Why is Harry so despised???

It's not as if smack is universally despised, you just have to find the right circle of people.
For instance, right here in Other Drugs, heroin is as fucking trendy as a Starbucks, everyone does it...
Besides, I think the discrimination isn't so much against heroin itself, rather it is aimed more at the act of shooting up. You'll find many many people that actually do smack, but they just couldn't imagine ever shooting it up. Cause you know, that would be just going to far :)
Sigh, people are funny sometimes...

Uh... no thanks! I'd much rather have a heroin habit than a weed habit. My mind doesn't go to fucking mush on heroin. I can still go to work, talk, and function on heroin. Extended weed use totally fucks my short term memory- munchies absolutely suck! I hate weed.

If heroin was legally prescribed, all the negative effects would change, or no longer exist. Most of the problems of heroin are caused by prohibition.

...exactly (though i still LOVE my weed ;) )...
...basic fact is, that due to its RELATIVELY low price, heroin has always been open to lower-class users, people that are easily attracted to its reality-escaping potential, and especially people that cannot afford hollywood-star, capitalist-tycoon or future US-president detox centres, so they die on the streets... and the media are there to catch it all, and wash your brains with it...
so the evils of heroin sure as hell arent invented, but they are grossly misrepresented...

I would argue this point because MDMA is not physically addictive like heroin. Also overdosing on heroin is a lot easier then overdosing on MDMA. In fact I've never heard of anyone overdosing from MDMA...
You can quit heroin and once you get completely over the withdrawals you're back to normal.
If you've been rolling on MDMA every weekend for the past year, chances are you'll be talking like a retard and have the memory of a pre-Pentium computer for a good year or so.
None. Because it's not as addicitive as heroin, nobody takes it 3 times a day, 365 days a year. lol.
MDMA addiction is entirely psychological. It's not evern worth comparing the "addictivness" of the drugs together.
And addiction or not, that's not the reason most people will not take ecstasy on a daily basis. It's easy to function on heroin every waking hour. However, you just can't do that with ecstasy. Also, if you did heroin the night before and only got 3 hours of sleep, you can shoot up the following morning and feel like a million bucks. You only get 3 hours of sleep on MDMA, you're going to feel like you've been hit by a truck. That's why there are few people who take it daily.
Now, if ecstasy didn't wear you out, give you a hangover and if you could think at least half-way straight when you were rolling, I know tons of people who would take it on a daily basis.
There is a difference between controlling a drug and allowing a drug to control you. People often frown upon the use of H because they believe that no one is willfully able to contain their usage of the drug.
I don't know what heroin you're doing, but the heroin I was using.. you had to travel to the ghetto to get it. And there were tons of people there daily selling heroin to support their addiction and others buying heroin to sustain their addiction. Heroin users that aren't junkies either haven't used it for very long or are in the EXTREME MINORITY.
Many people do stupid things and blame it on the fact they are "addicted" to drugs, this in turns makes those who use the drug look as though they are on a lower level.
I would not have even considered a lot of the things I've done over the past year if I hadn't been so hooked. When the only time you feel normal is when you're on heroin and any time you're not you're miserably sick and severely depressed, you'll rationalize anything just to feel normal again.
and at the same time, it can be a life saver for most.
Has anyone ever told you that you're a fucking idiot?
I have been spending time with Mr Harry for a very long period of time now, on and off for month long (usually starting at 1 bag, at 4-7 [assuming all the dope is equal purity] by the end of the month) binges (roughly). Some physical dependence makes itself clear every now and then, but for the most part the whole concept of addiction is that pyschological aspect of it.
Hmm.. that sounds so remarkably similar to the same story I've heard from DOZENS of other junkies about how they started using and got hooked!
I came across H when I was very depressed, confused, suicidal, etc, etc. I thought: "Well, this will be an easy way to end it. Drift into a drug induced hell." However, I soon realized that H could actually be a positive impact. When high on it, as stated, your problems dissolve, leaves you with a sense of well being, opens you up to how you could feel if you let your problems, and worries go.
Aside from the suicidal part, that's why I got into it. Same with EVERYONE else I know. Eventually you'll rationalize "why not just feel good all the time?" and start overusing it then you'll be a little bitch and start using to avoid feeling shitty then you're hooked and you just end up becoming more depressed than you were in the first place. Eventually you have to start shooting several times a day just to feel "normal". It's a very reinforcing addiction.
And most people that try heroin don't get addicted.
A lot of people that try heroin for the first time don't like it and never want to try it again or they decide they like it too much and never try it again.
Now how many people use it regularly and don't become addicted? That's the real question.
if you can do opiates without getting addicted, be my guest. i have personally seen alot of my friends turn into junkies, although a few haven't. if you can use it sometimes, more power to you. but if you get addicted, i'm probaly gonna laugh at you.
These threads are just lame. Everytime there is a thread on this subject, everybody becomes the champion of heroin and it's totally cool and don't blame the drug and don't let it take over your life.
Then you see the "how do I get off smack" threads and everyone has all this worthless advice and the consesus is basically that you'll never quit doing heroin and if you do you'll relapse within the next 2 years. So much for self control...
If heroin was legally prescribed, all the negative effects would change, or no longer exist. Most of the problems of heroin are caused by prohibition.
I don't know. I would really hate to see what my veins looked like if I would continue using several times a day on a daily basis.

