Hi all, this is going to be a bit of a rant so be advised :P

I've been diagnosed with ADHD(combined type) about 2 years ago(although it was quite obvious I have for as long as I can remember) and i've been cycling through various forms of racemic methylphenidate(the only registered med in my country for the condition). It's possible to get a prescription for amphetamines and dexmethylphenidate here but it has to be imported which makes it too expensive for the big majority of people.

Now, I have experimented with low doses of high quality d-methamp to treat my ADHD a few times in the past, and have also tried Desoxyn(oral dosing only, 10mg doses taken once or twice as needed throughout the day with both Desoxyn and d-methamp) on occasion with much better results than methylphenidate and no side effects whatsoever(the peripheral enantiomer of racemic formulations is very rough for me and makes me feel very uncomfortable and twitchy).

I tried switching my script to Dexedrine after my trials with d-amph after my positive reaction to d-methamp but was denied because "it has high abuse potential". Following that I considered asking for dexmethylphenidate but as mentioned earlier, it's too expensive where I live because it needs to be imported and isn't covered at all by insurance plans and am basically stuck with a med that doesn't completely agree with me because of financial motives and stupid prejudice.

This all ties to my original question because I see this happening in regards to Desoxyn as well. Clearly using very low oral doses of clean and reliable Meth is a far cry from binging on ridiculous doses of dirty street drugs. It annoys me to see people states side denied a very viable treatment option due to the same reasons I am: anachronistic stigma, war on drugs mentality and financial motives at the expense of people's well being.

What's your opinion on this? do you think Desoxyn should be included in the same category as other amphetamine medications? or do you agree it's too dangerous and should be kept as an absolute last resort like it is now?

My opinion is that your lucky you can even get amphetamines/dextromph, here it's only racemic mph + practically impossible to actually get. Buying eph online is a much simpler solution (too bad all the vendors I know have the racemic version).

I am RX 25mg of methamphetamine hcl a day, aka Desoxyn. I get 150 5mg tablets a month, taking five a day.. DOes that answer your question? Its rarely RX therefore when you obtain a legal script you have to find a good pharmacy that will order it.. Pharmacies do not stock Desoxyn unless a patient/customers takes it/requests it. ANd it's Schedule II just like Amphetamine, there is a black box warning for Methamphetamine though detailing that it is very ab-usable.

p.S Desoxyn is only available in the USA.

IME it isn't hard to get an actual script for the stuff. The real pain is finding it and paying for it. As mentioned, very few pharmacies actually stock it and it is insanely expensive. I imagine it just was never able to take root in a market dominated by amphetamine and methylphenidate preparations.

I've never been able to see any advantage to taking desoxyn. At best it felt very comparable to amphetamine, but I found it less constant in its effects and weaker in general. I think the stuff gets hyped up because it is relatively rare, but in reality it doesn't live up to the hype and is probably one of the shittier ADHD drugs.

Short answer...Because its meth. Imagine if it was handed out like adderall and ritalin is (at least here in the US). I don't know about Desoxyn, but street meth is really euphoric and addicting so I'm guessing it is too. There would be some people who would take half the bottle and tweak out doing stupid shit. However, I feel like it's not prescribed enough because of doctors not wanting to risk their medical license. From what I have read from user reviews, it's the holy grail of ADD meds with the least amount of side effects. I suggested it to a psychiatrist of mine a few years ago and she flipped a shit! But she was a psychotic bitch who had no business being any type of mental health professional. I think it should at least be considered but as a last resort. They only come in 5mg pills anyways so I doubt you would get tweaked unless you took a bunch.

Funny story: My sister went to a doctor and was diagnosed with ADD. The old doc was talking about methylphenidate and amphetamine salts and decided on the adderall. When she wrote the script, she made a mistake and wrote it as methamphetamine (accidentally combining METHylphenidate and amphetamine). When my sister went to the pharmacy, she got all kinds of weird looks from the pharmacists and they told her they didn't have it and to go somewhere else. She then realized the mistake and, being the angel she is, she called the doc and got it corrected.

This isn't an HR topic, and it definitely is out there and it is available you just need to have A) legitimate conditons for needing it and B) a doctor who doesn't justify their practice based on the media stigma and they actually stick to the medical training they got.

I'm prescribed a lot of Desoxyn, and have been for most of my life, ever since I was first diagnosted with ADD, and all the other shitty meds like Adderall XR & IR, Dexedrine (was a step up but still had side effects for me) ER and IR, I tried everything and Desoxyn was always one that people loved and said was the most effective and had the least side effects. They were right, I have no side effects from therapeutic dosing of desoxyn, it's by far the most superiod attention defecit medication I've ever tried.

They may only make 5mg IR pills (because the Spansules were too easy to inject) but honestly they are pretty much all one might need. I've never needed a dose increase, ever since I was put on it, and can take a lot per day I'm not going into more specifics but I am basically in charge of my dose, but this is one of those drugs where "less is more" can definitely apply.

I don't get the strange cardiovascular side effects and disgusting PNS side effects even at 40-60mg Desoxyn, but honestly there are very few activities in life that require that much Desoxyn, most of the time a micro-dose approach works best IMO, dosing in 5-10mg increments is the most efficacious way I use it.

This drug especially when used at therapeutic doses is incredible for therapeutic dosing, but as far as recreationally, it's nothing like actual crystal methamphetamine, which I presume is due to the inherently huger doses one would get from just one line/bump/rail/shot/dose of crystal vs one 5mg dextro-methamphetamine tablet.

Basically, what I'm saying is that the abuse potential with Desoxyn is extremely overrated, and while yes it can be manipulated into an abusable form, it's nowhere near as risky as the clandestine/illegal crystal methamphetamine formulation, where there is no quality control/testing or regulations and standards that the product must pass before resale, and Desoxyn they've done a really good job at making pretty much pointless to IV because it's so effective via traditional ROA's like oral and rectal.
