Will i see a decent government before i die?

But you accept 99.999% of people in 2 million quid houses dont fall into that category right? You could just put a clause in the bill saying if you are receiving pension tax credit you dont have to pay the new tax - that way granny pays nothing.

You HAVE to tax assets not work - the rich buying up massive property portfolios is why nobody can afford a house anymore. There's countless houses in London arnt even occupied. Arabs buy houses as an investment and never even live there.

Everyone on average wages are absolutely skint - do you think they should pay more rather than the millionaire? The government is flat broke. The rich have seized every last drop of wealth in the country - they HAVE to start paying some tax - they are the only people who can afford to.

Taxing assets is the only way to make the rich pay anything - no use taxing income cos their accountants are too clever for that. We're now in the position where the butler pays a higher percentage tax rate than the houseowner.

The ONLY time in british history when average people saw their living standards rise was 1945-79. In an amazing coincidence that was the same time we taxed extreme wealth at 90%.

It's definitely not as high as 99%. But yes, it doesn't apply to all people who live in expensive houses obviously.

The government could just stop people doing that without implementing any new taxes. Mass immigration is also a significant factor re house prices.

I have never made above median wage and I'm fairly comfortable. For full transparency I live in the North East and have no children so I'm likely in a better situation than most. The economy is fucked but don't overegg the pudding. The millionaires are already paying far more tax than people on 20-30k. The government could also piss less money against the wall.

This is true. The government should simplify tax law so it's pretty much impossible for accountants to do any tax fuckery. Still, I very much doubt that butlers are paying more tax than houseowners, if the houseowners are still working.

I'd guess that no longer being in a brutal world war was something to do with the improvement in living standards. From what I remember barely anyone made enough money to pay the 90% rate in any case.
 
Well in the seventies a guy on average wages could buy a semi-detached house in his twenties - houses were only 4 times average salary, now its 9 times. So the buying power of wages has halved in just 40 years.

Millionaires dont pay as much income tax as a percentage of their income as I do. Yes, they pay a lot of the total but thats cos they are the only ones with any money. Its like comparing me with fifty kids who get 50 pence a week pocket money if I pay 2% tax and they pay 40% I would still pay more of the total.

But I dont think the rich will ever pay anything - I think we're going back to the 18th century - a few at the top and everyone else trying to stay out the workhouse. Capitalism is dying and being replaced by Technofeudalism. Sam Altman making us all beg for a universal basic income.
 
Dunno about you Gulping but I'm working 5 days a week and can barely afford enough drugs never mind food!
 
@F.U.B.A.R. - Run for government. I, for one, will vote for anyone who ends these stupid drugs laws that kill people.

Adults should have the right to consume whatever they want to as long as they are provided with the information on which to base an informed choice.

I did a back-of-a-fag packet calculation and worked out that pure diamorphine (heroin) should cost no more than £20/g.

Of course, just as anyone under the influence of alcohol should not drive or operate heavy machinery, people under the influence of any psychoacive drug should likewise abide by rational safety laws. Your right to take a compound should not impinge on my right not to get run over by someone out of their mind on seconal (as an example).

No - until recently McFarlan-Smith provided ALL of the diamorphine used by the NHS. In the last couple of years two competitors have appeared but it's the strict legal control that surrounds the (quite small scale) production of diamorphine which is at least partly to blame for the cost.

Put simply, the laboratory (not an industrial unit) in which McFarlan-Smith chemists make diamorphine is more secure than the average catagory B prison. I mean multiple razor-wire fences, CCTV, three physical check-points that staff have to go through and so on.

I don't know but I would be surprised if all staff have to undergo enhanced disclosure and likely other background checks.

As far as I can tell they operate on a JIT basis so they never have a large quantity of morphine or diamorphine in the building. After all, think what a tempting target it would be for armed robbers.
