Your Favourite Fruit!

I'm gonna sound really weird here, but I've never actually eaten a piece of fruit. I have Asperger's and can't tolerate certain textures...which sadly includes fruit and most vegetables.

If I were to try fruit, I'd probably go for a berry of some sort. I've often wondered what important nutrients I'm missing out on having not eaten fruits or veggies for 26 years, but there doesn't seem to be much I can do about my aversion to them.

In other news, that show "Freaky Eaters" makes me feel a lot better about my issues :)

you have never eaten fruit!!!
how about fruit juice, that might be a good substitute at getting some of the essential nutrients nd vitamins.
fruit juice tastes pretty darn good and doesnt have any funky textures.:D

But there are so many different fruits with such a variety of textures Lady Codone :O Tell us what textures/tastes you can tolerate and I'll bet there's a fruit out there somewhere that you might suit you? I'm sure you can cook/prepare most fruit into quite a range of textures too.

Aww, thanks for the advice peeps! The general "grassy" plant texture that fruits and veggies have is what gets me. I feel like a grazing cow when I eat things like salad, which I've only started eating in the past 3 years.

As for fruit juice, I dig it as long as it's not pulpy. Cranberry and OJ are my faves...anything tart I love. :)

Ha. this made me remember an old saturday arvo movie (u know the ones) where this guy is captured by Arab tribesmen and when he's taken to the chiefs tent the chief, after looking this guy up and down in a lascivious way says "My friend, do you prefer the banana or the fig" (you need to pic a fig cut in half). Always makes me laugh anyway : )

It's Passionfruit for me. The name alone's enuf to make me want it!!!!

I'm all about papayas atm. Mangoes (mangos?) of course are a favourite & bananas are a perennial staple. Not quite as keen on grapefruit as I once was, they have a bitter aftertaste that I've just started to notice.

Tropical/sub-tropical fruit > temperate zone fruit big time

Mangos fresh off the tree or dried Philippine mangos. The dried ones have sugar, so they might negate some of the healthiness of eating fruit, but they are sooo good, especially the green ones because I love sweet and sour combos.
Bananas, cold out of the fridge.
Nice crunchy pears.
Strawberries, though its hard to find perfectly sweet ones; I often find them a bit too tart, so I wind up dusting them with some Splenda or dipping them in honey.
I like Papayas, but only unripe and eaten in salad, so even though they're fruit, I sort of use them as a type of vegetable.
Lichees
Grapes
Honrable mention to peaches, plums and nectarines.

I love all fruits... My favourites would probably be:

- Kiwi (my mom is severely allergic, so I didn't really get to eat this much for the first 18 years of my life)
- Mango
- Granadilla
- Orange
- Tomato
- Litchi
- Apricot (dried is the best ever!)

EDIT: And obviously all berries!

I posted really ripe pears already, I don't know how I forgot about plums.

so do you guys call tomatos a fruit or a veg?? serious question??
Culinarily tomatoes are a vegetable. Botanically they are a berry and so a fruit. I guess it is in some way a relative of peppers and potatoes, some people exclude those three from their diets to possibly help with some things because they have some alkaloids that maybe are problems for some people.

omg i could never pick favorites...

kiwis, oranges, grapefruits, grapes (with seeds, thank you very much), black berries, starfruit, raspberries, cranberries, and cherries, and tomatoes are amongst my favorite acid fruits

dates, figs, prunes are my favorite sugar fruits (with raw honey, omfg...)

bananas are my most frequent single serve fruit, usually before some hard training sessions, though they dont digest well with too many other foods so i eat them alone and in bunches of like 4-6

apples (roma + granny smith!), pears, plums, and blueberries are the most common sub-acid fruits in my diet

watermelon, papaya, and cantaloupe are my most frequently consumed melon fruits.

i like bananas.
