Hmm... interesting points worth a ponder.

Not sure on the facepalming bit (probably cos I doubt that'll ever change for me) but can see where you're coming from. Comfort in ones (increasingly slack and pockmarked) skin perhaps is possibly the guage I'm using at the moment. Started a thread on such things... a few days back, in fact.

As for the possibility of dying thing, that plays big with me at the moment. Think you may be onto summat there. As with (I suspect) quite a few folks here death was so very impossibly cool and so very coolly impossible in my youth. Was an ambition never yet realised. Then it all gets a bit too real when folk start dying. Not just suicide or "misadventure" stuff I'd always wished for but plain ol' unavoidable "you really are mortal" stuff like cancer, heart disease and the like. Seems so much harsher somehow. And so much more real.

Knowing - beginning to understand - that your time has largely passed is certainly a... thing. That's quite big. And definitely not there through youthful years. But the flipside is making it matter, I suppose. The precise point where youthful cocksuredness smashes up against the eternal void is probably a great time to play though. Which keeps it in the mid/late-30s band. For me anyway. So far. So I shall play

Yeah getting to terms with illness and fucked up shit is probably part of it too. I felt pretty invincible, even up to a couple of years ago. I don't like to think your time is ever past, you just move through the phases. Some are just a fuck load better than others :D The thing I dislike most about moving through the phases is that it does make you feel rather 'shat out of the otherside'. You don't see it coming.

just turned 61 and narrowed down what I take but all in all, methadone and heroin is a preservative. Been going since 1966 when the 2$ bags were bigger than 3 10's today. Everything in moderation. Take a day or 2 off every week. I'm good for another 30 since all my relatives usually reach 95. Except my poor uncle. He died young at 93 lol

Aye, nothing makes reality hit than loved ones dying.. especially an an early age. Accidental drug deaths, though they dont hurt us left behind any less, theres a kind of the risk of the fun aspect to it in my eyes, compared with terminal illness's or even being hit by a car. Hope y'all know what i mean.

I should be by all means dead and i still feel invincible! Well not really, im just an irresponsible cunt . But yeah i've just come back from a mates 51st nd you wouldnt think shes a day over 30, and by the way she acts in those kinda social situations, a teenager of summat haha, one of those life and soul of the place people with a laugh to match it. But then, i know people of all ages, of all different mental ages, age really is just a number in my book (except for the health things, but thats just a risk increase not a sentence, my fucking back went the other week)

I was apparently born dead (umbilical cord biznizz) so have always taken owt since then as a bonus. Died again from a massive (albeit accidental) heroin OD 25 or so years later and it got a bit more real (mainly cos the friends around me were discussing hacking me up with machetes and dumping me in bins around town to avoid attention when I finally came round) then relatives died from unnatural causes then acquaintances from unnatural causes and now friends and lovers from unavoidable causes. Tis shite to be honest. Then you realise you're getting old too

What's worse is that the latterly are people I see as being in the prime of life - more youthful than me in many ways. Ya just never know when the axe will fall is probably the lesson most learnt so far. Shitty lesson but such is life. And lack thereof.

On the plus side, it makes the enjoying not being dead bit more precious.

My daughter was in halls with a lad of 26 which she described as 'old' when she was 18. Now she's 23 and he's one of her best mates she still sees from uni.

Yeah I doubt ill mention that I'm any older tbh. When you're younger a year or two seems like more, suppose its cause some people are still very immature around 18.

Failed miserably at A levels but am now doing what I love - music. Can't wait :D

I'm told I look about 10 years younger than I am. I put it down to gb.

I was talking to someone when I was in hospital and at one point he commented "you're about the same age as me" at which point I asked "how old are you?" and got the reply "32 years old". After informing him I would probably be classed as the tail end of his parents' generation, he commented that I didn't look my age. At thias point I couldn't resit it and said "Well I don't smoke cigartettes, only drink ocasionally so I put it down to my clean & healthy lifestyle!"

Actually after thinking about it, I wonder if I hadn't made myself into a pharmacological test ground, would I still be being asked for identity to prove my age on the occasions that I do fancy a bottle of beer? I put my looks down to my body being at the whim of a totally immature attitude to life... (hey it worked for peter pan! )
