The Alcohol thread...

Juark I guess shit comes down to personal opinion because in my opinion spirits are fucking delicious with the right mixer. Granted I don't really like wine or beer but it is hard to imagine someone couldn't find a single alcoholic drink out of hundreds that they enjoy even slightly.

Very true, I'm only a young adult, so I have many years ahead of testing other beverages, I'm sure I'll find one I like eventually.

I remember the first time I drank some cruisers (actually, archers which no longer even exist, haha) trying to be cool and not showing how DISGUSTING I found them, the alcohol tasted so strong! These days I can't even taste the alcohol in cruisers at all, and if I ordered a vodka lemonade at a bar and just got lemonade I'd probably be none the wiser.

But, as you said, there's no point drinking lots of it just so you get used to it, it's probably counterproductive really. I wish I still hated alcohol, that's one drug that hasn't brought much positive into my life at all.

Though a cold beer on a warm day is pretty special ;)

I feel the same as you. A can of bourbon these days is nearly all cola.

There used to be more alcohol content in premixed drinks before the alcopops tax. So your taste buds probably are probably telling you the truth when you say you can't taste the alcohol anymore. Can't explain the vodka lemonade at the bar though unless it's tolerance.

Yeah, I know they've dropped alcohol percentages in most drinks, even beer, which is annoying. I'm definitely more tolerant to the taste of alcohol itself though too now though.

They dropped Jim Beam cans to 1.1% at the height of the alcopop tax. It was never advertised you had to read it yourself on the can. Now they are back to 1.3% alcohol.

I wouldn't drink vodka cruisers or and pre mixed can if you killed me. Plus if I consumed the same amount if alcohol as i do now through those drinks I would have diabetes from sugar.

Give me single malt straight any day! Hmmm I can taste the peaty smokiness swirling aroundy tongue now.

Otherwise if you don't like tast of alcohol but want to get high try 3 x 50 ml shots of vodka within about 15 min and use a chaser like coke or juice straight after and your technique is good and vodka ok quality (not smirnoff) then you should get nothing more than a slight aftr burn.

Fuck it I going to the bottle shop now.

Cheers!

^^ sorry that post above really doesn't have much to do with HR, so I will add that maybe it is not a good idea to drink that much vodka that quickly to start your night off unless your a heavy drinker - but the ROA is good if you don't actually like the taste of certain spirits and don't want to drink heaps of mixer.

And don't drink and drive!

Now of to the bottle shop!

Peace

Footscrazy: This article quotes scientific papers discussing the phenomenon of alcoholism and endorphins. I will also see if I can find specific papers talking about this as well.
Interesting, my family has a long line of opiates abuse, and almost every family member I can think of was/is an alcoholic (..damn Dad..)

Yet, I dislike alcohol and opiates.
A blessing in disguise perhaps :)
.. I also ended up being the only one to make it to university for generations.

run outta beers today, so i'm on the Cider!!!! Pear Cider YO.

tomorrows weather looks fine 31degrees i think.

I think its perfecto for another poooool party

i'm 27 and there's none i like.
to be fair though, i used to drink (before i got an opiate habit) but to me, they're all flavourings of the same thing. sure, a chocolate liqueur might have a nice taste, but to me it's the chocolate, not the ethanol.
a bit like saying that maybe if you keep trying different strains of cannabis you'll find one you like, even if you don't like weed. as far as i'm concerned, alcohol is alcohol - you like it or you don't.

^^ I beg differ on that one. Different types
of booze will fuck you up differently just like smoking a potent strain of hydro will be completely stronger thus giving quite a different high than bio or hash.
Just like getting pissed of beer is totally different than drinking spirits

My friend does this to drunk patrons quite often. It's easier than refusing service, you get a nice tip and they are none the wiser.

