I'm not sure of the protocol for this, so I'll say "feel free to delete this if it doesn't meet guidelines and stuff".
Now, the disclaimer done, I shall proceed.
I am curious as to who, if anyone is interested in writing (I'm loathe to call it 'more seriously'), so I'll say 'with the intent of getting published'?
I'm about 30,000 words into a novel at the moment which I really want to get published at some stage, and have not (for reasonably obvious reasons of copyright and publication issues) posted any of it here.
The novel is about the Vietnam War and is a rather nasty look at the more cynical aspects of it, the way it was largely fought (on the American/Australian/Korean side) by people who had no interest in it, and were merely staying alive in an increasingly nonsensical media obsessed situation, where tactics and warfare took a backseat to public relations, and so on. The short story that this idea emerged from I originally posted in this forum, though I think its been deleted as a result of forum pruning. <- Incorrect. Its here & thanks to Angelight for pointing out how to find it to my mildly retarded self. :)

I'm curious though, are any other people writing beyond what they post here, or are people intending to get works they have posted here? If they are under the first instance, what is the topic you're working on?
So what are your plans for writing 'Beyond Bluelight' if any? :)

plaz- i think this is a good topic even, and i'm sure you'll get some of a response.
If your piece from the novel was pruned, it was not deleted and you should still be able to find it in the Words archive. We have archived stuff since 1999...so it should deff be in there somewhere. I hope you find it :)

I've thought about writing as my life's work. Right now, I'm a urban/experimental writer for Kludge Sound Magazine (http://ekmag.com), and slowly I'm trying to build my portfolio, so I can have something worthwhile to send out to other magazines.
But I've also thought about short stories, screenplays, and novels. I have a couple of books in me, I know that for sure.

I'm currently co-authoring a fantasy novel at the moment. Not to be confused with DnD or Dragonlance ;)
I'm also considering putting together a collection of short stories for the masses. Inspired by Stephen Donaldson's 'Reeve the Just' (thumbs up and highly recommended to fantasy goers)
writing for Rolling Stone Magazine when Dr. Hunter S. Thompson was editor?...... priceless

I really wish you could post what you've written, Plaz, so other people could see it. ah well....
I don't delude myself about having any real talent and I wouldn't dare dream of tackling a project as big as a novel.
Good luck with your writing. :)

i've had a few poems published in various compilatons, and one recorded in spoken word on some compilation....
not that i've seen any money from it... mostly contest stuff... couple on the internet, couple through school, and a couple though various things in my town..

Damn. :)
Its good to see you're not alone.
Please please keep them coming.
And Queen Beat. I wish I could post some of it, though actually I think it might be a little TOO nasty for some.

last semester i wrote an article for the student-run, university weekly newspaper. they published it and i must say that its a great feeling to see your own name in print. that sort of got me on a roll and i wrote another one which they printed as well since then, but lately i have been too involved in exam revision to write another. the first article was about my opinion of university life. id post it here but i think its too big??
so hopefully next term i'll get back to writing for them and perhaps one day get around to putting all my stuff on a website =)
but i think thats as big as i'll go

^^^He really does. ;)
I was published in poetry compilations when I was younger. After meeting Maya Angelou and her saying that I had talent, I never had the guts to publish again! I'll write a book one day, I hope, and I may even get it down on paper in the process. But I'm not ready to start writing, the story hasn't played itself out yet.

i've only posted my writings here and on poetry.com. I'd like to submit to publictions just to kinda see what type of response i'd get,but i don't know where to start or have the guts.

I dabble in the written word when I have the fancy, and am in the process of writing a series of short stories/episodes based on the surreal slant that life seems to take when you're either on drugs, coming off drugs or chasing after drugs.
Basically, I don't really aim to be published, just want my friends to smile in recognition of the quasi-real situations that happen to the characters.
