will i get addictive to heroin if i try it?

theWorldWithin said:
dude, if you can't even controll dropping E which has noticably horrendouse side effects then how are you going to controll something that makes you feel just as good, is cheaper, and has less bad side effects?

I am not trying to be offensive, but you are that kid with the obviously addictive personality who is in total denial of it.

i no i am an addict... i just like to think im not, i get listed under "pill head" & "stoner" were i live.

and there is reasons why i dropped so much and wasted so much money... life was just fucking up... i don't want to give the reasons.... but it was everything in my life... just problems.

So everyone who's ever iv'ed heroin was suicidally insane? Even with the unknown cuts, most deaths are caused by taking other substances on top of heroin or from od'ing. It's easy to avoid that by not mixing substances and properly dosing(which is fairly easy even with street dope). You're making it sound like every time someone uses they're playing russian roulette, which is not accurate.

I meant tar heroin. It's very common, out West in the US where that's all there is, for junkies to contract wound botulism or gangrene from that stuff. All one would have to do is miss the vein, huh?

IV'ing heroin, or anything, is merely very unwise. I am sorry to sound judgemental, but for myself, it is one of the three things that I've resolved never to do.

(The other two are 2) make whoopee with another dude; and 3) get a piercing.)

I tried H a few times. I smoked it. Seemed nice. Seemed like I could get to like it. Seemed like a good place to stop. I've got enough problems with my addiction to Budweiser.

Physical addiction is guaranteed if you use it regularly over the course of [possibly] 3 days to 7 days.

I dont believe that at all.

It took me a lot longer than that to get addicted to the two opiates (oxycodone and heroin) that ive been addicted to.

^
Of course improper iv techniques and missed shots have drawbacks, but I wasn't considering them. I was talking about the average heroin shot. Complications do happen, but they're much more rare than people make them out to be.

As for tar causing more complications due to missed shots, yeah it's a common thing you hear due to the fact that it contains organic material. But I'd like to see a study that actually backs up that claim.

Sorry about the double post, yours came up with my post refresh.

By physical addiction Rachamim means physical dependance. And that will happen with no matter what opiate you use. All you have to do is 1. use very frequently(daily) 2. use for an extended period of time 3. stop abruptly. You will experience withdrawal, which proves physical dependance.

You're confusing it with psychological addiction.

If instead you were talking about heroin as opposed to other opiates and opioids you might be correct [I would definitely go for demerol or dilaudid any day of the week].
Done Demerol a couple times, one of the world's shittiest highs IMO.

lol i shoot tar in my arm every day and my arm hasnt fallen off, or gone numb, or absessed, or anything.. if you miss a shot, it sucks because it hurts like a bitch, and makes a bruise for a few days, but thats it. i can see why so many people are scared about shooting street drugs.. but thousands of people do it every day without dying. not every bag of dope or drop of tar has like glass shards sticking out of it and mexican feces mixed in it.

I liked Demerol, myself, in the day. But, I don't much like any narcotics any more. I hate not being able to take a crap.

lol if benzos are the most addictive substance on the planet and doctors hand them out like candy, why aren't we all addicted then?

benzos are way less reinforcing than virtually all the other major drugs. a lot of bluelighters dont even find them recreational let alone addictive.

i'm addicted to benzos and doctors do hand them out like candy. if you take it medically (ie. not abuse it) you can still get physically dependent on it because of tolerance and having to increase the dose. its extremely common so i don't know why you think benzo's aren't addictive, that is just ignorant.

"1.5 million Xanax addicts are produced (in the U.S.) each year."

- John Steinberg, Medical Director of the Chemical Dependency Program at Greater Baltimore Medical Center.

I second

Benzodiazepine tranquilizers are subtly and severely addictive. I think they might be more addictive than narcotics.

If you don't care for them, naturally they're not. I'm not real attracted to narcotics (I once had a bottle of oxycodone tablets, 100 of em, and I got so sick of them I gave half away) but they hook lots of people.

For me the most addicting opioids are fentanyl, oxycodone, and hydomorphone.

Let's not forget methadone.
Some people can use a few times, then never go back. Some people never come back. Smoking tar, popping or snorting packets can all be extremely addictive.
Your call

FastEddie: I feel the same way about a half drinken bottle of soda from the garbage. In NYC people have the nice habit of uriniating into such things [a nice thing they do is urinating into methadone bottles and then leaving them for desparate addicts to find]. The point though, as I hope we agree, is that people need to educate themselves as much as possible. Once educated they should realise that purification is not too complicated and should be done each and every time.

I agree with you about Tar, plugging is the best mode.

I do not think only Tar presents a risk, all illicit substances do.

