the portfolio was a place for people to upload their own artwork. the portfolio is, essentially, made obsolete by the gallery.

as i recall, v&pa was suffering from a drop in traffic and a decision was made by the then-administration to narrow the focus of the forum in an attempt to breathe some life into it. at the time there was a fair bit of discussion on both sides of the debate. v&pa became f&t in november 2003.

Thanks for merging the topics, felix. Seriously though, bluelighters, let's put all the "I'd post in it" enthusiasm to action and get those threads and posts happening in here and perhaps before you know it we can call a new forum home. Vaminos! :)
 
I think that's been the biggest issue. We have been guilty of saying we'd contribute to and post in an arts forum, but haven't done it here. I've been guilty of this myself.

If an arts forum is desired all of these votes are meaningless without posts.
 
i participate in the photo contest cause i love taking pics. i take a shit ton of them but i dont want to just make a thread and spam it full of crap. i dont do the gallery cause, well honestly, pics must be approved and i dont really know if anyone will look in there :\
if i had any other artistic talent (not counting music [which im not really good at anyways]) id contribute more.
 
I voted "I support an Arts forum and would post in it" but now that I have spent more time here I think SO does a great job by itself and by having it all grouped together I think it does help with the traffic.
 
i reckon Arts should be combined with words. That place gets no traffic as is.
 
I would love to see an art forum here. We have poetry and music, why not devote a forum to the visual aspects of art as well? We could help each other out with tips and tricks, constructive critiscism, we can show off our stuff, have battles, discuss mediums, etc etc.


I think it's a great idea.
 
So, this thread was started over a year ago...

Are we any closer now to having a decision on whether or not there will be an art forum?

None. There weren't a whole lot sports threads around until the sports forum came along either. Or maybe I just didn't pay much attention to them :|
i guess you're right, there really isn't much of a need for it.
