another one by Emerson that I like: "To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment."

My fav. fav. fav. quote of all time...
and what a great day to read it again!

Words affect me..
and those words do wonders..for me at least!

I believe that man will not merely endure: he will prevail. He is immortal, not because he alone among creatures has an inexhaustible voice, but because he has a soul, a spirit capable of compassion and sacrifice and endurance. The poet's, the writer's, duty is to write about these things. It is his privilege to help man endure by lifting his heart, by reminding him of the courage and honor and hope and pride and compassion and pity and sacrifice which have been the glory of his past. The poet's voice need not merely be the record of man, it can be one of the props, the pillars to help him endure and prevail.

-William Faulkner - Stockholm, 1950

"But I want something good to die for
To make it beautiful to live.
I want a new mistake, lose is more than hesitate."

- Queens Of The Stone Age, "Go With The Flow"

“The sadness of the world has different ways of getting to people, but it seems to succeed almost every time.”

Not to be cocky but i made this one up myself today while helping somebody in another thread.

Stay strong, carry on, face your problems head on.
Kinda catchy and yet very valuable in drug recovery and stages of depression.
although never said outloud to myself i went through recovery with this attitude.

"Don't limit a child to your own learning, for he was born in another time." Rabbinical saying

Larkin put it better: "Your parents fuck you up."

Not cocky at all! Facing your problems head on instead of running from them is so powerful. I also like the saying, "Calm down and carry on." Sometimes we work ourselves into a frenzy of worry that makes facing problems impossible. Learning how to calm down makes carrying on so much easier.<3

Here is one that someone just passed on to me from something my son wrote:

"Don't look forward or back, but around. See everything you can. Don't miss. Love."

Xtc_fiend and herbavore: variants of that saying were made into a meme by the British government at the beginning of WWII in the event the British were to be invaded. I think the message would be that no matter how much shit is flying at a person, they should go about their business as usual. I'm not sure what I think of that idea myself. It is impossible for me to make life look normal when I see so many things happening that aren't in my average day. I do it anyways.

My quote for today which another BLer sent me at (another) particularly difficult time is:

When you're going through hell, keep going. ~Winston Churchill

Let's keep going. :)

"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place, and I don't care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!"

- Rocky Balboa