i just think its stupid when people that say they use heroin on and off for a month or so and realize it is only pyschological addiction like one poster said. its also very much physical addiction. i use to think the same thing as you back when i used it "on and off" but once you get into using it just on and not so much off then you gotta problem. its not only you thinking you need dope that will make you wake up in the middle of the night or morning to do it. your body does go through physical withdrawl and it makes it hard to kick. once you get addicted youll know and youll see the difference of what you thought it was and what it is, thats how it happened to me at least.
on a second note, i definley would rather be hooked on heroin then weed. i do some heroin and i can go do everything i normally do. i smoke some weed and im out of it like a vegtable. thats just my opinion though some people like that alot i guess. ill stick to my friend good old H. im out see ya later

It's fun at first, until you're lying in bed sweating hot, freezing cold, muscles aching, stomach cramps, you cant eat, you cant shit, you can't even move except for the uncontrolable twitches over your entire body. That isn't fun. And even when you do use again, and the sickness dissapears heroin still isn't fun-its a means to feel normal. A means to move your legs to the side of the bed and stand up and drive your car to get more heroin so that you can continue to function. And thats about the only pleasure that heroin gives at this point.
yeah tell me about it. if you think heroin addiction is easy or fun then you have never been addicted. period. although i absolutely love the shit, don't get me wrong, there are side effects. friends going to jail... regularly. cars getting impounded by the chicago police. suddenly finding yourself walking through the west side, your white ass sticking out, hoping not to get raped, beat, mugged, or arrested. yeah, it happens. watching friends hawk shit (hmhmm, ali), their parents shit, to get a fix. bruises. having to wear long sleeve shirts in hundred degree weather so you won't get weird stares. you can't come... or go to the bathroom (or it fuckin hurts, sorry to share that). lying, always lying. your friends always lying. not being able to trust them, guarding your shit for your life, cause they will take it. im not saying every person addicted to heroin does this. this is just what i've experienced. and not getting high anymore. spending 40 bucks a day just to walk. i miss the days when i could still get high. i don't know what happened. dealing with assholes, sketchy, crazy, annoying, rude people just to get a ride into the city. and the very worst... running out. i just went through withdraw (yeah, im clean as of two days ago) and it was hell. if you've never spent days feeling like someone is slowly slicing you to pieces with a razor... that's why the shit is hard to get off of. its painful. meeting junkies in their 20s, 30s, who've been using for a decade and CAN'T STOP. sad parents, fucked up kids. it hurts me to listen to someone who wants to quit so badly, get their life on track, finish college, whatever... but can't. and doesn't. and if you are a casual user, props to ya, but that won't last forever. enjoy the high while you still have it.
-staind rose-
sorry about the rambling, just my thoughts on the shit. of course there is nothing better then watching the blood shoot into the rig, mix with the dope, and glide into your vein. ohhh. check out my signature... that pretty much says it all.

