Opioids Why opiates are the devil's sidekick. Also, help with Suboxone withdrawals please?!

Clonidine doesn't attach to the opiate receptors. I works via other pathways to diminish WD symptoms. I'm pretty sure it slows down the onslaught of adrenal rush that begins with WD that causes the RLS, sleeplessness, etc etc, but am 100% sure it has no effects on the opiate receptors.

I'm not sure if it actually fills them or just tricks your brain into thinking it does, but it definitely does something with the opiate receptors. I remember reading something about it online... I think it was on here, actually... and yesterday I confirmed this with my old rehab's detox center when I called to ask them about things I could do to ease Sub withdrawals. Clonodine treatment is the main method they use for w/d's, along with the Weisseman (sp?) rapid detox method, so they told me a bit about it. That's mostly how I was able to convince my doctor to prescribe it to me for when I do get off of the Suboxone. Oh I was able to find some articles about it though; are we allowed to post the links for stuff like that on here? They're not drug manufacturer websites or online pharmacies or anything, just regular health websites and articles.

clonidine is an alpha-2 adrenergic agonist and is used to treat high blood pressure. It is not an opiate or related. Normally during withdrawal your blood pressure spikes and that is what causes some of the withdrawal syhmptoms.

1rst day on suboxone from 6 years up to 400 mg a day oxy habit...weened down to 3 roxis ...waited 24 hrs and took 4 mg sub.6 hours ago...OMG these things rock.i feel almost normal except for the pain..planning to stay on them until the sickness subsides hopefully no more than 6 weeks...thanks for posting , now i know to be careful with these things and keep my dosage low so i can put it down when ready...sub people..how long will 4 mg fend off the sick?..

High blood pressure is symptomless with 2 exceptions. Heart attack and stroke. The increase in blood pressure is a result of the WD but not a cause of any of the symptoms.

He plans to prescribe me Motrin, Clonodine, and Valium for the withdrawals.

I really hate doctors sometimes.

You should not be unhappy at all. I just got back from my doc in hopes he would give me some muscle relaxers or more potent sleeping meds or SOMETHING to help cope. But instead he just prescribed me more suboxone. I REALLY hate doctors sometimes.

Is getting percs for wisdom teeth removal common elsewhere in the world?
Im from Toronto and all I or anyone I know has ever gotten from wisdom teeth surgery is T3s and they dont do shit for me.
Wish I couldve gotten percs....

^^ lol. I think users on this forum have already sold or pawned their silver items already :)

^If you look on web MD their is symptoms caused by hbp.

I could find 100 other links that say it is the silent killer with no symptoms as it's been called for 50 years. I've had it for 16 years without a single symptom other than going to the doctor and them measuring it saying it is high. Besides no symptoms consistent with opiate WD are listed on that list on WebMD.

For real. He hates his doctor for Clonidine and VALIUM!? You know what I got from my doc? NOTHIN'!

Rather than hating your doctor you should be kissing his feet.

I was gonna say... lol I am a girl, not a dude. But Wolfman seemed to cover that for me, so anyways.

No, I don't hate doctors sometimes specifically because he said he was going to prescribe me Clonodine and Valium. I said I hate doctors sometimes because I am not ready to be off of Suboxone in the first place. I do believe that the entire point of putting me on it in the first place was to prevent a relapse. But instead of letting me jump off when I feel ready to (which would have been soon), he is forcing me to jump off next month and just give me those drugs. As if Clonodine and Valium are going to make any sort of difference to me when I'm not even 100% ready to get off of Suboxone yet.

Aside from that, I don't even hate my doctor specifically; I kind of hate the whole medical profession in general at this point. Maybe hate is too strong of a word. But I have that attitude because of them overprescribing me hydro in the first place, then swearing to me up and down that Suboxone was the way to go to get off of the hydro, especially because I'm no longer sure whether my addiction was even severe enough to the point where I needed it... and then for lying to me and claiming that Suboxone doesn't have any withdrawals, and then telling me it would only take a few weeks (which turned into a year)... I am just pissed off that I was completely misinformed about Suboxone by people who are supposed to be professionals. Not to mention that, no matter HOW early I call in my prescriptions, they are always a day or two late... sometimes a week... because it takes my doctor or the pharmacy forever to get around to it. This situation could easily be solved by my doctor writing me paper prescriptions, as I have brought up countless times, but still he refuses to do it and will only fill my prescriptions after I call the pharmacy and ask them to fax the approval form or whatever it is to my doctor's office.

