Show us something cool in your house

Well, I'm sure you've got a smartphone, Shammo. :p

:D

Working on it, Josh.

Actually i don't have a smartphone. Never have. Don't have a camera either for that matter. I do have an extensive collection of cup-a-soup mix though so it all balances out :D

I was facetiously suggesting that you didn't have "at least a rudimentary understanding of the internet". I knew what you meant. ;)

I'd kill for a Campbell's carrot & coriander right now. :D

Tinned soup! fuck that. What's wrong with my fresh leek and spicy ham risotto with extra veg cunt :p

Shammy, tell him. My food is good.

Your food does always look rather scrummy, Ms Kate. Definitely better than a tin of carrot n coriander soup. Felix, consider yourself telt :!

I'm telt alright. :p

Those that know, know.

I had one of those =D

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE KSCSCHCSHCSHCSH EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

And all accompanied with the smell of burning paper.

OMG, really? :D

That sound. That pitiful performance. Those horrendously expensive rolls of thermal paper. All in grey on silver. In text. =D

Did not expect that reply from you for some reason. Cool. Hehe.

Yup. Connected to the 48k rubber keyboard Speccy that was my constant companion for much of my childhood up until I finally gave in and accepted a 128k +2. Then went a bit bohemian and got a SAM Coupe. How niche is that 8o

128k +2? Even more spoiled than Cletus and I with our own 48Ks. :D

Don't even know what a SAM Coupe is. But if it's in a loft somewhere, ebay might be interested. :)

Technically only the SAM Coupe was ever mine. It was an attempt to make a (sort of) 16bit version of the Speccy once they'd stopped being produced. Very much geeky fanboy stuff. Probably is worth a few quid on sheer obscurity value (they probably made about a dozen in some bloke's shed or summat) but no idea where it is now unfortunately.

You should maybe have another look :D

And Kate tries to tell us you are not a hoarder?

I won't deny I have hoarding tendencies, but it's not something that is causing a problem. We'll be having another clear out soon.

I get the feeling you have personal experience of someone being a hoarder?

seeing as the thread seems to be heading towards 'retro' and 'quirky' i have these.

My mate had one of those Panasonic radio cassettes in the early 80s and it sounded fantastic, i was always envious of it, it was so much better than my red Hitachi effort, so i got one off ebay a few years ago for £20, as i still have hundreds of cassettes, but they sound really shit now. Dunno if the tape heads on the Panasonic are worn out or something but its been a huge disappointment, i was hoping to listen to all my old tapes in decent quality and all i get is a muffled & tinny annoying 'sound', not the crystal clear, booming sound that i remembered at all. :\

the 3rd pic is a broken windchyme that i reckon looks ok as a shelf sitting ornament :?, also the 'rustic' egg cup produced in their thousands by hardworking hippies who ran a pottery in the village i grew up in. I used to have a few of their mugs also, emblazoned with dragons and other mythical creatures, and a load more egg cups. They've all either broke or disappeared over the years sadly. The mugs really were pretty cool. I might have some in my shed if im lucky, dont think so though. :( Complete one off uniques, every one of them.

I looked into ebaying the acetronic games, but they dont even sell for 99p. I was hoping they'd be cult collectors items or something by now, but sadly not it seems.

Finally, "handy mini storage drawers" that the previous home owners left behind, it took me several years to find a use for them, when i get this house organization project moving on a bit more, i hope to find something to put in each of the drawers. I can predict Kate telling me i need to clean or dust the walls, i cant argue with that, the kitchen is quite dimly lit so didnt notice the state of the walls until i took that flash pic.

1. I assumed retro and quirky were a given! Have been from the start.

2. Do you have a tape head cleaning tape? I'm sure you know this, but a manky tape head will just make the tapes manky, which leads to further degradation of the head. I used to have success cleaning the heads manually with cotton buds and a cleaning solution. (Top tip: get a CD cleaning kit from Poundland and use the solution from it.)

3. Try selling them as a bundle? Look for Acetronic forums, cuddle up to the users and see if anyone there would take them off your hands.

Cool stuff. :)

p.s. Get rid of the magazines, mate. Never gonna look at them again. ;)

BTW, MBD: we used to have one of these:

Fun for all the family in the late 70s.

They are actually hiking magazines believe it or not, and not what you may have been thinking they were. I do occasionally look at them. :p

Tried the tape head cleaner to no avail. :\

I didn't even consider what type of magazines they were. But now you mention it... hiking magazines? Well I never.

You maybe cleaned the head well, and maybe it's your tapes that are the problem. :\ I gave up on tape players & tapes years ago for the same problem... well, also & mainly because CDs exist.

Hiking magazines?

You should have just pretended they were jazz mags, MDB. :|
