Recommend YET MORE movies per post

I'd say that Wossy's the kinda critic whose personal tastes are well-known enough that you can probly judge whether to agree or disagree with his recommendations based on what you know of his taste. Personally, I'd say he has damn fine taste in terms of "World Cinema" (especially Far Eastern stuff) and also genre films (meaning sci-fi, fantasy, horror, "cult" kinda stuff) and would most likely agree with his recommendations of such fare. I'd suspect he gets to mention the more obscure stuff that he does mixed in with mainstream stuff on Film 20xx cos I presume he's semi-freelance. The low-budget/foreign/limited release stuff that gets a mention towards the end of the show would be more personal recommendations based on specialist knowledge of such stuff cos he's a well-known fanboy of those films. The Hollywood reviews are bread and butter that gives the show mass-appeal. And he's an all-round film buff anyway. I actually do rate his reviews meself. And may be well off the mark with the "semi-freelance" suggestion. Seems that's the case to me anyway cos he definitely slips in plenty of cultish fillums you don't tend to see mentioned by most mainstream critics.

In vaguely related news, he did some comics/graphic novels a while back which looked great. Bet he'd turn out better films than his missus does if he got the chance anyway :D

The thing that really made me begin (a little too late admittedly) to respect his opinion on films was when he actually reviewed his own wife's film. I mean he gave it a slightly higher rating than he might otherwise have done, but he did actually give it fairly level headed criticism. The best thing about him is that you can gauge how good a film is by the amount of enthusiasm in his voice for it. But if it's a ridiculously niche Japanese film then you really really can't trust him at all (unless you love that sort of thing).

^ I do love "that sort of thing" and can assure you he's spot on with his reviews of "ridiculously niche" Japanese (and other) films. He knows his niche stuff backwards and for those of us who also obsess over such niches his opinions tend to be right on the money.

@ Shambles: bath based sans hair dye (cyclamen), my head is wrapped in clingfilm (for heat), and on top of that I've got a stupid knitted hat on so I don't get dye everywhere.
and obv looking VERY BLOODY SEXY as a result

/FACT

Surely the case. Nekkid wimminz + bubbles + clingfilm + knitted hat + chemical whiff = VERY BLOODY SEXY: I have no doubt ;)

/moderate perving

I presume cyclamen dye would be purply-pinky? Have some purple hair dye I've fancied a go at for years now. Never gotten 'round to it. Never dyed me hair at all for that matter. Have dark hair so not sure if it would do owt. My ex had same colour hair as me and same dye and mostly just looked black. Did have a pleasingly subtle purplish tinge when the light caught it though. Best I could hope for short of bleaching it first and going for full-on plumhead stylee, I spose.

On topic, also have Goon lined up and may join in the mass viewing and reviewing of it later. My what a can o' worms Mr SB opened on this one 8o8(=D

I know i'm absolutely fucked here... You recommend 10-20 films that people would regret if they didn't see them before snuffing it, and the one that 5 or so people end up watching is the one that is just a fair amount better than most generic mainstream cinema stuff =D:p

hah! I was just about to say 'well done Shambles (re Goon) ... let's pile on thee pressure' =D

I'm 7.04 in anyway

It's got the same writers as superbad, how to train your dragon, and pineapple express. My mind is at least slightly at rest lol. In other film related news, I cannot believe they are remaking total recall. I am pissed off. I am of the impression that if a film is perfect in every possible way you should not take a big shit all over it by remaking it. And remaking it with fecking Colin Farrell as Douglas Quaid :X And letting the director of underworld direct it? I might just take a laser pen to my retinas now, just so I don't have to see the trailers.

Loving your sales pitch =D

RUSH's Working Man just entered the soundtrack ... they used to be my fave band. +5 points ... it's currently scoring a -20 overall ;p

I know what's gonna happen. You're all going to come away from the film thinking "wow, that was way better than The Godfather, Dr Strangelove, and Scarface all put together. But i'm going to say it was shit just to piss MSG off" :(

and then you're going to accuse us all of being in a clique and only liking films recommended by the guardian, a battle will ensue, YPDH will some how get involved without actually watching it, SHM will turn up just to call you a cunt and then eventually kate will come in and delete any evidence of a goon recommendation ever existing. it is the eadd way.

I have the Guardian at least vaguely on my side for once, muhahahahaha

the rock?

the rock?

ahh Christopher Walken...

but still.

the rock?
I used to have this vision of the rock as a wwf wanker etc...
Then I watched the rundown and I actually liked him as an actor, miles better then Steven Seagull!
Walking Tall based upon a true story is another good one of his, as is gridirion gang. There might be a load of other shitty films of him out there but I haven't watched those.
