What's the simplest psychoactive molecule?

I think people have covered most of them, shall we move onto simple Hydrocarbons that are psychoactive? Ethanol (CH3-CH2-OH) is pretty simple. My answer was gonna be N2O but that's been used quite a lot.

^ Isopropanol made me feel like shite warmed up (using it as a solvent for one of the naphthoylindole cannabinoids) - can't say anything about propanol though.

n-Butanol would be funny - make you smell of rancid butter for a hangover

Isopropanol is about 2x as potent as ethanol as a CNS depressant. It does not cause life-threatening side effects but it's metabolized to acetone, which has CNS depressant effects in it's own right (and will make you smell like fruit)

By this logic, you'll have to admit Lithium salts to this club.

ebola

yeah, but lithium salts are all more complex, at least the commerical ones like lithium citrate, sulfate, asparate, ect...they are alot more then 2 atoms, aint they?

but I would pesonally admit KBr NaBr and any 2 atom lithium salt to the club, they are indeed physoactive molecules...prodrugs do count.

I'm sure no one will argue that Codeine, Carisporidol, Diacetylmorphine, Oxycodone, ect are not real drugs, just because they are prodrugs for morphine/meprobamate/morphine again/oxymorphone.

So IMHO the simple salts of bromine and lithium would be the simplest physoactive drugs, albeit with bromides having a faster adn more obvious physoactive effect then lithium.

^ Lets make it interesting then..... lithium bromide. ;)

Two atoms, two shitty "drugs" with nasty effects for the price of one. We have a winner!!!

Chlorobutanol and 2-methyl-2-butanol are relatively simple, and look far more appealing than n-butanol...

Sulfonomethane looks like some nasty stuff...

I forgot about 1,4-BD...

Isn't acetone somewhat toxic though? I dunno if I'd want to fuck around with that...

Diethyl ether. CH3CH2OCH2CH3 A pretty simple compound there. Though obviously not the simplest psychoactive molecule, my money for that would probably be on Nitrous Oxide.

You've tried it? I'm kind of curious as to how it compares to alcohol. It doesn't appear to be that much more dangerous in terms of toxicology (acetone itself isn't that potent of a toxin).

I've tried it too (IPA), you need about half as much as you do ethanol, but it tastes pretty damn horrible (mind you I think the same of ethanol, though it's not as bad).
It feels inferior, less euphoria, more un-coordination, toxic feeling, breath constantly smells of acetone which is not a good look, I don't dig the solvent-huffer aroma (ether is far worse for this :P that was kinda funny though, and a lot more fun, IPA was just yuck and not all that fun).

^Based upon how it smells and tastes in minute (accidental) amounts, I assume that quantitative amounts would taste like the inside of a monkey's asshole. The whole thing sounds like a vomit-a-thon waiting to happen (I think iPrOH is known to induce severe projectile vomiting).