If you started using the shit in the first place its your own fault. You no what can happen, yet people still use everyday cause they like the high so much. Heroin is a fucking chemical that isn't alive, you are the one that does it, it doesn't do you. If you try to blame the drugs, your just lying to yourself to feel better. Some decisions effect you for the rest of your life, you think the jackass that shot himself in the face blames the gun for working? Well, no cause he is dead, but you get the point. If you play the game don't get pissed when the game plays you.

no matter how many times it was drilled into my head that heroin was an addictive drug that destroyed lives it didn't become clear until I experienced it. no amount of warning can prepare you for this.
and the question was why do people despise h, most people are stating the negative side effects of junk and not just blaming a drug.

I agree that H is a very harmfull drug if used excessively. So can Alcohol be, and most other drugs for that matter. Whats the difference between an alcohic & a junkie? (nothing, as both are addicted to one substance or another) The only difference is though not everyone that drinks is considered an alcoholic. This is not the case for the casual H user, as can be seen by some of the messages in this thread. It seems like the casual H user own peers dont believe there is such a thing as a casul user, if H users themselves cant be convinced I cant see the rest of society be either.

i agree totally. im the same way on weed. im the same way on opiates as well. weed sucks. its dummy dope.

Yep heroin gets a bad rap because it's one of the easiest drugs to get addicted to, and addicts do odd things (therefore giving the drug a bad rap).
In relation to the H/MDMA discussion, I personally reckon that MDMA is a lot more dangerous than heroin in pure form. There are many people in the UK who have been on presription opiates such as morphine for decades, and are in perfect health. MDMA is a far harsher drug, with stronger and longer lasting effects both physically and mentally.
And MDMA is IMO physically addictive as are all amphetamines. We simply do not see many MDMA addicts as peole can not handle the constant effects of the drug, unlike with heroin.

i do know several people whose minds have been altered in a nEGATIVE way from their MDMA usage....they quit because they were sick of dealing with the mood swings, depression, and overall horribly shitty feeling they would describe to me..im not sure about the physical addictiveness of MDMA, like said no one uses it everyday so its impossible to comment on that subject...
as far as saying HEROIN is a great drug, im not sure...yeah sure, it gives one a pretty good high, it eliminates your problems for awhile(although i have NEVER ever taken a drug because i had a "bad day")BUT like said a million times HEROIN is extremely addicting!!! i dont care how many times everyone was told how bad H was going thru school while they were young, they will never know the true addictive power of HEROIN until they have stepped across that barrier and have TAKEN IT..i have taken many diffferent types of OPIATES and my favorite is OXY and HEROIN is up there somewhere...i have been taking it for the past month or so, for 2-3 days in a row, then i lay off because i find off of HEROIN i perform to a LESSER degree...i cannot play sports as well, i cannot lift as much weight when working out, my appetite is down tto nothing while high on H, and i am very much LESS motivated when it comes to HAVING SEX while on H...i love the mellow feeling H(OPIATES) gives me but there are bad feelings that go along with it, like standing in front of a urinal for 5 minutes in order to take a piss, or going thru the hassle of getting it and paying the high price and not knowing if the stuff you are getting is "good shit" or not..i just went thru OXY withdrawal this past summer and am not about to get addicted to anything else...anyways, i cannot afford an H addiction...shit, starting out, its about $40 for me to be high all day...thats too much for me so i wouldnt even have a choice to become addicted or not...
i would NOT recommend H or any OPIATE to anyone...its the DEVIL in disguise...am i a hypocrite for saying this, NO because i have already stepped across the line, that line i dont care for others to cross as usually it leads to destruction, despair, and just problems in general in which i know many of those problems would be eliminated if the drug was LEGAL but im not sure what type of world this would be if we could buy HEROIN or COCA at the local drug store....i dunno about that...
when it comes to OD'ing on H, i have a belief that half of these so called overdoses are actually intentional suicides....its just my opinion, but i believe many people who OD on "H" who were long, regular users who just DIDN'T get out of rehab intentionally rig themselves up a lethal dose and go out on a so called "high note"...its just my opinion as an H users life is usually a very depressing one, filled with despair, inner turmoil, that the only way they see an end to it is to take their own life.... i know of several people right now whose whole family is torn to pieces over their sons/daughters use, and the user themself knows the drug is what is killing their spirit/body/life/ambition yet the addiction is there to keep them in it for the long haul...some people beat it, but most(95%) don't!!!!!!!!!!
as far as people saying they were would rather be hooked on HEROIN than WEED, they must have never been hooked on HEROIN...either that or they are being sarcastic....there isnt even physical withdrawal to WEED, only mental....i really dont even consider WEED an "addictive" drug in the sense as HEROIN, COCAINE, METH are...

