mdb, i didnt know that about ronnie osullivan. i mean i knew about his past, just always thought snooker was his ticket back.
Snooker was like his tormentor and outlet at the same time. If he couldn't play anything less than perfect snooker all the time his temprament would crumble. He missed the whole of the season last year, only deciding very late on to play in the world championships. Of course he won, beat everyone easily. I find this inspring that someone with massive mental health problems can achieve such great suceess despite his torments.
Didnt you know he was bipolar. During some of his matches you could see the guy disintegrate right before you, he would wear a a towel over his head as he felt so ill he didnt want the TV camers on him, on one occasion like when he couldnt pot a ball and got slowly beaten by a player no where near his class in the form of Graham Dott, that should have been another world championship for Ronnie but his head had gone. He was in so much mental pain he was scratching at his face and almost drawing blood. Then ofcourse he just walked out about 3 frames into a match with Hendry as he attempted an over ambiutious shot, fucked it up, so shoock Hendry's hand and walked out the arena. That was in the UK championships.
I used to think ROS was a bit of an arsehole but after reading his autobiography I feel like i know him, and my heart goes out to him every time i see him. 5 world championships under his belt with all that hes been through. Plus his prime years were also the prime years of John Higgins and Mark Williams, two formidabbly brilliant champions. Davis and Hendry never had quite such tough consistent competition during their hay days..

This still makes me smile.

I wish Mugz was still here to talk about snooker with. I remember some pics he posted of himself going to watch the UK championships dressed as a jester. Presumably he supported the Jester from Leicester; Mark Selby. Mugz didnt do things by halves did he.

Most of my support went to Alex Higgins. Jimmy White & Ronnie were the natural successors to become the "peoples champions". Its all about style and those guys had/have bags of it.
Alex Higgins was the best player on earth when pissed out of his head. Heres the evidence:

Higgins had more than his fair share of problems too. Mostly in the form of Steve Davis.
