Hey all, Im an alcoholic Ive kicked booze several times, did inpatient rehab twice, managed an outpatient detox w/benzo with doctor, kicked on my own a few times with no help. This time, inpatient rehab and supervised detox w/benzos is not an option, Ill have to be on my own. Contrary to popular belief, the ER does NOT automatically take you in and help you detox just because youre having alcohol withdrawals, even with obvious severe tremors. I did it last time and they just hit me with a bag of saline and explained to me how a proper taper is supposed to be done, then sent me a several hundred dollar bill for it.
Anyway I dont know if Im mistaking it for benzos, but I believe I read here on Bluelight that seizures typically occur on like day 3 of cold turkey in some people. Today I had over 2 days sober, but my shakes were noticeably worse than yesterday and my balance is shot. Last time I noticed hardly any impairment to walking if at all on withdrawal, but Im sober and I walk like Im a pint deep this time. So I got a tad concerned and scraped together my last 5 bucks for some vodka a couple hours ago. Managed to somehow only take 2 shots (like asking a sick IV opie to only smoke 0.1 off a gram) and magically Im walking perfectly. Sadly I dont trust myself to be able to maintain a 2 shot buzz, and if I end up drinking it all tonigt Id like to prepare myself for the CT that Ill probably be facing this week.
So I guess the questions I have for you fine folk are:
Is there a certain day in detox that seizures typically occur? Like the 3rd or 4th day after cessation? Id like to make an effort to be around family or friends on that day in case I seize out and need someone to call for medical attention.
How often would you recommend someone who drinks a fifth (750 ml) of liquor daily take his taper shots? A shot or 2 every 4-6 hours is where I would start off personally, and then gradually increase time between shots, but Ive never done more than a crash taper before.
Ive CTed before with a slightly higher tolerance without seizures, but I was reckless before and these withdrawals seem to get worse everytime I start drinking. Thanks all, Im broke without insurance and the county hospital here doesnt do more for booze withdrawals than IV saline.
