First of all I do not believe psychoactive compounds such as LSD, psilocybin, mescaline etc causes long term psychosis associated with schizophrenia or other thought disorder mental illnesses.
Instead, I believe psychedelic substances may be the solution for treating and possibly curing brain disorders as these. Unfortunately, due to the nature of psychosis associated with schizophrenia research in this area is virtually nonexistent due to a lack of information regarding psychosis.
Psychosis is not necessarily a bad thing unlike symptoms associated with schizophrenia that are misconstrued to include all types of psychosis.

Psychosis needs further research to understand the difference between schizophrenia symptoms and psychosis associated with psychedelic substances. Furthermore included in psychedelic research should allow testing for people with schizophrenia and a history of psychosis associated with thought disorders.

I've had psychosis from taking speed and it's absolutely nothing like a psychedelic experience. No similarity at all. None of the euphoria, laughter, emotional catharsis.

I have a friend with schizophrenia but I've never suggested taking psychedelics to him - I think it would be unpleasant getting psychedelic effects on top of schizophrenia. That's just my guess.

I believe there is a misconception about psychedelics that originated from government propaganda propitiated from 1970s war on drugs. Society must get beyond those lies before psychedelics is an accepted form of recreation and treatment

Psychedelic research today is restricted to people not predisposed to psychosis. I think this is a misrepresentation of facts based on propaganda. To my knowledge LSD research on people diagnosed with schizophrenia did not worsen symptoms instead overall symptoms improved. However, research ended as the result of prejudice and governmental agenda.
Don’t get me wrong I appreciate US citizenship however, legislature based on drug prohibition backed by lies and propaganda that set medical research back fifty years does not go well with me.

certain mental effects are somewhat understood
such as
anesthetic effects
pain relief
intoxication
narcosis
aggravated emotion
sad emotion
fearful emotion
enraptured emotion
trance
REM dreaming
stimulation
sedation

emotions and psychedelics are less understood than the others in the list but all of these relate to global states that the mind can be pushed into for a period of time.
the states of mind do not necessarily go with the particulars of the mental contents, or what people are thinking at the time they are in these states.

The relationship between psychedelics and schizophrenia has a long history and is fraught with complexity. Prior to the ban on psychedelic research with the U.S. Controlled Substances Act in 1970, these substances were being used on a variety of patients including those with chronic schizophrenia.
------------------------------------------------------------
… it is appropriate to widen the current range of indications for which psychedelics can be beneficial and review historical documents for both lessons learned and hidden gems.
------------------------------------------------------------
Psychedelics are generally treated as risk factors in the mainstream research literature with the potential to cause destabilization or exacerbations of schizophrenia. It is therefore interesting to note that in spite of this near unanimity, there appears to be examples in both historical literature and current (mostly survey) research where psychedelics have been reported to have a beneficial impact on those with this mental health diagnosis. While, currently, research is very limited, Turkia (Turkia & December, 2022) reported a case study where a teenager who was diagnosed with an acute schizophrenia-like psychotic disorder successfully self-treated with LSD and DMT.

Syd Barrett; it helped his schizophrenia take hold quickly. He was probably predisposed to it, but who knows? He is gone. Is Pink Floyd around still? They had 3 different frontmen, but Rogers Waters was the best.

Seems like an experience like this would turn anyone into a schizophrenic.

"…I began taking in panicked deep breaths, thinking that none of the oxygen was entering my system, then noticed a pain in my chest, a giant mantis like being had its claws in my chest! It proceeded to tear open my chest and stomach removing all my organs and insides, I was about to go into shock when I saw a bright green light flash over my shoulder, it nearly hit me, it then became a beautiful fractal-geometric object…"

"It was pure terror,"

I don't know, perhaps in my lifetime there will always be a fear of the unknown. It's a shame the bad rap psychedelics got in the 1970s that ultimately stopped research even though prospects were favorable in treating mental health symptoms.

There are lawyers who represent the psychedelic community should someone find themselves in a situation such as this.

NYS Senate Bill 2025-S5303 allows the growth and cultivation, and regulated use of psilocybin for treatment of health conditions, provides for the certification of support service providers and licensure of cultivators.

Yeah but schizophrenia comes on in your early twenties anyway. I can't see how a few hours on a drug can give you a life-long problem - especially when the acid is completely out of your system in a few hours. It just doesn't make any medical sense.

Schizophrenia rates have been the same for 100 years - if acid had any effect you would expect a bit spike in the 60s when acid came into widespread use.

It was MDA that prompted longterm psychosis in my case. However, as of lately psilocybin restored brain cell electricity and repaired serotonin and dopamine communication.
Sadly, research in this area is lacking under the assumption that all psychosis are the same way linked to schizophrenia symptoms.

How psychedelic is MDA for you? I asked someone on reddit and he said it's not very psychedelic. I quoted him in a recent post about it:

Some insight I've gathered about this:

but if i’m not mistaken, shulgin and Nichols tried N methylation on a variety of amphetamines/phenethylamines. alkylation of the amine reduced activity in almost every compound except MDMA(gives affinity to D1 as opposed to 5-HT2A). This is why MDA is more “psychedelic” than MDMA.

[still] not VERY psychedelic in my experience, or in a much different and peaceful way than LSD and consorts.

Is it similar to psychedelic phenethylamines?

moreso but theres really zero discomfort or anxiety, the best word for it the impression that lasted with me is pastel rainbows. I also saw the face of a friend in a rave divide in tons of tiny cartoonish flowers once on a pill that allegedly was mda based and had to get away because I was trying to talk at the same time and it got overwhelming; but that was a mix Im pretty sure. On pure mda I never really hallucinated just frainbow soft flashes and softer colors. The entactogen edfect was the MAIN thing if we class that as hallucination then oh boy yeah. YOn smowballs you lightly touched your arm and you moaned like a caveman.

How do you think it prompted the psychosis? Once the drug has worn off how does it keep causing psychosis? Was it such a catastrophic few hours your brain just collapsed?

I don’t know, perhaps irreparably damage already occurred as a result of use? If damage was done to my brain then whether or not MDA was present would make no difference.

the symptoms of psychosis in action speech or thought are all really behaviors that can be detected and identified one way or another.
behaviors when repeated become habits, so if a habit is established that can be identified as psychotic, as many stoned behaviors that are not docile may be identified, then you can say the person has become psychotic, and if they did it after psychedelics you might blame the drug.
but in simple terms,
a person repeats what they feel they need to repeat
so a person repeating psychotic behavior is probably delivering a message about their feelings.
this may not be an easy message to receive and interpret correctly so it gets repeated, and that repetitive behavior gets the person committed.

psychosis /sī-kō′sĭs/

Interesting these are similar symptoms of a good trip. Psychosis in terms of schizophrenia is not a permanent condition although construed as discomfiting. The problem with schizophrenia compared to psychedelic induced psychosis is a psychedelic substance has a predictable half life unlike schizophrenia psychotic symptoms cannot be measured in terms of predictability.

I know I need to take medication that prevents psychosis based on a 3 week absence when I made statement to my wife indicating paranoia and distrust.

No - Richard Wright is dead, and Gilmour and Waters are dead to each other but are still performing separately.
