Why is Oxycontin more popular than other opioids. I.E. Dilaudid , Suboxone

I prefer oxycodone to any opiate really, it's half stimulating and really relaxing at the same time, euphoric. Then again, Pethidine is my all time favorite opioid, and I'm not a regular user of opiates whatsoever.

its hilarious to me that suboxone and oxycontin/dilaudid are even being compared to each other as "recreational highs"...i hate suboxone. i have 1 and a half but i refuse to fall back on them unless i absolutely need to. im dopesick now but dont want to ruin my chances, what if i score tonight or tomorrow and the sub. is still in my system? i save that shit for absolute emergencies. i hate it because of how long you have to wait sometimes to do dope after takin it.

Not for people that dont IV, headcase666. infact they are not much fun at all compared to oxy. It's probably been answered, but the answer should be fairly obvious i would have thought? it has to be the most user friendly opiate out there? remove wax matrix, crush, snort!

I could probably fix a shot of dope before you'd even have your pill crushed completely. But it's definately easier to abuse than some other opiates. But i think the controlled dosage makes it easier to use/abuse. If you do an OC 40 and get sick, then you can just do half next time. With the varying quality of street heroin it's harder accurately measure a dose (especially for beginners).

Not to mention, OC's are perfectly safe because they're prescribed whereas heroin is evil because it's evil.8)

as far as suboxone goes than oxy, do not be scared to take a LITTLE (when I say little i mean like the smallest whole peice without being all powder you can get). I do this sometimes while waiting for phone calls to get oxy and when I fianlly come through as long as its like 3 hours later I actually think the suboxone makes the oxy feel stronger. I know that sounds crazy but thats an honest fact.

for the record, i much prefer heroin over OC. I should have said the most user friendly pharmaceutical opiate, as i realize how quickly i can take a bump of smack as apposed to crushing a pill.

Here's a kicker for you.

no price discussion please

I always felt OC was extremely over-rated and over-priced. As far as IV use goes, it's way too much to go through and too much of a potential health concern, as opposed to grade-A powder heroin from a very reliable source. Yet I've seen people go the OC route when said heroin was available to them. I never understood it. I do stress "reliable source" on this one, though. I haven't done heroin on a regular basis for several years now. These days I'm on what I would call an "ope-lite_ regimen.

Because they look so damn sexy. Although the generic "M 4" hydromorphones look very nice too...

No, that's not the real reason. Availability probably. And that they come in large doses in one pill.

I think that its probably so prevalent because it was pushed SO hard by Purdue Pharma representatives when it initially released. I was talking to my Suboxone doctor about the release of OxyContin and what its initial impact was.

That's true. I was talking to an old-timer about drugs, his doc put him on Oxycontin some years ago in the 90s. He was all "it's probably some bullshit" but man was he wrong. IME, most experienced opiate-takers would rather have D even if they aren't shooting (better nod). Plus Dilaudid is about half the price of OC around here. There are tons of people who do Oxycontin and OC only. A lot of these folks along with opiate-naive people will tell you that nothing compares to oxy. OC does have a very stimulating quality to it...you can get shit done on it.

I think if hydrocodone came in the form of an 80mg ER pill it would be way more popular than oxycodone anyday. People love oxy because they get HIGH from it. I can't even count the number of people that tell me vicodin does nothing for them or that half an OC gets them way higher than 2 vicodin..well DUH. People think that poping a couple vicodin should get them super high when it never will..even if you have a super low tolerance.

I honestly think that hydrocodone offers a much better high than oxycodone and I think most people in general would enjoy it more if they actually did enough to get high. It is just much easier for people to blow half an 80mg OC rather than popping 8 vicodin. Oxy is just so available and so inviting when it comes to abuse that it isn't hard to see why people use it so much over other opiates.

in my 10 years of drug use the only prescription opiates i've seen were hydrocodone, demerol, codeine, morphine, oxycodone, and methadone i like hydrocodone better than oxycodone but oxycontin has the advantage of being sniffable (unlike the others) which without a doubt makes it more popular. i haven't seen fentanyl, dilaudid, or others not on the above list. oxycontin is not difficult to get a hold of.
plus, the media blew up like crazy a few years ago.
