Well i was never asked about a criminal record in an interview before ever. my address was respectable (presumption of innocence) looked and sounded the part etc.after my brush with the law i got a job in a large american bank.i passed three interviews to get the job.this was the year 2000 though pre 911. I held down other various jobs and never had a prob question of background never came up.

It only applies if you were actually given a sentence over 2 years that you actually had to serve in prison.
Suspended sentences etc don't count.

The only croud that im sure background checked me were ebay and i didnt get that job.but i have had 3 different jobs since year 2000 not american companys no probs.

Not sure what shows up on a CRB check if you only ever had sentences under 2 or 2.5 years.
I can't see why suspended sentences would need to show up.

It's a criminal record check. Anything on your criminal record will show up. It doesn't matter how long you went to jail for, or even if you went to jail. I think you are only talking about whether you have to declare it when asked, you may be correct in that case.

I don't see why you would ever bother to declare it tbh. If they don't do a CRB check (btw, don't know how this works elsewhere but in Scotland you would know if this was being done, you need to sign shit to let them do it) then don't tell them & they'll never find out.

If they do then they'll find out about everything & be unlikely to give you the job anyway (they don't do CRB checks for a laugh, I wouldn't have got any of my last few jobs if I had a proper record).

Well pont it doesnt excuse what they did but i did get payback in a way right or wrong. In 2001 i fleesed my old mans saving account of €2000 to pay for my coke habit. My parents paid back a €5000 loan of mine to get creditors off my back. Plus letting me live back at home till 2005.
I know they feel guilty as fuck about it.holding grudge for 13 years would be daft after them bailing me out of trouble time after time kinda counterproductive

Apply for a enhanced CRB. Perfectly legal, costs about £38.

An enhanced CRB will show everything, including cautions.

That charge will 100% show on an enhanced CRB. There's no point wasting your money, it will definitely be on it.

Most employers that check will only do a basic CRB check though. I think it's only if you're going to be working with kids etc that they'll do an enhanced one.

You're fucked with regards to America. Unless you lie on the visa waiver (ie, state that you have never been charged with anything ever) & hope they don't check. If they do check, they will find out.

Fuck im a bit gutted about the america thing its thats the case.i was in new york in 1998 loved it got some nice designer clothes nearly half the irish price.would like to have the option to go back.so what happens if i lie on the form and try anyway.assuming i get to jfk airport etc whats happens if i get busted there? Charged with making false claims and sent to rikers or sent home?
