Jobseeker's Allowance Megathread ver. We're all overqualified!

Even though i was on JSA i was assigned a disabilty advisor. Go figure that one out because I cant, water under the bridge now anyway. His outlook was completely different to my JSA advisor, who was all about laying down the rules, but the disabilty advisor was actually focussed on trying to help me, rather than trying his hardest to be a pain in the arse and to find ways in which i might have failed to comply with anything like the JSA guy was. I guess each person was only doing their job, but i really disliked the jsa advisor, he had no respect for the unemployed. I'd have happily put a bullet through his head.

To be perfectly honest, it's not even a wonder it's a presumption based on previous behaviour. Jobs for the boys all the way. Of course I suppose I would say that but that kinda stuff happens so often it's at the stage where if you read a newpaper story about an honest MP you wouldn't believe it. Although it would certainly make the headlines cos they seem to be a rare beast. Not even just Tories either (although they do seem to be especially bad).

I'm sure there must be good, honest MPs who do genuinely work for the betterment of their constituents, but they stand no chance when facing the Old School Tie Brigade and the like. Let alone all the murky bizniz interests and side-jobs doing "consultancy" work and the like. I actually tend to agree with that idea of MPs being paid more - but only if they stick to being MPs and resign all their dubious lil sidelines.

A manchester MP called Goggins died last month. He was genuinely regarded as being a kind, decent and principled politician by everyone. Cameron, Milliband, Blunkett, his constituents, the mayor etc etc. I was astounded that such a person existed, i thought the last ones with any principles were Claire Short, Tony Benn etc but it seems even today there are or were such people. Maybe he was it, and hes dead now 8o

Christ these threads go fast lol. My disability adviser is lovely. She said it's it to me when I see her so I arranged some time in february. She's pleased that I'm study n doing voluntary work. I was so very stressed my first work related interview but she put me right at ease either phoned me in the morning so I wouldn't forget about my appointment. I thought that was kind of her. And my God you tell any of them you Have a codeine addiction they can't do enough for you n tell you take your time n get better lol. I'm not joking either!

MDB - I had a friend called Lewis who was on jsa n had a disability officer. In fact a lot of people did. It's normal n nothing strange. As you say s/he was different. I used a disability officer to get two jobs when I was on incapacity benefit. She was called Wendy. I blagged her head when I got the jobs as I needed everything to be right so I wasn't committing fraud. I was there an hour with her getting her to phone the benefits people to make them aware that I was starting work n they must not pay me benefit as I was petified of getting it wrong n going to jail. So yea they're supportive n that is really quite ordinary.

I'll possibly incriminate myself if i go into any further detail so i cant really elaborate on that im afraid.

Ah sorry brain's gone down the toilet today lol of course. Mind you I've told everyone I was buying codeine from online pharmacy as its not illegal. Mind you I told my drug n alcohol server I'd done this n they said as I had bought them illicitly they could take me on??? Wtf? It wasn't illicit what I was doing getting 60 mg codeine tabs. Codeine is legal.

as i decided to claim JSA rather than ESA just for the sake of straightforward simplicity i had to keep completely quiet about my drug use, there might have been a whole mine field of "failing to comply" type issues arising out of that otherwise.

That may well be the case now (I've not been on JSA for years) but it never used to be. I admitted to drug use every time cos I prefer to be as honest as possible even when the system isn't. Of course it helps when you know you're not gonna get sanctioned and stuff for it. Back when I was signing you could even get signed off onto Income Support (ESA equivalent) for being addicted. I think things are much tougher now though and I'd not be happy to admit to drug use unless I'd spoken to advisors and the like to confirm it wouldn't affect my claim.

Ironically enough, I worked much of the time when I was addicted cos it's amazing what you can put up with if you're smacked off yer nut.

Not quite, Evey. OTC products are obviously legal but pure codeine (or DHC) products are not unless you have a prescription.

In the United Kingdom, the sale and possession of codeine are restricted separately under law.
Neat codeine and higher-strength codeine formulations are generally prescription-only medicines (POM) meaning that the sale of such products is restricted under the Medicines Act 1968. Lower-strength products containing combinations of up to 12.8 mg of codeine per dosage unit, combined with paracetamol, ibuprofen or aspirin are available behind the counter at pharmacies. Codeine linctus of 15 mg per 5 ml is also available at some pharmacies, although a purchaser would have to request it specifically from the pharmacist.
Under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 codeine is a Class B controlled substance or a Class A drug when prepared for injection.[43] The possession of controlled substances without a prescription is a criminal offence.[44] However, certain preparations of codeine are exempt from this restriction under Schedule 5 of the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001. It is thus legal to possess codeine without a prescription, provided that it is compounded with at least one other active or inactive ingredient and that the dosage of each tablet, capsule, etc does not exceed 100 mg or 2.5% concentration in the case of liquid preparations. The exemptions do not to apply to any preparation of codeine designed for injection.[45]

U.K. #
Codeine is Schedule II/Class b in the U.K., making it illegal to buy or possess without a prescription. Products containing small amounts of codeine (such as Tylenol w/codeine, Feminax (8 mg), and Solpadeine Max or Neurofen Plus (12.5 mg)) are available over-the-counter without prescription. Codeine Linctus (200ml 15mg/5ml) are available in some pharmacies with no prescription needed and can also be purchased via *snip* from a UK-based online pharmacy, requiring answers to questions by email to fill the order. (thanks c) (last updated Jan 19 2012)

(hehe. been a while since i last *snip*'d anything :D)

Codeine
Codeine is a class B, schedule 2 drug. If prepared for injection it becomes a class A substance. It is illegal to possess without prescription or to supply or produce without a licence.

Illegal possession carries a maximum sentence of 5 years’ imprisonment and a fine. Trafficking offences carry a maximum sentence of 14 years’ imprisonment and a fine.

Possession of class A drugs carries a maximum sentence of 7 years’ imprisonment and/a fine. Trafficking offences carry a maximum sentence of life imprisonment and a fine.

Certain online pharmacy "doctors" or "pharamacists" have to process requests for prescription only medicines, such as pure codeine. It is down to their discretion. AFAIK the 6mg or is it 8mg codeine and paracetomol pills are availble OTC, but anything with more codeine in it than that requires a prescription. Whether it be from a proper doctor, or some dodgy internet pharamacy.

Oh..... I showed the tabs to my doctor n he never said anything just asked if the sites were foreign. Mind you buying off them was a nightmare. Kinda glad i don't now but fuuuuuuujckkk ai miss those 60s n having like 10 of them at once with some linctus some n+ n some 15s. Wow those were the days. Nice warm feeling of cosiness bliss!

Thanks will look at that :)

Ok has anyone been on any courses from the job centre ? I wouldn't mind trying a few. I did a course by a company called Genesis for single mams, on confidence building. Was good as a short term intervention - really motivated me at the time. I was ummming n arrring over filling in my application for MSc WM. Kept thinking I'd fail n hadn't completed degree at the time (kept thinking I'd fail that) so wasn't sure - but the steps course really inspired me to go ahead. So I recommend people look into that. I think other companies run them n it's a really good thing to put on your CV if you're out of work.

So yes any courses you know of that you've attended n benefited from please let me know.

Evey xxxx