Anger at Aldi's booze for a buck

Aldi to sell beers for just $1a can
Health officials say it will burden hospitals
Aldi says impact will be negligible

DISCOUNT supermarket giant Aldi will begin stocking its shelves with $1 beers - including 80c cans of light - across New South Wales from next year, despite objections from NSW Health.
The state's licensing authority has shrugged off warnings against selling super-cheap alcohol in supermarkets to give Aldi the green light for 34 outlets to stock beer for $1 a can and wine for as little as $2.25 a litre.
Health officials formally objected to the issuing of the new liquor licences, particularly in some regional and rural areas, insisting the increased access will "contribute to further alcohol-related harm and negative health outcomes".
It would also "place additional burden on hospitals, ambulance services and emergency departments".

But the Casino Liquor and Gaming Control Authority signed off on them, and is considering another 20 outlets.
The alcohol will be sold unrefrigerated in a separate space to the grocery aisles although shoppers will be able to also use the liquor area check-out to purchase non-alcohol items.
NSW Health objected to the liquor applications in nine out of 11 Aldi applications lodged before August, including at Ulladulla, Hamilton, Crooks Hill, Greenhills, Raymond Terrace, Taree and Muswellbrook.
Beer prices at Aldi stores start at $8.99 for a six-pack of Smith Clyde Lager to $19.99 for a carton of Storm Brewing Premium Light Beer. Four-litre casks of wine are available for less than $9 and bottles of sherry are sold for under $5.

Labor MP Walt Secord called on the state government to ensure youngsters could not have access to cheap alcohol.
"Unfortunately, high-risk alcohol use is increasing in our young people and we must look at ways to reduce their access to alcohol," he said.
The Ulladulla and Districts Community Resource Centre also complained to the licensing authority, saying there were already enough outlets "in a low-income area with high unemployment and major alcohol problems, and that another alcohol outlet was not needed".

Aldi has argued that its restrained opening hours compared with traditional bottle shops, and ban on quantity-based promotional offers such as two-for-one deals meant its impact would be negligible.
An Aldi spokeswoman rejected suggestions the licences would result in increased consumption of alcohol.

"The introduction of liquor to NSW stores will provide NSW customers with the same convenient shopping experience that (Victoria and the ACT) currently experience," she said.
Salvation Army recovery services clinical director Gerard Byrne called on the state government to restrict the number of liquor licences.
Mr Byrne said the rapid expansion of alcohol sales in retail outlets and supermarkets was contributing to the state's worsening alcohol crisis and called for a moratorium on new licences.

yes...there are different types of both cannabis and alcohol - but if someone said "i don't like marijuana", i'd respect their judgement.
most people know themselves well enough to make the call whether something is for them or not.
if someone insists that they didn't like weed, i wouldn't say "oh, but you'll love this hash" or "why don't you try one of these cookies".

i think just because alcohol comes in many flavours and forms, with shiny labels and fancy bottles, associated with different places, different cultures, different social contexts...and just because it is legal, accepted and consumed by a large cross-section of the community - doesn't mean it has infinite appeal or universal enjoyment.

it might not be very common to meet people who hate consuming alcohol in all its forms (especially dope fiends like myself on drug forums) but we do exist. i'm sure there are many reasons for having that kind of aversion. taste, effect etc.

as for the idea that beer and spirits have different effects...well, it's been a long while since i've gotten drunk on either - but maybe it has something to do with the rate of absorption?
the active ingredient is hydroxyethane any which way you take it. it's a bit like saying the effects of sniffing methamphetamine are different to injecting it intravenously - true enough, but it's still the same chemical.
there might be some differences in the way various drinks are consumed, and slight differences in how the alcohol effects your consciousness, but that arguably has a lot to do with how you diluted it is, how quickly you drink it and the presumptions you have in consuming it.

Yes!
I read this morning and was surprised :O
I see tonnes of my younger friends always buying "Fruity Lexia" or "Goon" whatever you want to call it, a sack for $10.
Now shit's even cheaper, many more parties ahead for teens I see.

Wonder if they'll be coming to SE QLD.. I wouldn't buy it anyway.
