Yes you see glasses, but why?

pixels and interlocking pieces of a pattern ....like an ecsher picture is what acid and mushrooms seem to deliver.

e seems to make things more bright and plastic looking imho. although i have seen fog rolling in that wasnt there in a living room on e. ...and a ceiling that completely vanished on acid.
 
I don't have any ideas. But I got all freaked out when my friend suddenly had glasses and his face was slightly morphing at the same time, so he looked like a completely different person. It left me very confused indeed.
 
One night, i did see a girl wearing aviators. After asking her why she was wearing aviators at 3 am, she replied " I'm not?"


They then dissappeared. 8o
 
I'm somewhat amused that the glasses phenomenon is so common.
I've only hallucinated once from MDMA, and it was because I had an unusually large dose (foolish, I know, but you live you learn, right?) The first inkling I had that something was wrong was when I saw a tiny toy helicopter in my back yard, and commented on it, and everyone else looked up for the 'real' helicopter. I saw glasses on several people, people 'flipping' their retainers in and out (none of my friends had braces, so this was truly bizarre) and tribal/writing tattoos on people's skin. What was funny in retrospect was realizing that all three of these hallucinations have been described by tons and tons of people... hivemind much?
I do wish there was some sort of plausible explanation for this. I'm wondering if ecstasy only triggers very specific parts of the brain, causing similarity in experiences. There seems to be much less variety in hallucinations from MDMA than hallucinations from LSD (from what I've heard, anyway.)
 
Just a bump with the current discussion regards glasses and other common hallucinations.


I consider this thread of particular interest and hopefully one day many of our hypothesis will be proven.

Feel free to add your own ideas and reasons.
 
holy fucking shit, thats totally unreal that there is a post about this.

two nights ago me and a few friends were rolling and all of us were thinking we saw glasses on each other....they would move witht he persons head and looked like actual glasses.......that's so fucked up that mdma does that to people.
 
wowowowowowowowowoowowowow WOW! the thing with the rotating chick is so messed up. at first i saw it going clock wise than it went anti clockwise than went back to clockwise.....but i've found out a way on how to actually do it now.
 
Ugh. That rotating woman drives me nuts. I always see it going clockwise. I can NOT see her doing complete rotations counterclockwise. If I look a certain way I can see her rotate back and forth in a half circle away from me, but never a complete revolution counterclockwise.

Yet if I do a screen shot to capture still frames of her not moving, I can look at each still frame shot and see the ambiguity in which way she is facing.
 
I am glad to see this thread still going but I have not been able come up with anything explaining this. I really liked the explanation given by randomlily on the first page the very first time I saw this topic and I think that it is viable.

With everything that is going on in your brain while on E it is like an information traffic jam. your brain is processing so much and that maybe it doesn't have the time to correctly process all the signals it is getting at the particular time so to compensate it fills the gaps with assumptions.

Take one of my roll tricks for example....

Take your shirt off and use a spray bottle to spray a mist of water into the air over you body. When sober you feel water hitting your skin and that makes you feel cold and wet. When rolling it feels like thousands of tiny explosions on your sink and I have even thought that this is what if feels like to sparkle!. But what may be happening is that you brain is too busy to tell cold and wet so it just registers a sensation and makes assumptions about the rest based on what other chemicals are present and receptors are active. When I do this sober, it is not pleasant at all. Its cold and wet and I don't too much like it. But while rolling =D. maybe the brain looks at eh sensation ans then "assumes" based on all other chemicals and active receptors that it is probably a good sensation and records it as such.

Apply this to something visual....Sober you would see a person's eyes in a dimly lit room as an eyebrow with a depression below it maybe with a shinny center on both sides of the face and a darker spot where shadow falls on the bridge of the nose meets the forehead. These darker areas are harder to see and may cause more processing by the brain so that it can understand the signals it is being sent from the eyes. When rolling, being bombarded with everything from the MDMA experience, instead of devoting the time to process what it really is seeing in the low light the brain makes an assumption as to what could be there and accepts it for the time being until a better analysis can be done on the info from the eyes. If it leaves the information unprocessed, you see a zombie with no eyes and half a nose. if it assumes that the dark spots are glasses the its happy little world remains uncompromised.

