Your "Has my psychedelic kicked in yet?" Test

when things start to look plastic and fake and have some sort of weird sheen to them....and my eyes and head start feeling funny and my lips go numb

I use the term X for ecstasy, and it definitely confused me too, but I was on mobile so logging in to change it would have been a little difficult - thanks :D

For me personally, and I'm sure others will agree on this - on any drug I like to go to the bathroom frequently when I'm waiting for the effects to start, I almost always realise just how hard it's kicking in when I go to the bathroom. Sometimes I've had trips where it seems rather light and I'm underwhelmed, then I go to the bathroom and boom the walls are melting - and this happens for other drugs too, especially alcohol. I wonder why we tend to notice the effects more in the bathroom? Maybe just because we're alone with our thoughts and the drug? :)

this. plus you are forced to look at yourself in the mirror and it's obvious you're fucked!

Actually I think it's time to hit the head ;-)

For me it tends to be I'm thinking "When is it going to kick in?"
Then eventually it just happens and I don't really notice it until after it has kicked in, although I generally only get this with LSD.

How could you not notice it starting? It usually hits me all at once and I get something intense happening eg. my friend walking across the room and seeing the tracers of him all across the room.

I have never had a drugs effects just hit me "all at once", not even DMT. Even with DMT I will first feel the body rush and notice really blurred vision before any crazy visuals set in. Ofcourse this is all in a matter of 15 seconds, but it is not all at once.

As for the longer lasting psyches I always notice a change in my thoughts before I start to really trip. Maybe a bit of anxiety as well, depending on what psych was taken.

I am not very observant of things like that, plus I have HPPD to the point where I get minor breathing, static vision, things getting bigger and smaller, brighter lights and colours etc so much sober

I get my headphones and listen to something from The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, by Pink Floyd. It's a 99% accurate test.

If headphones are not available, looking straight at my eyes at the mirror also works.

For me, if Im taking mushrooms, the first thing I notice is this sence of uneasyness and that the world is somehow justa a little different. thats when I know Im coming up. As for LSD, Ill constantly be asking myself, "is it kicking in yet" and it hasnt. 5 minutes later i ask again. it hasnt. Then suddenly without realising it im enjoying my night tripping and 6 hours later think, "oh hey... it kicked in lol" But as for any psychadelic at all, it gets INTENSE whenever I go to the bathroom. I think its just because your alone in such a tiny room. pretty crazy

I stop everything I'm doing, stand completely still and look around and just observe. I can usually tell within a few seconds, usually by my body load or thought process. Then I smile and nod my head to myself and know it's coming.

Regardless of the psychedelic, it begins with a slightly sedative feeling. Like I'm starting to sink into another state. The altered state is not yet there, but I have a feel of not being sober either. When the trip begins I might get stimulated (or not, again depending on the substance), but even with acid I feel a bit dull when I first notice the effects (the sedated feeling lasts for maybe 5-10 minutes on acid, then it starts becoming stimulating).

Strange, I notice this too now that you mention it. And like you say, all substances. I'll be drunk rocking a piss and talking to myself in my head and realise how smashed I am.

Or realise I've wandered off in thought while washing my hands, staring into my face... Yeah the acids kicked in!

My alert is very hard to put into words. A sort of psychedelic lightheadedness, like my reality is shifted or I'm slipping somehow. Usually only lasts a few seconds with anything that's not a tryptamine.

with LSD my one tell i always get is my sinuses go all weird.
i get a strange almost faintly metallicy smell coming over my nose and my sinuses go weird, ie they dont act normal.

i really couldnt describe it well if i tried.

i think some of you know what i mean though.

i usually just get that feeling that things would be so much better if i had some headphones on with music turned up....

used to be that i watched the wood grain looking for it to start flowing, but that only works with chems that are visual....

As many as have said different people alert to various effects on the come up. However personally I have been able to notice easiest when I stay relatively calm and sedated and then simply stand up. For me standing up puts me into a altered state of consciousness fairly rapidly.

my saliva regularly starts to taste a bit like metal.

I get that too, but I just put it down to me sucking on the tab for a long time.
Normally I'll be outside when tripping... so as soon as the grass starts to wave up & down, or the clouds start looking even more amazing.

EDIT: should have said 'tab' is acid, blotter paper. English term, don't know if Americans use it

Yes, they do ;)

For me, it's usually just a point in time where I just "know", sort of like a mental click that things are not what they used to be.

My first alerts usually come on rather quickly, and it's usualy just giddyness or a touch of light-headedness. Also while walking the room starts rolling a little. My tell-tale sign of trippin' balls is when rolling a joint gets difficult.. Normally it's breaze but especially on a decent mushroom or acid trip my fingers just.don't seem to co-operate...
