Your Favourite Quotes and Sayings

When I admire the wonders of a sunset or the beauty of the moon, my soul expands in the worship of the creator.
Mahatma Gandhi

“I was not content to believe in a personal devil and serve him, in the ordinary sense of the word. I wanted to get hold of him personally and become his chief of staff.”

“I generally avoid temptation unless I can't resist it.” Mae West

My quotes for today are all from the Dalai Lama XIV. I like to think of them as I practise yoga.

“Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.”

“Love is the absence of judgement.”

“If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito.”

“There is a saying in Tibetan, 'Tragedy should be utilized as a source of strength.' No matter what sort of difficulties, how painful experience is, if we lose our hope, that's our real disaster.”

“My religion is very simple. My religion is kindness.”

“Women only love those that they don’t know.”

That is not true for all women - remember some of us adopt and love others' babies, children, old people, family and friends near and afar. For some of us women love is unconditional, later in life it gets like that for us. It is one of the joys of ageing Sammy %)

Stop being so fucking cynical and its your turn for the tea <3

Sorry, couldn't resist. :D

I always spring that Lermontov quote out for controversy's sake alone, but that isn't to say I don't disagree entirely. Tea's coming right up.

Unconditional love? Nah. Beautiful idea, but I've never witnessed it in real life. There are always conditions.

It happened with me when I got married. However it didn't last as much as would have wished for. I have only myself to blame as she was indeed doing her best.
Bloody fucking opiates!!
now it's okay but no longer unconditional..

That's why your coming to Scotland on your hols this summer, then you'll see its real ;)

"Like an engine of execution, I've descended on the heads of the condemned, often without malice, but always without pity. My love has brought no one happiness, for I've never sacrificed a thing for those I've loved. I've loved for myself, for my own pleasure, I've only tried to satisfy a strange inner need. I've fed on their feelings, love, joys and sufferings, and always wanted more. I'm like a starving man who falls asleep exhausted and sees rich food and sparkling wines before him. He rapturously falls on these phantom gifts of the imagination and feels better, but the moment he wakes up his dream disappears and he's left more hungry and desperate than before.”

Do I have to smack your wrist every time you don't reference hmm?

That quote saddens me for you. xxx

“Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”

“Women only love those that they don’t know.”

I know you just quoted that for controversy's sake.. to some degree its true. But then you'd need to look at definitions of Love. Eg:Eros Love ( which is often powerful but ultimately illusory in and of itself); Philia love or the love we have for friends and family; Storge Love..love that a parent has for a child and Agape Love...The Love we have for God and the Love that God gives to share with others.

Well that's a definition of Love according to Aristotle and adopted by pseudo Aristotelian theologies anyway.

Women loving those they don't know (romantically) are entrapped by Eros Love.

No sympathy for them.8(

Reading down..I think that probably that definition echos Kates to some extent.
