Why does some weed last so long?

Hey all, just a quick question. So I'm not a huge pot smoker and Ill get a bag every few months when I forget what its like. So usually I'll smoke a couple of pipes, be really high for about 2 hours then sober up, if I sleep I'll usually always wake up sober. Last week I bought a bag of bush, when I smoke this weed it last for a long time but doesn't really get me that high. I mean I smoked a J at about 2pm, its now 7:30pm and I am still high. Why does this happen??

The suns UV spectrum creates turpins that can not be found in hydro due to the spectrum of artificial light.

The likely breakdown of thc into lesser alkaloids and prolonged flowering period and a late harvest means the chemical profile of the cannabis itself is much different to what your body is used to.

Phenotypes man, That's why i love weed, you just never know what your going to get and every batch is a different high.

Outdoor provides the longest lasting and fullest highs, even if they dont produce the mega Thc of dutch and American indoor Indica/Sativa hybrids.

^ Interesting answer. However, I think it's a tolerance thing. OP, do you usually smoke later on in the day, so you go to bed a bit sooner after smoking (on the occasions that you do smoke)? I ask this because you said you usually wake up sober if you sleep. Maybe from not smoking very often, getting high so early in the day just leaves the effects to linger around longer, and this wouldn't be very dependent on the strain, just personal tolerance. I say this especially because you said you aren't really high but just seem to feel the effects for a longer duration of time.

What is the matter with weed that lasts? I don't understand the question.

the high from indica dominant strains last a bit longer IME. It's also mellowed out and doesn't get me 'that high' like a sativa dominant would.

I agree with purple though. The only time I've ever been high for 5+ hours was when my tolerance was nonexistent.

Doh, missed that he only smokes a bag every few months :|

^^
be nice. even mods sometimes read over the text too quickly sometimes. they're busy people.

^You should read his first answer again perhaps, he was agreeing with the mod.

I wish my weed lasted longer. I think that different weed has different balances of cannibinoids with creates different effects between strains. That or it might be related to tolerance like purple cloud said, I smoke everyday but smoking 5 minutes after waking seems to get me higher then smoking later in the day. And if you usually sleep off the end of the high then you probably just experienced that hour or so you were missing.

When I first started smoking at age 13, I'd stay high for 4-5 hours, but now, after years of daily smoking each high will last me maybe an hour, 2 if I'm lucky. Tolerance is a bitch.

^^
i guess even members read over things too quickly as well lol. my bad i misinterpreted.

It has to do with tolerance but I also found out it depends when I smoke. Cause usually if it was at the end of the night and I fell asleep when I was high, I would wake up still stoned. I don't know but then again that doesn't always happens. Yet, when my tolerance was low I could stay stoned for hours especially if I smoked a lot of dank. Now when I smoke my high fades away faster than when I wasn't smoking as much but that's expected.

Yeah, to all the comments about my answer, I said nothing about whether or not he smokes daily or every few months. I asked what time of the day he usually smokes --- please read posts thoroughly before saying insulting shit to a moderator, since I REALLY do not appreciate it, and neither do any of the other mods on here. We put a lot of time into this website and aren't paid, and disrespect from members will not get one very far.

Be nice to purple! He's the only mod that hasn't been a dick to me at one point or another. Oh, cane2theleft is cool too :)

Cheers for the replies. I usually smoke at about 3 in the afternoon an the high lasts until I go to sleep at about 10. I've had this bag of weed for over a week now just smoking little bits an it doesn't seem to last quiet as long now as it did when I first got it so I'm assuming its a tolerance thing.

another +1 for the tolerance theory lol

even when i first started smoking i dont know if i ever reached the 5 hour mark of being high. also i believe strain definetly has something to do with it. you mightve got a different strain this time one thats more on the indica side. not much experience with that but what ive read its more of a relaxing and body feeling than a "oh my gosh im stoned out of my mind trippin!" feeling lol

Excellent response! %) One of the best posts I've seen here in a while!

A little bit off topic of the original post, but the effect of UV is greatest mid summer, which is when autos will start to flower or if you're forcing them to flower by blacking out.

Other than that, I don't have anything of use to add to the thread, but to agree that it's down to different cannabinoid profiles resulting from the cannabis flower coming from different species (or different hybrids of the 2 main species, or even the third), or different strains from the different species, or even different phenotypes being expressed by said strains' genotypes depending on the effect of the environment they're in (such as a high UV light environment outside!!).

Tolerance can be a factor as well. There are just so many different possible factors and things to take into consideration it can make your head spin.

I'm thinking it's still too wet.

Thats when I notice my stash lasts.

Tolerance is one big factor, but it's also worthwhile to note that the cannabinoids all compete for metabolism, so in theory a complex mixture of THC, CBD, CBN etc is going to be metabolized slower than a dose of THC alone.

Thanks :)...and fyi, I'm female %)

Oh i was just stating i misread the first post, and that your answer was much more relevant to this persons situation. :)

That is a great theory sekio!

Ugly, if the stem twists its too wet, i find it should be dry enough so that if the stem is twisted it snaps almost immediately.