Idk. I just had a lot of respect for the medical profession before I ever became addicted to opiates, and after seeing how they operate... and the attitudes they have towards people who become addicted to them, even if it's by accident through surgery or something... I just don't trust them fully anymore. Just the way I feel.

OK 1st off your doctor was right and wrong . You can get off opiates with Suboxone and not go through W/Ds or at least very minor W/Ds. However it has to be a short term 30 days or less is the best . The less the better .

I had a 150 mg a day oxy habit and I started out at 8 mgs a week of Subs then went to 6 mgs then 4 mgs then 2 mgs then 1 mg and then jumped off . Now I didn't feel great but I had none of the W/D symptoms I had with the oxy . No stomache problems , no sleep issues , or RLS. I was able to work and do all the things I needed to do unlike when I was in oxy W/Ds .

Problem is most of thse doctors overperscribe it (no way you shoulda induced at 16 mgs of Sub per day with your hydro intake ) and many keep there patients on is way to long . I've read anything over 3 months greatly increases W/D problems with Suboxone . It was a miracle drug for me .
They also don't want to perscribe benzos with Subs and pass off clonidine which was wothless to me . SO I mixed xanax with my Subs and had no problems . I spaced out the doseages and didn't take more than 2 mgs of xanax a day and I had no ill effects . Apparently some people who were IVing Suboxone and taking large amounts of benzos died awhile back so now many Docs don't want anyone mixing them .

I don't want to be rude but I think many addicts neeed to educate themselves when inducing on a drug like Suboxone . Less is more and the doctor is not always right . The woman Doc who induced me was very educated on it but I still did not follow her plan exactly . She also wanted me to start out at 16 mgs a day . I didn't, why should I when 8mgs kept me well . I reduced my doses quicker than what she had planned. And I did it in 30 days instead of the 60 she had planned. Just made sense to get it over as quick as possible .

Good luck .

No offense taken, don't worry. I agree I should have educated myself beforehand. I did look into it a little bit during my hydro w/d's when I was looking for ways to make them a little better, but read it was mostly for Oxycodone addictions so I didn't give it much thought. Figured it didn't/wouldn't apply to me and just brushed it off. I was put on Suboxone the same day I went into my doctor's office (I went in at what I now believe was the peak of my hydro w/d's), so there was zero time to look into it further before I was induced. I'm not gonna lie, when he said "This will make the withdrawals go away", he had said the magic words. That was all I needed to hear at the time to agree to the treatment. I guess I just didn't really stop to think about what I was getting myself into; I wasn't in the right frame of mind. But if I had, and knew what I knew now, I'm sure I just would have been like "Nah, it's okay doc. I'll go home and suck it up... I can deal for a couple more days."

Trust me, I know I didn't need to be on the Suboxone for so long. That I probably didn't need to be on it at all since the bupe is stronger than the dosage of hydro I was taking. But I listened to my doctor instead, and so like most things, by the time I realized all of this and actually did my own research it was already too late. I just like to try and get my story out there... both my experiences with pure opiate addiction AND with Suboxone... so that people can avoid both if possible.

Lol, I once had someone tell me, "You're too young to be on Suboxone." I was like... what? I'm too young to be addicted to drugs? Why were there 14 year old heroin addicts in rehab with me back when I was 16 then...? I just thought it was kind of strange. The girl who said it worked in a pharmacy too and is going to pharmacy school, lol that's the sad part. I guess it's just another example of the ignorance too many people have when it comes to opiates... in ALL aspects of the medical profession.

So... I decided to change my avatar from a bunch of Suboxone to the Burton logo. I had an epiphany, like, 10 minutes ago and realized that snowboarding is going to be my motivation for quitting opiates for good. Because snowboarding made me feel alive, and it was the love of my life before opiates replaced it and claimed that title instead. When people used to think of me, they used to think "snowboarder." Now, I haven't gone snowboarding in two seasons... at first I thought I just got over it, but now I realize it was because of the opiates. It was when my addiction really kicked in that I just stopped going. Can't wait to get back on those mountains; if snowboarding again isn't motivation enough then I don't know what is! <3

^Good for you, it really helps to have something like that to get you back in the rhythm off life. My thing is bass guitar...

Did you jump from the Sub?

Yes. The hard part was lowering my dose from 8mg to .5, .25. The sub didnt make me feel like a million bucks...but i wasnt surprised. I thought it was important that i get off sub relatively fast. It is a powerfull drug, nothing to play around with. Some people fuck around with sub for a few years and they become very addicted.

So it took like a month to taper off. Also ive gotten off with sub before all this. Its been good to me. Ive been off sub a week +, havent used dope a month+
