Why is weed mainly smoked?

Everywhere I look it's the same degenerate talk about how people want an instantaneous high using pipes and all of this other shit. I absolutely hate smoking with a passion, I hate the smell, and I hate the image it has made weed. So, why aren't gummies the more popular method? They are much safer, there's no terrible smell, the high is much more strong, and since it isn't instantaneous there is much less risk of addiction. Of course, even without the lung damage if you take a potent amount of weed gummies each day just like with smoking your risk of developing some insane mental condition skyrockets through the roof. That goes with abusing any drug, although I'd argue that with gummies the risk is far lower.

Full disclosure, I don't smoke and never will, so obviously I am a bit biased. But so are the people who mainly smoke as their form of consumption.
It's easier when you can mainly only get bud, making edibles can lose the potency if you're not careful.

My parents giving me slack about making infused butter in the house. How bad does it stink up the kitchen decarbing? Can you decarb with a toaster oven? I might get one for the garage and do it out there. At least I broke the ice about it. It might just be something to let simmer.

I smoke all day usually. Vape one big dose of flower in the middle of the day. It might be out of abundance and necessity. Edibles are nice, but not all that common in PA unless you make them. But they're starting to come around. I'd say the europeans learned to smoke tobacco from the western world, brought it back, and kicked into it with opium, tobacco, then maybe pot. Only thing about smoking all day is your lungs have a limit, and I'm constantly coughing up phlegm.
For decarbing wrap the ground up flower in greaseproof paper, seal it with folds and then enclose that envelope in another sealed envelope of foil. I used to cook up some while the kids were at school, not much smell at the time this way and certainly none an hour later. Let it cool still sealed. Don't let it cook above 120'C and mix well in fat before eating. I love edibles but you can only take them if you've a lot of time, they don't wear off for hours. Can get quite trippy if you take enough, it can be hard to judge in advance when the effects are delayed.

I think. as a rule, humans like to watch smoke coming out of their mouth. Ever smoked in a pitch black room? Bet you never do it again. Blind people don't smoke.

There's something that watching it come out of our mouth that fascinates us and perpetuates smoking. If you ever want to quit just put a blindfold on. You won't enjoy smoking anymore. You won't be able to watch it in your hand, you won't enjoy the taste, and you won't enjoy not being able to see the smoke.

If it was practical to blindfold myself for a day i would try it and report back but i fear my dog would walk me down to the frozen lake if i couldn't see where she was going.

@papercuts I heard 175F for 90 minutes or was thinking 220F for 40 minutes. There's a chart that shows optimal baking times. GOtta find that again.

Edible cannabis is too sedating for me to use often. It also seems to fuck with hormones way worse, I notice low T stuff after awhile eating the stuff. Sucks too cuz honestly I wish I could just eat it for the same high as smoking, it would save me lungs.

Decarboxylating bud isn’t a smell free process by any means, it will stink up. I personally find the process of making the butter with a long simmer, then doing multiple long simmer with fresh distilled water to clean it up, then I make caramels. The entire process seems to produce better product then trying to decarb before, it’s being done with less loss IMO. Each step further decarbs, the caramel making being the most efficient step.

Why smoke?

1. It's quick
2. It's quick

3. There are people like me who actually enjoy the taste, smell, and ritual of smoking.

I am biased. I've been smoking cigarettes daily for 50 years. Love the goddamned things, even though my father and both grandfathers died of lung disease.

very rarely ill enjoy a joint with some hash in it, in general i always choose vaping over smoking its actually a better taste and aftertaste, doesnt stink up your home and actually delivers a more potent hit than smoking does.

When I grew up, you smoked bongs or joints. Those were pretty much the only options. Edibles were a rarity.

Change takes time.

I prefer tincture over smoking for a shorter duration / delta 8 high. Smoking is bad for your teeth, your gums, your throat, your lungs, etc. When people die in fires, they most often die from smoke inhalation. Smoke is not good for you.

Swishing infused MCT oil is good for your teeth. Ayurvedic medicine has included "oil pulling" for centuries. It also reportedly has numerous other health benefits.

Smoking also stinks so it makes me more paranoid in certain situations, whereas - with tincture - I can literally get high on the train.

People are slowly coming around.

Agreed, 100%.

Vaping is superior to smoking in almost every way.

So blindfold and also ice skates before the walk?

I should look up the equivalent in 'C, it's got to be more than the boiling point of water, oil has a higher boiling point, add sugar it goes higher again. I've seen recipes saying bake it 120'C for 40mins to 110'C for over an hour with just dry flower, then it keeps for months, just dry in a sealed tin. I've infused coconut oil too, but it's not as strong as adding well ground, decarbed flower as an ingredient. I must be leaving some behind straining the oil?

You gotta die of something. That's what my granny always said, she smoked til she was 89, then died quickly. Don't know of a better way to do it than that, lol.

I agree. And I'm glad it worked out that way for your granny.
Unfortunately most victims of lung disease die prolonged agonizing deaths. Like slowly suffocating over months or years.
I'll off myself before I go through that.

They used to leave you enough morphine to OD on at home once it got agonising, doctors aren't allowed to do that any more, but where there's a will...

Vaporization is the answer. As minimal, pure, direct, unfiltered. Combustion is very very toxic you know.

Think about it. Clever people, want to avoid that you would think.

The nova decarboxylator is rated for task there. I don't own. I would. Maybe will.

Depends on tomorrow. But that + magical butter machine for edibles, would way supersede I reckon our home oven decarb then coconut infusing.

Another year seriously if there is one and finances and harvest are there.

Right - i think the best way to do it is the slow cooker on low for about 12 hours.....easy as can be - and yea it stinks it up for sure - not much you can do about it

212F is the boiling point of water. But removing carbon dioxide from carboxylic acids starts at around 150F, it'll just take some time. Too high and you get more smokey flavor in your ganja oil. There's a sweet spot def an I think it's at around 200F or 220F if you think it has to be higher than the bp of H2O.