Yes, benzos are much more physically addicting than opiates and most opioids but not all]. In addition, the withdrawals are alot worse than those from opaites/opioids, with the possibilty of death. You might feel like you are dying from opaite/opioid w/ds, and even wish to die [sic] but with benzos it just might happen.

Phrozen: Actually FastEddie is not far off the marlk. It is a form of roulette. People have allergic reactions all the time. People have contraindications, etc., etc. To ingest any unkown substance is a risk of the highest degree. Then, when one realises that most if not all illicit substances can be purified the idea becomes even more profound.

Toxic: I would agree that Chicago is an American user's Nirvana. Not only is access easy, byut the variety in product is the best there is. Every form of #4 heroin is available [every point of origin] and this makes Chicago unique among N. American cities. NYC used to have the easiest access as well as a good amount of variety but Adolph Giuliani changed that. I remember exactly when it happened. Almost overnight the "pitchers" [hand to hand dealers on street level who touted their product] stopped touting. What followed was an intense paranoia that holds to this day where an unoknown person will find it almost impossible to obtain product...especially if they are not black or Hispanic.

Of course people in NYC can simply spend 5 to 20 minutes going over the Hudson River to northern New Jersey and find an opposite situation. Cities like Newark and Paterson are like the South Bronx circa 1990.

IForget: Physiologically it is a given. There might be a rare exceptrion, just as there people who literally cannot feel opiates or opioids do to the deficiency of the cyp450 enzymatic pathway. IF you gain a physiological response though, it is a given that you will have a physical addiction within 7 days of regular usage. From your post it seems that you do "feel" opiates and opioids so I tend to think your statement is not accurate. Either you did not use reguarly, lost track of time, or are not being open. IF what you say is true, count yourself very, very lucky and also get a physical examination because soemthing is wrong with your body.

Phrozen is indeed correct in that physical addiction DOES mean physical dependance.

MDP: Preferences are subjective. I will offer that while I enjoy Meperedine [Demerol], my real preference is the Meperidine analog MPPP. Hydromorphone [Dilaudid] is my very close runnerup. As for ease of IV usage, nothing beats Knoll Dilaudids [shake and and no bake].

Absent: Count yourself lucky. Tar does not need to have foreign substances in it to be dangerous. Its latext consistency lends a higher probability of bacterial infections and the mode of synthesis leads to dangerous complications in users [pyridine, etc].

I didnt want to come across as sounding close minded to the fact that what you say could be true, unfortunatley I did, so I apologize for that first. Second, I guess I misunderstood what you were saying to begin with. Now that youve explained it more, I think I get it, but I might still be a little unclear as to what you mean. Are you saying that after seven days of consistent use, there will be physical addiction, even if its just mild? You dont mean full blown addiction, where if you stopped using youd be shitting yourself and wanting to die, or do you?

I think that is where I wasnt understanding what you meant. And to be honest about myself, I guess it was hard to tell wether or not I was addicted after 5 - 7 days of consistent use because a) I do keep track of time horribly and b) I kept using consistently for months after the initial 5 - 7 days so I wouldnt have noticed that addiction till later on.

You're confusing physical addiction[dependance] with psychological addiction. They are two distinct things and do not necessarily occur at the same time.

ive been shooting heroin about once or twice a week for the past 5 months, i might have even skipped a week or two. but i accept that i still don't know that i wont get addicted in the future.
There is this crazy rumor going around that addiction is PROGRESSIVE......

Is it psychological addiction then that rachamim is saying develops after a week, or is it physical addiction? I know psychological addiction shows up a lot quicker than physical addiction does, but I thought he was saying it was physical addiction that shows up in 5 - 7 days. I wont be confused anymore if you can confirm that for me.

i think trying heroin is like popping your cherry, or devirginizing yourself.. you can never go back really. you know how it is, how awesome it is, the instant gratification. i tried heroin for the first time a few months ago and ive been doing it at least every few days since (usually every day).. its easy to slip into that "junky" lifestyle dude especially if your friends are doing it and you have an easy cheap supply.. and in seattle we have a nifty thing called the needle exchange.. you bring in your used hypodermic needles for free new ones, and they give you ties, cookers, sterile water.. different types of needles (ones to muscle with, ones to hit the vein with.. and sterile alcohol pads. so yeah anywyas.. seattle is like the best place for a junky =D =D tar everywhere and a good needle exchange

it's better down here. first of all they give us free needles plus all that other stuff, even pill filters, don't need to exchange old ones. plus we have an injecting gallery where you can shootup without judgement in the safety of cute sexy nurses wielding narcan, and you can have free coffee in the chillout lounge after.

haha...

wow that freaks me out, considering ive been using them lately and experimenting!!

Tried big H it 3 times, got nausea and puking + bad constipation 3 times, pleasure not enough to overcome the nausea. No chance of my getting addicted so far. Will try it again when I'm too old to do stimulants.