Dnkhrb5....
Heroin withdrawl may be pretty harsh, but look into some other drugs, mostly legal, and you will see it is not nearly as bad as what you are saying.
Benzo withdrawl? Without medical help? Can mean death.
Alcohol withdrawl? Without medical help? Can mean death.
Love In Vein.....
"you can quit heroin and once you get completly over the withdrawls you're back to normal"
Okay, been there? Loved someone who has been there?
Would you like to explain to a heroin addict what "normal" is?
Go to the dark Side or any mesage board you can find for opiate addicts, read all the posts, then we can talk about that statement again.
Twigburst....
Nothing is physically addictive to anyone.
There are people who will drink socially for an entire lifetime and no matter what you want to think there are people who will use opiates in a very controlled manner for an entire lifetime.
There is a whole reward system working in our heads (yes, that starts the addiction...if the opiates don't get you "there" you are not going to abuse them, and they DO NOT get everyone "there") that makes us continue to use what ever substance it is that works for us.
That is why some people drink, but hate coke, love heroin, but hate to drink. Can down Xanax bars, but would never go for X a second time....
I am ready to go to sleep now, so I am not going to finish reading the rest of these replies.
I just wanted to point out that heroin is no better and no worse then any other drug. An addict is an addict no matter what the "addiction"
People have given heroin a bad rap because in the past it was considered a "dirty" drug. That is to say it was cheap and very ghetto, these days it comes a bit cleaner and can be snorted instead of having to have the needle taboo going for it and so it has become a bit more of the hip new drug.
Don't agree that it is the new love child, go check out the lines at the methadone clinics.
There are a million reasons why it is so despised, some are reasonable, some are not.
Kind of like every other drug now that I think about it.

Knowing this (before you posted it) didn't make MY withdrawl from heroin any worse. It was as bad as I said, that's why I said it.
And in reply to your post I'll say this again: the question of this thread is "Why is Harry so despised???" I can only post about MY experience with heroin, and why I think it's hated so much.
I know I've already posted a lot here--but I have one more thing to say;
I think when your friends cringe at the word herion-it's because they don't want to see you start lying, stealing, losing massive amounts of weight, having track marks all over your body, getting sick, going broke...etc They're assuming the worst (which is probably a good idea). I've already stated what I feel is the worst about heroin.
I know I'd advise someone I care about to stay away from it because I think for the most part junkies are assholes, and of course I'd only wish withdrawl on my worst of my enemies.

I think DnkHrb5 is right, people "despise" heroin because of the type of people they see using it. Once addicted to heroin many become totally selfish, abusing and disrespecting family and friends, sacrificing their relationships for heroin. They appear like a completely different person to their family and friends, who associate heroin with this extremely negative personality change, and will all have a negative opinion which they will share with others. In a sense, one persons heroin use can affect many "innocent" people more consistently than many other drugs.
(I'm not saying all heroin users are like this, but these stories are the ones that people tend to passed on, so it is understandable that this image is seen as the norm for heroin users.)

Freak you said "as far as people saying they were would rather be hooked on HEROIN than WEED, they must have never been hooked on HEROIN"
in my reply i said that and it is true for me. i am hooked on heroin and probably will be till i die. i meant by it that id rather be hooked on heroin because i can perform my everyday activities while on heroin. if im on weed i cant even move i have to sit there and just be out of it. thats my experience anyway and its whati believe

On the other hand, most long term daily smokers of pot can more or less function normal when stoned as well (well, a little slower than normal maybe). At least with weed the side effects and stigma aren't quite so great.
Regardless, your choice of drugs should be just that, your choice. I greatly prefer marijuana to opiates, but don't get me wrong I can see the attraction.
