Would you like to have a BL Art Forum?

Coming from the standpoint as a constantly active graphic designer of varying projects. Soon to be engaging in High-Definition Video Production of drug-related video (would apply perfectly for this site and as a way of showing the real drug culture not YouTube low-definition bullshit emo kids playing with daddy's camera) and also to show music and other stuff I may be getting into for those videos (working on soundtracks, etc).

I'd be posting multiple times daily in the art forum offering criticism, comments, posting my own work, and if possible maybe starting a "Bluelight Drug Years" video set with people contributing whatever quality footage. I'm able to upscale video to 720p and 1080p resolution from 480i (standard video format in most camcorders / digital cameras). There'd be an easy way of blurring faces, and hiding identities, keeping peoples voices distorted or flushed out by a soundtrack. I think it would be really cool to have something like that. I mean, VH1's Rock Doc's showed us all a generalized view, why not look at our view.

We'd be able to bring the photo and imaging weekly contests from 'Second Opinion' to this specialized forum. There's a lot of possibilities.

** For the video production, I wouldn't be starting on anything until September but will be collecting whatever footage until then. Going to produce a set of Blu-Ray disks to keep the quality of the set if people wanted their own copies (they'd have to merely pay for the shipping / media cost or supply their own) and I'd be able to do DVD's the same way.

Anyways, I'm just spitting off brainstorming, I'm out of my mind from whatever level of sleep deprivation I got, I don't even know, might be the huge amount of Claritin I took yesterday to treat allergies to cats, eitherway, thats my view. I voted yes and I'd be happy to post actively. Even moderator *hint hint* :D

Adding an Art Forum?

I'm sure you guys have better things to do than add yet another forum but it really seems like there is a demand for a visual art forum. SO is almost overflowing with art contests and other art discussion.

This thread & poll reveals there is a fair amount of desire for the forum.

We got music, we got film, we got writing.. so how bout a forum on 'art' too ;)

i kinda thought there would be a thread here in support on it but i searched for "art" and "art forum" and didn't find one

you might be talking about the thread I linked to however... :)

I'd still love to have an arts forum and would most definitely contribute to keeping it alive. That said, I do understand the other side of the issue as well, and since the conversations in the other thread (the one you linked) I feel a lot more comfortable posting anything art related in SO.

Yeah SO is definitely art friendly.. to the point where it's one of the dominant subjects. :)

I'm not saying there's a strong need as much as much as there is enough traffic to warrant it, and it would make sense overall to have an art forum in the section which includes art in the name ;) especially with all the contest threads it would tidy up SO a bit too :)

i think that's a wicked idea... gave up on art years ago but it'd be nice to see some fresh stuff that's less likely to be pretentious and stuck up.

kudos to that plan

my 2 pesetas:

We've had a small surge in arts related threads over the past week or so (graf, space art, etc.), but beyond that we still only have the same four contest related threads in rotation. Four threads do not a forum make. As always, my goal is to eventually see the (re)birth of an arts sub-forum. Presently, however, the traffic does not warrant that new highway just yet, IMHO. If we could repeat the awesome action of this past week on a consistent basis though, I'd be front row centre with the "Arts Forum or Bust!" banner high above my head.

:) i guess i just got carried away cause theres like 11 threads on the front page (counting the various contest threads individually) =D

That's where I'd start to evaluate - if the art was stripped out, how much of a forum would be left? How much of a forum would be created? No answers from me at this point, only questions to make the best decision.

Let's keep those threads coming, please! We're going to make this happen some day soon, without question. When the arts traffic and, more importantly, content is consistent, as I mentioned already, I'll be the first at the admins' door to plead our case for a dedicated forum.

can't an existing subforum in the A&E section be expanded to accomodate visual arts? there's a close affiliation... to illustrate my logic, here is flowcharts:

camera > photograph > picture > moving film > motion pictures > film & television

or maybe there's a bias against such content in A&E since a picture is worth a thousand Words? kidding :p

It seems like this is even an issue for those that couldn't care less about having an art forum because they don't like the threads 'littering' SO. :D

SO mods, do the contest threads bother you, honestly?

The forum used to be "Visual and Performing Arts" and it was decided (err, dictated) that the art portion of the forum be removed in favor of the budding Film and Television discussion.
