I'm just tucking into series 2 of Breaking Bad. Definitely hooked but I'm finding it startlingly realistic in some respects and a bit wacky in others. The dialogue is great, the characters are broadly credible. The diagnosis and resultant family situation is handled extremely well and methinks by someone with experience of this process. There is a lot there which rings true from my own experience of the impact of that disease on a family. I feel slightly as though Walter's transformation into a bit of a psycho has come too quickly and that he makes irrational decisions which place him in fantastical situations... but then again it wouldn't be so watchable if he behaved like a normal person.
So I like it a lot and I will doubtless watch the rest unless they take it somewhere stupid later. It doesn't touch me like The Wire did but it's extremely good. No spoilers pls.
If someone had asked me during season 2 does this show compete with The Wire, I would have said almost. But now after finishing S4 i'd say it's better! If you think Walter's gone off the rails now, just wait!
Only up to the 4th episode of the first series. Found it a little slow at times but I'm gonna get back into it, sounds as if there's plenty of good stuff to come.
It's a novel, not a short story :D Bare with it and you won't regret it. It has a slow come up but the peak is just immense.
