My only concern would be that we would actually be able to start more specific threads without deletion, if so - time to step up.
what makes you think you can't do this already in second opinion?

...

I personally would love to see more weekly contests (or something along those lines) up and running.

I bolded the part he meant ;) I also quoted the last part, because I also think a lot of that could be brought up - but kept to a manageable level (no need for 20 contests a week, they'd all flounder with only 2-3 participants rather than 20 participants in 2-3 contests, IMO).

Both of these issues are at the discretion of the mods for the forum, and their admin. /me bows to chrissie

i understood the point. my point was that the question is moot - if there was demand for such a forum, we'd already know the answer.

"i would have started a bunch of art threads but i didn't know if they would be deleted, merged or locked" doesn't make any sense to me and, again, doesn't seem like much of a case for starting a new forum.

My only point in saying that was that there are broad discussion threads now, whereas if there were a forum I think there would be more focused discussion, I could be wrong. Nothing more, not saying that warrants the creation of another forum. I agree with what's been said about having the demand first.

so it's been just under a week since this discussion faded out and, as far as i can tell, there's been only one new art-oriented thread started in second opinion...

if each of the 31 people who voted for a new forum had bothered to start just one thread each, i might think there was something to the poll but, as it stands, to me it's just meaningless...

:\

thoughts?

"i want to post my artwork but there is not one place on bluelight for it to be taken seriously."

"i'd like to discuss the works of salvador dali but i'm afraid my thread will get lost in the mix that is second opinion."

etc i'd imagine.

disappointment

I started one (the bio-art one) and lacey started one, so there were two. I was expecting those that seemed all 'gung-ho' about it to do the same; like you said, had each person started one thread . . . :\

im doing my bestest!!!=D even tho im kinda lax about the deadlines.8(

since there are already (nice and clogged up) threads devoted to all the different kinds of art one could produce, creating a new art thread is kind of a challenge... i mean, what more could one add?

as i believe ive said before, the arts forum should, imo, be similar to words--in as much as you could post a new thread devoted to a single peice if you so desired, and it would not be closed. threads like that arent really appropriate in SO, and i LOATHE the gallery here...

i'm a fan of an art forum. i'd like to see the work of other talented bluelighters, or engage in discussions of our favorite professional artists from history.

i'd like to see a dedicated forum just for art. even if the place stays pretty quiet its a nice option to have. its easy for me to say because i wouldnt be modding or doing any administration for it. i guess whats being said is that the work to facilitate it would outweigh its usefulness.. its a hard call to make. i have new pieces at least once a week so i'd spend a lot more time on bluelight if there were a place just for inkheads like me.

Im not an art fan myself so no i dont see much point in it. I don't think it would be that popular either. Its not something you can easily start threads about.

I'm down for this!! I think alot of great artists are dwelling in the shadows here. . Come out of hiding!! <3

Really?

-What do you think about art school?

- What style of art do you like best?

- Where do you think the line between fine art and commercial art is?

- How do you feel about selling art?

- What is "Selling out" when it comes to art?

- is graffiti art?

- Does commercial art have less value than fine art?

- What makes a piece of art classic?

- Is abstract art as meaningful as realistic art?

- Ideas for functional art

- Weekly sketch book - Add one sketch from your book (Updated weekly)

- What is your favorite medium?

- Original artworks you would like to see before you die

- When did you start drawing/painting/etc?

- Is art a inborn talent, or aquired skill?

- Is it more important to depict realism, or the emotion and idea of the art?

- Does passion and emotion in a piece of art make up for poor technical skill?

- What is a gimmick in art, and what is a respectable technique?

- Where is the line between intentional creating outrage with art, and makin a statement?

Care for more?

^I agree. Art is limitless. It doesn't just stop with visual arts either. Maybe you need to educate yourself on art a bit more, SmC, and maybe then you'll understand how much there is to talk about. Whether it interests you or not, it's always good to know things. Apposed to being ignorant about it.
