z-drugs more addcitve/more abuse potential than regular benzos IMO/IME

first of all most of the z drugs like zolpidem and zaleplon have 2 hour half-lives which is why they are so addictive, and also provide a euphoria when abused. i have samples of lunesta which i'm saving until i run out of ambien, but i have Rx's for ambien, ambien CR, sonata and rozerem, and trial packs of lunesta. i've never abused any drug as much as i have been abusing sleeping pills. i was an opioid addict for 1.5 years and never abused to the point where i was taking 20 pills in one sitting... i'm on suboxone now for the opiate addiction but right now if i had to choose i'd take ambien/sonata over painkillers any day of the week. maybe i'm biased about that now, but i really find sleeping z-drugs to be extremely addictive and habit-forming and euphoric.

anyone here think z-drugs (ambien, sonata, imovane, lunesta, etc) are as addictive (or more so) than regular benzodiazepines?
 
i despise ambien. sonata, i never felt much from. what affects do you get and what dosage? i recently found 2 10 mg sonata pills from 6 years ago that i had forgotten i had.
 
ambien doesn't hold a flame to benzos IMO.

anything becomes pretty addicting in a sense when you use it to fall asleep, especially when you like/need/want sleep.
 
I don't think the w/d's are as bad as the benzos. I've used Ambien and imovane over extended periods (60 days) and didn't get any w/d's except rebound insomnia when I stopped taking them. I took Midazolam for short periods (10 days) and got light physical w/d's when I stopped taking it. Much stronger than the nonbenzos though.

They are all somewhat habit forming but I'd say benzo's win in that respect as well. If someone offered me 100 Dormicum or 100 Ambien, I'd rather take the Dormicum. I'm sure other heavy hypnotics are even more recreational and addictive like Flunitrazepam.
 
I have really bad insomnia so I've been taking Ambien every night for the past 6 months. I don't think I'm psychologically addicted but i cant sleep without Ambien so I might be physically addicted.
And about the sonata dosage, I've found from personal experience that snorting 20mgs gives most potent effects. Unless you have tolerance to it or something, snorting more than 20mgs is a waste of sonata cause its not going to effect you more. I've only taken Sonata orally once, after that i figured out that its already in a powder in the capsule and all I need to to is pop it open and rail it and I would hear voices.
 
what does sonata do though? ambien got me all fucked up, like dreaming while awake. sonata didnt really do anything.
 
^When insufflated, it gives a Z-drug buzz with a very rapid onset. Some people report hallucinatory effects. IME, it felt like an emptier, less enjoyable version of a benzo. The one time zaleplon actually worked for me orally, the buzz was really quite hard to describe. It felt benzo-like but with a weird dreamy edge to it. It almost felt like a combination of a benzo and a low-plateau DXM dose, IMO. Overall, I didn't find zaleplon to be overly enjoyable.

On to the OP's topic, I'm prescribed zopiclone and have been taking it nightly for 2 years now. I haven't run into any sort of dependence, although tolerance has become a factor. I can easily stop the medication and miss doses if I need to. I personally don't find zopiclone to be especially recreational, although it's *quite* useful for sleep.

^^ i run through my prescriptions faster than any other Rx med i've ever had...

Sonata 10mg 60 count - gone in 4 days.
Ambien 10mg 60 count - gone in 5 days
Ambien CR 12.5mg 7 count - gone in one night
Ambien CR 12.5mg 30 count - gone in 3 days.

have a bunch of sample packets for lunesta but saving those for when i'm desparate.

just took 120mg of ambien CR but ONLY the IR version (the beige inner layer) so i sniffed 120mg of zolpidem IR. i feel good, not tired at all unfortunately, but i only took 10mg of valium today and not my full 20mg a day Rx'd dose. i've snorted 170mg of zaleplon (Sonata) before and have had a better high than any benzo and up there with opioids in terms of euphoria not necessarily body sensations like opioids provide.

I have abused benzos, xanax, valium, klonopin, ativan, librium, etc. but none ever intrigued me enough to continue abusing at high doses, like i do with z-drugs...they have shorter half-lifes and more rapid onset (i believe) which is why i think if abused, they will have higher potential for abuse/addiction than benzos.
 
People either love or hate the z drugs. Personally, I hate them. I've gone through heaps of scripts of Stilnox and I usually end up taking 5 pills and mixing them with alcohol just to get some good effects. They're fucking expensive here too, because the z drugs are not covered on the PBS.

Give me a strong hypnotic benzo like Nitrazepam any day of the week.

I've never been too keen on the Z drugs, although I've only done ambien. The "buzz" from ambien was never very impressive to me. Ambien is really overrated IMHO. I have seen some visual anomalies on ambien, but I've never had any kind of a profound or even just a really fun experience with it. I had a prescription for 10mg ambien pills back when it first became popular. The most I ever took at once was about 25mg.

I get the most euphoria from longer acting benzos such as valium and clonazepam. They are my poison of choice. I like them because I can take them at any time of the day. They are therapeutic and recreational at the same time. They help with anxiety and depression, and they can make me feel relaxed and content. The main problem is that tolerance makes it hard to maintain a benzo habit and the fear of running out of pills causes anxiety on it's own. Benzo addiction sucks. I've heard Z drugs don't cause as much of a physical dependence.
 
Ambien is pretty addictive, I abused it ALOT.

The first night I got it and took 10 mg, I felt really good, and asked for another one(said I couldnt sleep)
and got messed up.

That lead to taking it during the day.
That lead to taking it all the time.
Then I got addicted.
After 6 months of ambien everyday...
I decided I cant do it anymore, so I used the script for 20 mg once a night (like I was scripted)
took it down to 15, down to 10, down to 5, and thank god Im finally off it.
 
yes zolpidem is extremely addictive, you build a tolerance and have them during the day time when they also give euphoria are anxiolytic like say xanax

so essentially you end up with a drug that aids sleep as well as benzos, is as anxiolytic as benzos, is more euphoric than benzos for daytime use. A few benzos in one without the physical withdrawal syndrome = win/win
 
I don't think the z drugs hold a light to opioids/ates.

Though, I might be biased. I used to like ambien, but after one night where, following a coke binge, I was up and arguing with the wife, without any memory, I am done with that shit. Now, when I want to end a coke/speed binge, I take a seroquel 100-200 mg, and say goodnight.no worry about sleep driving (not that I did that, but I could have) or any of that embarrassing and dangerous shit.

personally the only thing i found fun from this family of drugs, specifically ambien (oral) and sonata (nasal), is this relaxed state of delerium. However, that goes away sooner rather than later, and then they do NOTHING. Make you a little drowsy, but even as a sleep med, weaker than benadryl IMO.

The two best RX sleeping meds (imo) - Temazepam, and of course Xyrem (GHB, or sodium oxybate, whatever you wanna call it, it kicks ass)

And there is no way ambien is more addictive than temazepam. People were losing limbs cuz they were shooting geltabs of temazepam. The only thing i heard about ambien is people acting weird, sleep-driving, etc and thats usually republican politicians, for some reason. Also, during one of the studies, someone committed suicide while recieving the placebo.
 
Ambien would probably prove more addictive in a real head to head test, especially if provided IV.
 
I love zolpidem! however id take a benzo over it any day. Even the non-hypnotic benzos make me feel better and sleep more soundly than ambien.

I love taking high doses of ambien though, I get a good relaxing high from it. For some reason I always feel like there are entities surrounding me when im on ambien. It isn't scary or anything its actually just plain weird. But as far as pill preference goes its: painkillers > benzos > ambien.
