Zolpidem

i was prescribed zolpidem as an alternative to tastes-like-metal zopiclone and the increasingly hard to acquire benzos. i remember being thoroughly unimpressed and forgot all about them for a while. one evening when low on drugs i decided to pop a couple with some methadone, sat down and had a bong while i was waiting.. then boom! suddenly the familiar surroundings of my abode melted away to be replaced by a whitish void and three or more entities attempting to communicate with me. i was so fucked i couldnt recall anything they said, but when i did start coming back i'd lost almost 45mins. i was totally unprepared for the intensity of the experience and was glad i was sat on my arse at home and not out on the main road outside my flat

stopped taking them after i discovered i was sleepwalking at night, though sleepwalking isnt the half of it. people have wrote pages of stuff while ostensibly asleep. my advice is, if you aint into doing weird shit - make sure youre tucked away in bed before they kick in

the 'zopi's' are all pretty similar quick acting sedative with a v short 1/2life 3-4 hours so they get u to sleep then you wake up in the middle of the night. Amate of mine loves them - i gave him a box of 7.5mg as i cant stand them i like benzos - valium preferably

I've been on and off it since needing hypnotics. I was on it until rather recently actually.
First time I was under loads of stress and it seemed to cause the wonderfully named "Exploding Head Syndrome" when I was just about to nod off.

But tried it again not so long ago and it was working fairly well. But then I started drinking a lot again and I'd wake up the next day to find everyone in the house was proper pissed with me as I'd be making wonderfully burnt cheese toasties and setting the first alarm off at 4am, rambling with people online and saying some fucked up things, setting my alarm then turning it off - Only to wake and not remember one single piece of these nights 8(
Worries me a lot does my Amnesia...

Anyhoo, back on Temazepam now and it's working better than before due to Zolpidem's short half-life.

Find it very weird that your GP had never heard of it - They wish to prescribe it more as a replacement for Benzos (or atleast they did) as it was "safer and not as addictive blahdyblaaahbleeeh"

As Karl Pilkington would say: Bullshit!

I'm off to the doctors tm to discuss my ADs and to talk about my ongoing insomia, it's getting out of hand, some days I have to lock myself in a toilet cubical at work at lunchtime, set my phone alarm and catch 1/2hour sleep.

I rarely if ever get more than 3-4 hrs in a row and then maybe a bit if broken sleep after that, followed by a 12hr working day it can be tough going.

Z drugs do little to nothing for me, I'm reluctant to go back down the Benzo root, my anxiety can be trouble some and I find them such a relief leading to increasing dosage and tolerance.

I might see about trying to switch to something like Seroquel as I'm sure the current 150mgs of Venlafaxine is contributing to the insomnia, it's certainly responsible for the weirdo dreams I have during broken sleep.

In desperation I got a few Etilaam in and managed about 5 hrs last night solid which was a relief but I'm not seeing that as a long term answer.

hey monstanoodle, what form did your EHS take? that shit sounds crazy
Yo Monkey :)

Yea mate it's a seriously fuckin weird condition as it is!
... The only way I can explain it is that it felt like I was being bombarded by a blast of silence (which it's the silliest oxymoron lol).
Orrrrr how it feels when there's a sudden large pressure change.

Some people have explosions, blasts of white noise etc. etc. but I've never heard of another person who has had a similar experience to mine.
It was a combination of high stress and anxiety levels and the Zolpidem seemingly triggered it to the n-th degree for reasons I cannot fathom :?

Most people seem to say the same, they are OK..ish for a few days then useless, I would advice caution on abusing them, I've done as many as 10 in a day, didnt get a lot off them but had quite some problems when I stopped.

I'm pretty certain I could get some this afternoon at the docs but it seem pointless, for me Z drugs are just shire, I'm convinced that the right benzo would be a much better option for acute insomnia, I could probably get a short script of benzos but I can't face the weekly hassle of having to go back and get a lecture about dependants, if i wanted to go that way I'd just get them myself, the docs in general really don't seem to get this vital point. Mine certainly doesnt even though he knows I've had an illicit benzo habit more than once in the past.

I've tried a few Etiz the last couple of days to good effect, it's no long term answer but it has been a welcome break from insomnia and seemingly much cleaner than Diaz which I just don't want to go near again if i can avoid it.

