eggs, egg fried rice, chicken & tomato mayo baguette, dinner.. 2 pro shakes aswell.

Honestly feel ruined. Early night after the footy tonight.

Sounds good, if over doing it a tad? I dunno... My preference has generally always been for 3 x 8 or 4 x 6. Also, what group were you trying to target today? You've done chest exercises, tricep exercises and also bicep exercises? I think the name you're looking for is 'cable bicep curl' btw :D

I had my chest day today:

Half mile run to get the heart going, spent a while stretching out.

Bench Press: 1x6 72.5kg
2x8 67.5kg

Arnold Press: 3x8 20kg each arm

Cable Pushdown: 3x10 55kg

Leg raise (abs): 3x10 5kg in between feet

Incline dumbbell press 1x8 25kg
2x7 22.5kg

Crunches, various ab exercises

Topped off with skull crushers with a tricep bar: 3 x 8 37.5kg

I did the cable push downs, then the leg raises off the bench then the push downs til both sets of 3 were complete, and did the same thing with the incline dumbbell press and the crunch routine too. This sped up the routine, and meant I didn't waste too much time resting. I am quite a strong believer in getting it all done within about 45 minutes or you're going to start to flag or go into endurance rather than hypertrophy/strength building mode.

Stretch off, drink recon drink then drink double ON shake %):D

O and how come you didn't get enough sleep RS? Sleep is one of the most important parts!

I'm not convinced you'd like my work out tunes Dan. I'm not convinced many people would. They are usually down the posthardcore/deathmetalish/metal/screamo genre, with shit loads of screaming and going mental. The angrier the better, it makes me push more weight for some reason. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kEGFPt_3YY I know almost everyone will hate this before anyone starts! Don't even listen to it PTCH lol) If i'm running though I just whack on any dnb/house/electro remix that catches my eye, get my head down and run. www.ibiza-voice.com is good for those. It has hundreds of podcasts. Then there is redbullmusicacademyradio which has another few thousand mixes from loads of different genres, just take your pic.

I don't listen to the music I usually listen to in the gym. It was another BL'er who originally recommended it for working out. I've even listened to heavy metal in the gym, which I usually hate.

I've no tunes for the gym at the moment since the last upload to my blackberry fucked up somehow, need to fix that.

If I were to seriously recommend stuff I think you'd like dan, since I very much doubt you're into death metal, I'd probably put some RATM or SOAD on, that should sort yer out .. even Limp Biskit or Papa Roach or whatever

Grungey stuff too. irony is good ;p

haven't heard this in ages ... from Wild at Heart

Powermad - Slaughterhouse ..

What heavy metal songs have you had on the go RS? Can you recommend me anything metally please marmz, i'm running dry and i'm sick of referring to my 14 year old self for musical inspiration lol. I'll have to listen to them when Mrs SB isn't about cus she's already nagging at me for putting on Norma Jean LOL.

MSB - I didn't get enough sleep cos I'd been out the night before, so drunk sleep, then went to gym and did my back on a sunday, then fucked about last night watching shite and facebooking til 2am, up at 7.. 3 hours short. I agree sleep is cruicial. I'd say routine is pretty important too, like being up early and going to bed at a reasonable hour.

I've been throwing bits of cardio back in too. 10mins split interval at the start of half my gym sessions, alot of walking, and I'm hitting the boxing pads on thursday with my mate.

I don't get your work out though really. Why are you working out chest, triceps, legs etc all on the same day? Have you not got a programme? Also only 1 or 2 sets? Hmm not convinced with that really. Different things work for different people but you'd definately be better doing a few exercises on one group of muscles then another one the next day, give it death then time to recover. I'm sure you know this though obviously so it's making me think you were doing a whole body work out. I do similar on a sat, deadlifts, squats, clean and jerk, weighted pull ups, usually do abs too.

I was actually going on the lighter side today. Back work out yesterday resulted in my chest not being totally rested today so went slightly less than usual on the bench and skipped flys. Tomorrow will just be a run, cardio and abs.

I think you misunderstand the purpose of my leg raises. They work the abs, particularly the lower abs which are difficult to target. They also allow you to add weight so you aren't doing hundreds of reps on your abs, but instead just 8-12.

Chest and triceps are mutually exclusive i.e. you can do compound moves and you work both at the same time e.g. bench press. This is what I mean by doing 'push' days. So today has been chest/tris/bit of shoulders and abs. So my front has been worked. Tomorrow will be legs, and the day after that biceps and upper/lower back. It is almost impossible to work your chest without also doing your tris and your shoulders. This helps avoid training the same muscles two days in a row and makes sure they definitely get an almost complete rest.

Also, I haven't be doing 1 set of anything. If you look there is 1 set at a certain weight, that weight is then lowered for the next 2 sets on the same exercise because I couldn't handle doing all 3x8 at the same weight. On the next rotation it will probably all be at the same weight, then the rotation after that I will push it up by another 2.5-5kg for the first set then lower it for the 2nd and 3rd. This allows me to up my weights constantly.

Ya dig?

Your better off doing the light weights first then the heavier ones for less reps, then if you want drop the weight and just do it til failure.

Yeah I know what you mean leg raises I misread was thinking leg extentions. I usually stick with chest/biceps monday, bit of cardio/legs tues, back on thurs shoulders/tri's on fri, I do abs most days tbh. Bit of cardio when I can be arsed.

I get weaker after the first set though, so that's why I start with a higher weight then drop down if I have to. I don't know if I have to lower the weight until i've tried upping the weight first though? Your split seems ok, I just don't think it's for me. I like to focus on the big compound strength exercises: bench press, deadlifts, squats, clean and jerks (more focus on the jerk). Basically integrating Mark Rippetoes starting strength into a decent split that works for me. I do proper cardio on days when i'm not aiming to build my strength because I don't feel you can do proper cardio and proper lifting at the same time, one has to give. So I focus on lifting or cardio, with a little of the other mixed in.

I'll pull you out a playlist when I'm at my pc either tonight or in the morning. need to be able to rifle through my music externals (3TBs worth n years of hoarding)

currently in bed with my laptop

Dubstep can only be listened to on days where too much ketamine has been consumed.

Brilliant legs/calves work out today. 4 sets 10 reps squats, 4 sets 10 reps leg press, 3 sets leg extentions til failure, 3 sets leg curls 12 reps. Absolutely fucked after. Did 2 x 3mile walks over the day too.

Cardio tomorrow then abs, it should be my day off but I figure cardio on the days off should be fine.

Did 21s today (love/hate them). Also did some French press, decline sit ups, and the sit ups you do whilst cycling your legs, on your back and touching elbow to opposite knee - don't know the name - then straight to plank. My mate tried to kill me with ab work, today. Last Friday, I did side raises, front raises, chest press, 21s, French press, decline sit ups and something else. I walk all the time. Keeping off the half a stone I've lost. I just do whatever I feel like, with a little structure. It's working, so....

As for music, Slipknot's first album for weights, and hardcore for cardio. A lot of metal will get metal lovers very pumped - like being in a good pit.
