What pisses me off the most about the current "Labour" government is that I am now worse off financially than I was in the previous tax year, thanks to this ongoing freeze on raising the tax free allowance threshold. Even though my wages increased in line with the minimum wage, I am now taking home less money than I was in the previous tax year!
The freeze on the tax free allowance disproportinately hits the lowest earners the hardest, seeing as it's only 12k or so per year that you can earn before you have to start paying tax, and if you dont earn a huge amount more than that, then you really benefit by every increase in the threshold, and things are going to get worse off every year until the bunch of C U Next Tuesdays change this outrageous sneaky stealth tax policy. I think they think most people wont know, or notice, or pay attention, to what is happening. Well I fucking do for one!
It's already been frozen since Covid I beleive, and probably will be for at least another 2 - 4 years.
Chances are that for the next financial year the new state pension will actually be higher than the frozen tax allowance. Potentially creating the absurd situation where pensioners will have to pay tax on their state pension. But fear not, the precious pensioners wont have to do this, as there will be a special excemption for them! But nothing of the kind for the workers, and the pensioners will only get it because more of them actually bother to vote than any other cohort.
Meanwhile billionaires running their companies in the UK, but wangling their finances via Ireland legally avoid paying the full UK taxes they should by rights be paying.
Issues like this seriously make me despair and fume at the unfairness of it. Nobody seems to be fighting the corner for the low paid workers any more. Bring back some proper socialism for christs sake as we cant carry on like this!