The waking up to an empty blister strip of Zolpidem is a very common occurrence! 8(
And it does seem that taking any more than 20-30mg doesn't really increase the effects too much.

atm - What you say about Etiz feeling more clean than Diaz: That's what I like about Diaz, I like that little fluffy barrier between the world and my perception of it.
It makes sense as to why I had thoughts that they were bunk tablets, they're just not one to cloud the mind. Must be quite nice for those that need a cloudless one :)

lmao, the most apt pseudonym ever to do a post about that med.

the meds shit anyway. my username i chose,we were talking about some random shit and someone said "you must have a screw loose". so i tried spelling what i thought was an alternative before realising it is highly unoriginal.i am on no other forum.damn should have chosen 6inchhardpenis.dont think there is anyone else with that username.wrong thread.back on topic.

Agreed on that one, once I started crunching and snorting them, A habit I picked up in residential care, I'd do a weeks supply in a day just for kicks, think I'll be giving them a mis in future the WD was 'orrible, I was on holiday with my family at the time...not good.

I've had quite a nasty habit with Diaz in the past, finally got off them in June, but I've been up to 300mgs a day ( not proud of this at all ) I know what you mean about the longer action and I did like the constant presence of it there in my systems but it's not practical for me.

I've been dabbling with short acting stuff Xanax and Etiz, not much but my insomnia is becoming a long term problem and I've taken a few steps backwards with my anxiety after being isolated from the world for months after smashing my leg to bits so I'm trying a bit of relief from those feelings in the hope it will help me get on track rather then lead to another bout of benzo abuse. I find the shorter acting stuff easier to deal with, that may be just due to learnt behaviors around Diaz, I used it for quite a long time, with booze as well, although it did help me in getting rid of the booze. I would take a lot or pursuation to take it again for fear of triggering old behaviors, like mecking 60mgs first thin in the morning then driving the car:|

It's so bloody easy and... It's almost possessive innit???
Weird substance and I've not had the "pleasure" of the WDs - But that brings me on to this.....

It's the short acting Benzos that you've really got to watch out for - It's exactly the same as the Zolpidem problem. They can be popped and popped and popped and you find yourself back in those withdrawals that slap you in the face and kick you in the balls at the same time out of nowhere :\
It's why Diazepam and / or Chlordiazepoxide are used for tapering Benzo addiction; because of their long half-life. Akin to how Methadone and Buprenorphine are used in Opiate addiction (but like you seemingly experienced with Diaz, Methadone's worse to come off than gear!).

It's a tricky one man - Please watch yerself. I know I don't need to say that as you know full well what could happen. But take care of yerself and try keep the short-acting ones at an every-now-n-again-arm's length! <3

I found snorting quite good TBH, no good for sleep but a definite short term bit if wonkyness, make sure you separate out that coting from the powder though

Atm23 have you tried mirtazepine for a sleep aid? Ive been a chronic insominac for about 10 years both early waking and trouble getting to sleep. Im alfeady addicted to the zopiclone so it isnt enough to put me asleep anymore due to tolerance, so the mirtazepine is a godsend as it knocks most people clean out. And has a long lasting action at the histemic(sp?) Receptors so you sleep for alot longer. I think it can be used alongside venlafaxzine aswell as its a NaSSa(i think) and doest carry the ss risk of other ADs. Thanks again guys your posts, your replies have been thoughtful and frequently funny and really make me feel welcome.:-)

Also hearing these etizolams mentioned alot around here and I know that there a benzo analogue and perscribed alot in the far east but how do they compare to the traditional benzos and z drugs?

noodle - that makes sense. total silence can be deafening

seems like you got off lightly though, im sure youve read of it but some people get voices, explosions and even gunshots.. really loud, just as theyre drifting to sleep. what crazy things these minds of ours are

luckily i have fairly normal sleeping habits, have experienced sleep paralysis though - which is also weird and scary at times

Started on the linctus.I'LL give it a whirl maybe Sunday. My faith is in you ATMfor this crap.If nowt, crushed smarties it is.

I used to palm them when in care, easy done as i never use water ti swallow tabls, then go back to my room crush and snort, definite buzz much better than oral. One fateful evening I decided to try a chlorpromazine , this was the single worst thing I have ever snorted by quite some distance,it still hurt 4 days later. Don;t ask me why I did it I was in a bad way at the time.

I'vbe snorted Zolpidem a number of times, its definitely worth a a go, like I said though make sure you separate out the coating material first, its easy enough to spot, I'd do 2 at once as well if poss.

Let us know how you get on the first time is almost always the best.
