Whats YOUR career path?

I'm currently doing construction, remodel and painting. It's cool, I'm learning a ton, and I like having a tangible result of my work at the end of the day.

My work history is all over the place though: restaurant (foh and boh), retail sales, landscaping, moving, route driver, customer service, non-profit work, logistics, data analysis, executive assistant, warehouse work, phone op, dispatch... I need to pick something and stick with it.
 
Wishing I could find a job, becoming desperate.. moved to a new state and don't have any references. I got a job lined up this summer as a TA at an art academy though, which is the direction I want to go career wise. Hopefully once I transfer from the butt-plug of a cc I'm in now to a real university this will start looking up
 
35 years old. Took a career break for 9 years to spend time enjoying/bringing up my kids (wisdom, you see). I'm due to launch my own e-commerce biz, I'm hoping I don't have to work for anyone again.
 
I've been in the software development since I was 24 but did network admin work for AT&T when I was 21. Dropped college for the cash moneys and wish I hadn't but at the same time my experience gets me gigs over the college guys.

I've worked side by side with PhDs in comp sci and math and its not worth it if software development is what you plan to do. They make more but only like $15ish k more. Sometimes less.

I really want to break into bioinformatics where there is less competition and wayyyyy more interesting.
 
What did you do for software development? Was it theory/planning based or were you right in with design or implementation of software?

Did you need any programming knowledge for your position?
 
Spent years after highschool enrolling and dropping out of courses, getting addicted to many different things, but mainly just trying to find myself. I start a Lit. course in a month.

When I was in CS at university, I had a lot of friends in bioinformatics (we had 3 of the same courses, they just had 2 science courses when I had 2 electives). They are in their fifth year of university now and finding that there are TONS of interesting jobs. One of my friends just switched into bioinformatics (from CS) and he only has to do one extra semester of courses. He says it is a lot more interesting that just programming. I don't know anything about the science side of things though ... biology isn't really my thing lol.
 
I'm working as a bank teller right now and I really enjoy many aspects about the small banking industry and my job alike. I know it doesn't sound like much of a career path at the moment (even though I am making decent money for my age and getting full benefits),but all the higher ups in my particular bank started off as tellers and whenever I'm ready to go back to school I plan to take classes related to banking and as long as I keep my grades at a C or above my company will reimburse me for my courses. Basically my career path at this time is to move up within the bank. I'm still in my early 20s so I have some time to let some things fall into place.
 
i have no fucking idea currently but if someone could tell me the following before i follow up w/others later that'd be great
-HOW MUCH COMPLICATED MATH OR CHEMISTRY WOULD A RESEARCH PSYCHOLOGIST NEED TO DO/LEARN
-ARE THERE ANY VIABLE CAREERS WITH A FASHION RELATED DEGREE WITHOUT ALSO A BUSINESS DEGREE
-IF I DO A SHORT TERM COURSE TO GET INTO THE JOB FIELD QUICKLY DOING SOMETHING SOUL SUCKING I WILL THEN NO LONGER BE ABLE TO GET A PELL GRANT SO IT'LL BE STUDENT LOANS AND THEN THAT WILL SUCK BUT THIS IS PRACTICAL AND SMART FOR A BROKEASS MOTHERFUCKER, YES?
-ARE THERE JOB OPPORTUNITIES FOR FASHION DEGREE STUDENTS IN PACIFIC NORTHWEST OF USA AND NOT JUST NEW YORK AND LA

I work in security but want to run my own farm, critters and all! It's just a job to help me pay for my dream. Already have land and a house, just need infrastructure (fences, barns) and animals. Already do veggie gardening. Chickens for eggs are on the schedule for this year. :D
 
FYI, typing in all caps is both annoying and unnecessary. It's like yelling at someone standing in front of you.

I assume that as a research psychologist, your bread and butter would be statistics.

This question ^ is confusing. The Pell Grant is need-based so it depends on how much you make at the soul sucking job. And yes, sometimes student loans are a necessary evil.

Youd have to take first year chemistry and statistics course. Like 2 or 3 stats courses over 4 years for a bachelors, which is nothing. Maybe one first year calculus course.
 
I'm 29 (soon to be 30). I am going into academics, been in school most of my life (college straight into grad school then a postdoc). I hope my first academic position is a keeper but I might have to move around. We will see.
 
i'm marketing for a nonprofit organization that does workforce development. media relations, collateral, website, social media, e/mail campaigns, and so on. i use an external design firm, but write all the copy.

it's not bad. i believe in what the organization does. i've been at it for about one and a half years now. although it's a significant transition, i think i'm developing some of the experience and skills that will later allow me to work up to an editor or director position with a fashion/art/lit publication.
 
28 next year, currently studying an MA in Landscape Architecture. I don't really mind what I end up doing in the profession so long as it's 9-5 and allows me to keep a roof over my head, feeds me, and keeps my brain active through being at least slightly creative. What I would love though is within the next 10-20 years there's a massive cultural and economic shift, for the better, where people from my profession work along side those in other professions like agriculture, architecture, engineering, planning, politics etc to create the kind of landscapes we so desperately need in this world. That's one of the reasons why I decided on this career path because I'm predicting a shift in the zeitgeist in that direction. I mean it's either that or we continue as we are and smash straight into a brick wall at 200mph haha.
 
^I think that landscape architecture is at a very exciting place right now--everything from replacing lawns to living rooftops to wildlife corridors through urban areas. Designing with plants is a delicious medium!
 
Damn how times change. Im almost 22 now and have completely changed my life goals by now. Not planning on enlisting. I want to be a painter/interior designer but mostly painting. Ive got a good amount of experience painting my gparents house and a few rooms including bathoom, living room and hallway. Its a good paying job and if i m my own boss there is nothing better than that! Hopefully it all goes according to plan!
 
Literally no idea. I'm a Biology student, wanted to do medicine, but I'm not sure now, nothing seems to interest me. I'm sort of exploring nursing, becoming a paramedic or pursuing further education after my degree. Right now I'd love some part time work because I need the experience and money, but it's a vicious cycle - without experience, I'm not getting any jobs (in a big student city where a lot of people have some experience), but how do I get experience?

Other than that, I do some volunteer work, but I'm not sure that's really related to my career.
