Why do you use psychedelics?

If this has been discussed before, just tell me and erase this. But read it before, please ;)

Before saying that this has been discussed many times before, i want to highlight that i'm not trying to make a Poll-like thread separating recreative and spiritual (whatever that means)usage. What i want you is to just explain in your oun terms what motivates you to use and explore psyquedelic substances.

In my case, i really don't know. I mean, i usually don't have any plan on taking them, it just happens, because i'm offered or someone has some shit to sell. In the other hand, whenever i'm high on mushrooms, and ESPECIALLY, on LSD, i usually have a recurring epiphany which can be described as "The mainly purpose of using psyquedelics is to STOP usind and needing them, and by definition, any kind of drug". I'm not sayind this is a ultimate truth, just what flows through my mind while tripping.

Thanks

The mind is just like any other thing, you can only learn about it by fucking with it. In chemistry a compound is researched by essentially just fucking with it, heating it up, freezing it, reacting it with other compounds, just fucken with it in a bunch of ways. Its by observing how it reacts to being fucked with that we begin to understand the properties of the particular compound. The mind is the same way; I learn a lot about its nature when there's some potent psychedelics messing around with my neurochemistry in order to induce novel states of consciousness.

To test the limits and boundaries of the human mind (particularly my own). To know my psychology and mind right down to the individual neuron. To explore bizarre surreal worlds that run parallel to our own. To enhance my senses and understanding. Oh...and to have a freaking fun time with awesome lulz :D. Also increase my appreciation and relationship with music.

To have a good time by researching my own mind, mostly. Experiencing things that could not be experienced otherwise, or would be very hard to experience without the use of psychedelics.

Same reason we send astronauts into space, same reason Magellan went all over the world in a boat. Because we can never fully understand what's "out there" (wherever that may be) unless we go out and experience it first hand.

To learn. Learn about myself, the world, the interworkings of my soul.. everything I search for when using psychedelics

mostly to enhance creativity with dance. partially because the A/V aspects of it are so beautiful.

To figure myself out really, I like seeing things in new views with deeper meaning.

I also think they've made me a better person, in the last year since I started using psychedelics I've become a lot more of a pacifist and generally more of a generous person.

Because the psychedelic experience is unparalleled in euphoria, beauty and introspection. As if learning to be the master of your own mind isn't already enough, psychedelics submerge you in the most fulfilling bliss you could (n)ever imagine. =D

Yesss! How could I forget about the creative aspect of psychs?! The world would be a dull place indeed without psychedelic art...

I am a whore for experience.

And what it does to my drawing capability is something good for perspective, I love it.

Oh yeah, and stuff about introspection and such, I likes that somethin' good too.

Travel in the inner space that lies within my consciousness and subconsciousness. Oh and possibly try to have an awesome time while at it (though still open to uncomfortable awakenings if they happen to occur).

I take them to impress girls.

Really though, I like to use psychedelics because I am totally fascinated by everything about them and the effects they have on my mind once they are in my bloodstream. The first really psychedelic experience I had with mushrooms, I remember thinking something along the lines of "wow, I feel SO much like myself at this moment, like the true essence of what "me" is has never been so clear to me", so from that first trip, I knew there was something intrinsically valuable to the psychedelic experience, and I've been hooked ever since. I like the challenges they can present you, and I like the bliss states you can sometimes achieve through using psychedelics. I also like when my senses are distorted way beyond what is normally possible through other more "conventional drugs", although I do admit that is a hedonistic approach. A little bit of hedonism sometimes can't be THAT bad though can it, as long as it never becomes mindless self indulgence. Also, they have been used for thousands of years by many different cultures, I don't see any reason why we should stop taking them now, so I will personally take it upon myself to use psychedelics. As a matter of fact, I think our "dominator culture" could benefit immensely from a ten billion milligram rectally administered 2C-E trip.

A lot of people claim spiritual reasons and breaking down one's ego...what is that all about?
I have my own reasons for NOT using them.
