Why shouldn't I get the swine flu vaccine?

I got the shot on Friday and lo and behold, shit all happened.

Not surprising. Complications from the vaccine are very very rare. Unless you got the thimerosal free vaccine, you just raised your risk of Alzheimers disease by a couple points, but I wasnt really expecting the majority of vaccinated individuals to get any more than a local site reaction.

That is why anecdotal evidence from personal experience is not taken as proof of much of anything in science.

lol I cannot believe on a site based around drug use and abuse with the majority of members at (least) one time taking an unknown substance(s) for pleasure that people could be against the flu vaccine, which is a known substance and has had at least some medical research behind it. You can say that you test pills but that can't tell you all the ingredients and god knows what most coke, meth, H, speed, etc are cut with. Even oxy pills - if you didn't buy them yourself from a pharmacy how can you know that they havent been repressed by a clever dealer (I know this is unlikely- but its still possible, and more possible than having a reaction to a flu vaccine). And yeah if you exeriment with RCs well... its already been well said.

If you have the opportunity to have the vaccine and you spend time around other people then you should take it. For their benefit.

Thats assuming every once of us takes pills of X. I personally dont anymore. With my health conditions I just cant afford the risk. Even if I knew for sure what it was I probably still wouldnt take it. Mostly I stick with natural drugs and ones prescribed by my physician.

I think I made it very clear that the risk from the vaccine is very low. I just dont see it as something I am that motivated to get since the long term benefits do not clearly outweigh the long term risks. Yeah, it sucks to get the flu. However, its not the end of the world for most people.

The biggest reason younger people are getting it is because the older generation has cross immunity from the previous swine flu, and also due to an allergic reaction that you can also get from the vaccine.

But having taking x at some point you have subjected yourself to an unknown compound. Do you now think that it was a big mistake to have done so?

Of course there are people on the board who have never taken an illegal (or quasi-legal/RC) substance but given the nature of the board those are the minority.

What if you infected someone who then died? The chance is minimal but is probably slightly higher than risk of the vaccine. (both of these senarios are impossible to calculate at the present time but I know what I'd hedge my bets on given the low incedence of issues with other flu jabs developed over the past 40+ years).

Back in the day I had excellent connections and was 100% sure that what I was getting was a pure quality product. In the early early days I got a few sketchy pills, and while I still enjoyed myself I was definitely taking a risk. I took a much bigger risk when I was train hoping cross country though.

I am not trying to argue that the vaccine is likely to harm you though. Im not trying to use fear tactics to prevent people from getting it if they want it. The flu sucks and not getting the flu is convenient for not missing school or work and not feeling like crap. If you want to get the shot I am not against that. I do object however to people who take the opposite extreme position trying to scare tactics to scare people into getting the flu shot who dont want it, especially when the risk from the vaccine is slightly greater than the risk of the flu after being adjusted for the rate of infection.

The flu shot is necessary for high risk demographics and is optional for people who are not in high risk demographics. Old people are not the only high risk demographics. People who are immune compromised, have asthma or are pregnant are high risk. Pregnant is a double consideration though because the vaccine increases your risk of miscarriage.

A Washington redskins cheerleader around my area developed dystonia after getting the H1N1 vaccine. I personally never get the flu shot and i do not intend to get a brand new vaccine just because of the fear the media is spreading about a flu that kills less people then influenza that has always been around. More people in the USA die from typical influenza each year then have died from H1N1 this year.

Exactly. ++++++

Well.. I've never had a flu shot in my life, and im not doing too bad :D

OMG. And you are not dead yet? This scary new flu is almost* as dangerous as the regular flu. Doesnt that scare you into suddenly needing to get this new untested vaccine?

One mistake this article they made was confusing the rates of GBS with the regular flu vaccine with the rates associated with this new vaccine, which is currently unknown.

You also have to wonder how many people get these symptoms but it is never conclusively linked to the vaccine. The number of people harmed is likely higher than the official tally due to the uncertainty of the cause in many instances.
