Calls, texts & emails are still allowed to make a noise though

Everything should be opt-in rather than opt-out. As in "I opt not to log into FB for almost a year".

I'm an intermittent fb'er but taking it off my phone was such a good move

I keep messenger on my phone as it's good for instant comms, though notifications stay OFF (and no space for these snapchat whatsapp things on phone) but when I occasionally log in to fb, it freaks me out quickly & I run away

It's all okay every so often, but I agree that Notifications are a pain. Social media is fairly sickening. :D

I genuinely had a stalker on fb. Guy from Egypt had to call police he flew here to SA and tried to find me
Was terrifying

That sounds rather unnerving. I had an ex follow me around for a couple months, was kind of odd.

She wasn't really dangerous, it was just kind of an inconvenience, I had done her a favor by leaving.
