Which came first for you?

For me it was the music , the drugs just let me appreciate it more.
and serotone, I agree with what you say

is alkey considered a drug?
the first time i went to Hard Kandy (which subsequently became my most loved place + home ground and im not afraid to say it!
smile.gif
) i was drunk from vodka neat shots.
it was a friday. i was quite blind drunk after having gone to SALT (erks!) beforehand. i had gone on home after SALT, and crashed into bed at 6am. my big brother and his friend came home, dragged me physically out of bed and to HK. i was dead tired other than being drunk. the minute i stepped in, i went from a floppy mess to a bouncing bunny for 2 whole hrs. they offered me half a pill which i refused. i just danced till my body gave up and every last ounce of energy ran out, and i fell asleep on the steps in the middle of HK in my brother's lap.
yes, NRG is my first electronica love. before that, i liked trance (BT, PvD, and it was the time DJ Sakin&friends' Protect your mind-Braveheart was popular), but NRG was really what got me into it. who says NRG is druggies' music? i beg to differ.

then went to 2tribes2000 where the drugs started. got into techno a coupla weeks later when i started going to Tezza as well as HK. was a pretty full on period.

From a more historical view point. Altered states, whether through music or drugs have been around longer then recorded human history. Drugs have played a major ritualistic role in many cultures. It is only our current western hypocriticol ideal of a non-drug culture that seems that has been unable to integrate drug induced altered into celabratory rituals.
Some people dislike the altered states induced, some people become addicated to the substances. Those are different stories altogether. However, in response to the initial question, the two came hand in hand long before anyone can recall.

Yah for pHalaNGes for being the first to admit it was the drugs.
It was neither really for me - certainly wasn't the drugs, but I didn't love the music either. It was just the madness of this hypnotic banging sound (which I barely had an ear for), and the sheer enjoyment of not caring what I looked like while dancing.
Every Picture Tells a Story Halloween - EPTAS is the coolest - it was the whole thing.

Music that moves you can give you feelings just as good as any drug.
I do it for the music.. mmmmmmmmmmmm

I swear, on my mothers life, I'm havin' the best time being off my pickle..
and feelin' the musik

The dancing. I had no idea what the hell to expect at my first rave, I just went for the hell of it, because I didn't want to be a piker. What really caught my attention was the way that these ravers danced heeee heeee
I thought it was oh so comical!! I wanted to dance just like these funny looking groovers. Some, I thought, danced very puppet like, like being controlled by someone from above by strings
smile.gif

Yes once I got started on the dancing, I became an addict. Music and the dancing hand in hand, I guess. Drugs never did tooo much for me hmmm with the exception of G hmmmmmm yes G
Sheesh I almost forgot about that half a tab of acid that I had at that first party. I'm glad it wasn't very potent

I would say the same as Jakoz.
Both came at the same time more or less.
BUT.... My appreciation for music has far out grown the drugs....

i'd just like to take this opportunity to make the following announcement:
hello my name's Kate and i used to be a goth. but thanks to this 12 step program... just kiddin peoples. i'm not ashamed of it or anything, that's who i was then and this is who i am now. i'd have to say it was the drugs that began my shift in scene (does that make me an inferior raver or somethin?) but it just helped me get into the music, which i now love for its own merits

i know some new tricks, i'll show them to you, your mother won't mind at all if i do

The drugs.
My first rave I think (this is really testing the memory) came before my first pill. But, to be honest (and I'm ashamed to admit it now
smile.gif
), I didn't really like my first rave at all. The second I liked a little better because I had drugs then I think.
But I still wasn't into "the scene"; you can't really get into raving if you only like the drug taking aspect in my opinion.
After starting with my first pill, which was probably 2 or 3 months after my first rave (at a guess - may have been longer). I took pills and goey on a semi-regular basis at house parties and trashy under 18's dance thingamabob's probably for 6 months to a year, or maybe even longer actually.
I then had a break for a while, over the next year or so I grew up some more, I still dropped occasionally, but the big difference was that my taste in music slowly changed. I started to like different music (mostly hardcore), and got slowly more into raves. Since about the start of this year, I've gotten more and more interested in the music and with that the drugs I suppose.
I've been raving for quite a while I guess, but haven't really become properly interested until the start of this year. Previously to that I just liked the novelty and the excuse to take drugs.
I've never been as keen as some with the music, and probably never will be. There are very few tracks of happy hardcore that I will hear and won't know, but ask me to name the song, or even worse the DJ, and I'm stumped.
That said, I still love it. I didn't always, but I don't really think that that matters. There are many things I didn't like the first time but did like the second, or even the third or fourth, in all aspects of life. And that works vice versa too.
Anyway, that's a way longer answer than was wanted or expected, I'm still more than a touch stoned in truth, which is probably why that came across a bit spiritual.
Oh well, I'm going to go and watch unbreakable now.
Cheerio

both at the same time

First party: Ganesha doof towards the start of the year
First drug: Acid
First real music: Psytrance
I come from sale, i'd never see any of this shit before in my life. And i was trippin, so i spent most of the night just trying to wrap my head around the whole friggin scene.
hehe, then there was the whole bunnydude insident, and my "unified theory of stuff", but thats another story.
Oh, incase you didnt guess, i havent looked back

um..... actually it all atrted for me when i was dealing @ the crown casino (BLACKJACK DEALING.. NOT WHAT U GUYS R THINKING OF )
;)
i had taken about $1,200 off of one of the owners of billboards, for some reason he invited me to go to hk, i guess he wanted to lure me there and beat the living shit out of me.
anyway, i dragged a few friends along with me, and enjoyed it, having free drinks all night :)
after about 3-4 months of going (3 times a week)
a bluelighter and i had a huge converstaion about e's.
i had never taken anything b4, and was against dope, from former yars (but thats a different story)
and was finally convinced to TRY a half.
it was probably the most enjoyable night i have ever had at billboards.
I do not regret taking that first one, that lead to many more, nor dislike the person that offered it to me, im jus glad that they were there to help me throught the process, and watch over me, and always make it clear that--
** THE MUSIC COMES FIRST !!! **
(u know who u guys are. and thankyou).

The muzik!
I got into techno in 97.
Heard the odd rave track (and loved them) until I went to my first rave in April 01.
Dropped my first proton energy pill in June 01.

Neither the drugs nor the music. If I had to choose between the two then it would probably be the drugs that initially got me into dance music proper. I would say what actually got me out was just being social. I just like to be out and had heard good things about people at dance parties/raves and off I went!
Was into acid for quite a while before I was into any of it bu yeah, I'd have to say the people brought me out.
I enjoy good music a great deal now but a lot of people who "go out for the music" get into really dickhead conversations about how much they know about the music. I still dont' believe it is about one specific thing.
A dance party is about all of it specifically.

The men in the village said you had a car...
They are such comedians!
They were probably talking about Pepe, my little mule!

The music,i went to clubs and stuff straight for quite awhile and enjoyed it emensely. Then one night a friend gave me some speed and i was like, where have you been all my life!So yeah the music came first and its still priority one in my book but ill have to admit the focus has shifted a little :)