I like this explanation the best and it seems to fit the scenario pretty well.
 
I've had this also while on high doses of mdma, also things like coloured sequins on people's faces. and everyone who was there that night experienced very similiar, if not the same visuals :) seemed very strange at the time haha
 
when i had this hard dxm roll, glasses was just the beginning, after that blood flew off from my friends eyes. and i supposedly look exactly like "Joker" from Batman with the tongue all that. How fucked up is that ?
 
One week ago I would have said it has something to do with contrasts being stronger while on MDXX. As people have this eyebrow bone (for lack of the exact term) that sticks out above the eye area, and as lights in clubs often come from right above, the ceiling, the eyes find themselves in a shady area. With higher contrasts maybe the fact that eyes comes out as nearly black can be interpretated as wearing sunglasses. You look up and that guy is wearing sunglasses. You look down and up again, and they're gone. But then I notice that the contrast is still striking, the eye area remains really dark.

Well that was last week. On the 27th I rolled like crazy on MDA with a lot of OEV and CEV, including but not limited to sunglasses. And then it went a steps beyond. At one moment, I raised my eyes, and all the guys around me had cow-boy hats on. I looked down for one sec, looked up again and the hats were gone. And then looked down again and up again, and the cowboy hats were back. Weird as f*ck. Oh my, did I love it !!!!!!!!

Its worthwhile to consider that hallucinations occur in all known cultures - and most importantly - they are not always negatively assesed. That there is a human capacity to hallucinate is undeniable, but once this occurs how the person interprtes what has come out of the experience - is up for grabs - as is the way the social world around them will deal with it, i.e., diagnose you as 'mentally ill' - being spoken to by God - communing with the spirit world - being spoken to by ancestors - seeing bugs in the lighs at a rave etc. What's important to bear in mind is the context of the person in an environment. Altough many of the psychoanalysts would see a common store house of culturally specific representations that are driven out of the psyche under certain conditions: religious experiences, altered states, sickenss - we should alawys approach the hallucination in each speccic instance and see to generlise from there. Its not that the brain is irrelevant here, its rather that in this view, the psyche is not to be equated with the brain - for the psychic makeup of the human species diffres cross-culturally, e.g. the hallucinations of Australian Aboriginies and middle-class citizens of Austrlia may both contain incestous desires, but may take ver different forms.

I think this is a facinating discussion - why glasses? Do the faces ever warp into angelic forms, or only demons? There is so much in this!

Its worthwhile to consider that hallucinations occur in all known cultures - and most importantly - they are not always negatively assesed. That there is a human capacity to hallucinate is undeniable, but once this occurs how the person interprtes what has come out of the experience - is up for grabs - as is the way the social world around them will deal with it, i.e., diagnose you as 'mentally ill' - being spoken to by God - communing with the spirit world - being spoken to by ancestors - seeing bugs in the lighs at a rave etc. What's important to bear in mind is the context of the person in an environment. I've hallucinated glasses I just thought I had amphetamine psychosis you know Because my chair also became an old woman I was talking to my mom who I later discovered wasn't even there. Sleep depirivation+Food deprivation+Ecstasy=Amphetamine psychosis.
But it's usually caused by an increase in dopamines or serotonin
 
I've never seen the glasses, but I have seen tribal tattoos on people (only when they are dancing though?).

I feel that it is due to the mind making connections subconsciously, and trying to make sense of things while it tries to process so much information at once.

Would like to add: I find it incredibly interesting in that many of these visuals are common, and often shared among others as people are made aware of them. The mind is a crazy thing. O_o
 
Ive only ever had the trails from light shows but that's cuz they stick around.
I mean, Ive seen colors but I suspect that that was mda... Not MDMA.
