Lately I've been trying to eat my meals at my kitchen table more often. I try to spice it up a little by putting on some music or looking out the window.

There's probably a lot of obvious health benefits to doing this. In the past I tend to eat at my computer, on my couch, in my bed, or in my car. While you can't avoid this at all times, I think it's good for your mental health at the very least to have a meal sitting at a table (or at least free from distraction) once in awhile.

What about eating outside? Picnics are fun, and give you a chance to enjoy your food without the distraction of the computer, tv, etc.

Thoughts?

Historically, if the weather is good, we'll eat alfresco (much more since moving to a consistently warmer place). We have a nice outdoor area with a table and chairs. We'll generally eat meals outside, as it just feels nicer. In colder weather, we will eat inside, sometimes at the table, and sometimes at the coffee table in the lounge. I'm generally a floor-sitter by nature, so like sitting low to eat. I know that sitting up (not slouching on a couch) is far better for your digestion (as is not going to bed straight after a meal).

I love love love picnics :D

Yea, depends on the weather.

If it's warm, we will sit outside under the gazebo while watching TV through the projector. If it's winter though, we usually sit at the bar but sometimes the kitchen table/bench.

i used to eat my bagels on the toilet in high school cuz the cafeteria was always full and i had no place to sit.
lol remember they were so dry ill choke a bit so ill run to the sink and drink water so i can swallow. good times !

We usually sit at our dining table but sometimes eat in front of the TV which I really don't like, I like eating meals at a proper table and having a chat and not have the TV on preferably.

I'm awful at work as I often eat at my desk. I really think people need to stop and have a break to eat their meals, have a bit of a laugh with whoever they're eating with and really make the meal an experience.

So you were that kid..... haha

When my better half is with me we sit at the table to eat (sometimes without the TV on, but I have a thing for documentaries =\), but when I'm home alone I eat in front of the computer either surfing or watching a show or something. Usually the TV is just background noise, or a conversation topic giver unless it is something really interesting.

I really like picnics too...we have a perfect area along the river here where you can lay out a blanket, bring along some wine, salads, and meats. Set up the grill, open the wine, and enjoy =)

At work, I usually eat outside in the smoking area, although I'm not a smoker myself. Sometimes I eat in my truck and listen to music. At home,i usually eat in my room while watching tv. If I'm running late for work, I'll eat standing in front of the island in the kitchen.

When I'm home alone, I sit at the snack bar in our kitchen and eat. I make it a point to at least eat one meal out there, as it's been a very bad habit over the years to eat in my room while on the computer or watching TV. When I'm not home alone, I'm pretty much stuck with eating in my room if I want to enjoy the meal. When I'm at work, I eat at my desk or out in the courtyard at a table on good weather days.

If i'm at work I eat in my truck parked in the way back of the property. If I don't then other people bother me about work shit. At home I prefer to eat in my room while on the computer/watching tv...

I find it more mentally (and gastronomically) positive to have a meal with people than alone. Speaking while I eat tends to slow down the rate at which I eat which seems to improve digestion and prevents eating until full. Sitting down to eat is the only time a lot of people seem to even have for a conversation, so it always turns into a good stress reliever for everyone to be able to vent a bit and just wind down.

I eat standing up, pacing back and forth. Regardless of if it's healthy, I just can't sit still. When I do sit to eat a meal, I'm cramming it down my throat so I can hurry up and go do other shit.

i used to set everything up, make a proper meal, eat on the table with the tv off and stuff. Since i "broke up" with my family i eat inside the fridge and get the f' out of the kitchen as fast as i can.

I noticed if I am thinking of other things, I barley taste the food. Sometimes I like to sit alone in the kitchen and ask myself what the food actually tastes like before each bite, and try to pick apart all the different flavors that are coming together as I eat, especially If I am eating something I made.

Other times I like to go to a huge food court I live by because it is always filled with so many busy people and doctors getting their lunch that it gives me a cool feeling of being completely alone and able to have a private moment while at the same time being in a huge crowd. Watching all the movement I always tend to dissociate a little bit

Sometimes I get a slice of pizza and eat it while walking down the street in super busy urban areas. Thats always fun because I feel myself functioning as an image of the super sped up times we live in.

Euphoria, and others trying to break old habits, how goes it?

I can't wait until the weather warms up so I can eat in our unheated "patio room" as some may call it. :D

Lately it is front of the computer or tv. I prefer dining at the table.
Music definitely helps while cooking or doing chores I don't wanna do.

this is quite sub-optimal:

breakfast - my desk at work
lunch - my desk at work
dinner - my table at home
second dinner - my bed

ah fuck im turning british...
