Ooft, I thought it had kind of calmed down as well, in a 'Putin's claimed Crimea and there's fuck all anyone can do about it so it's time to start working with it' kind of way.
The Guardian (which used to be my main news source) are still printing propaganda -
"Crimea's referendum was a sham display of democracy" - Which, of course, it was but no mention of what lead up to it - A violent, US/EU sponsored coup of a democratically elected leader. Where was the democracy there? And in the dozens of other countries they've tried the same thing. (Yes, I'm aware that he was corrupt as all fuck but so? That makes it OK to sponsor a coup? No)
Can't say I'd argue with Putin here either -

Putin aired a list of foreign policy grievances going back to 2000, saying "we were cheated again and again, with decisions being taken behind our back", and insisted that it was ludicrous to claim the precedent of Kosovo – which was recognised by the west as an independent country following its secession from Serbia – as unique.
"How would our colleagues claim its uniqueness? It turns out because during the Kosovo conflict there were many human casualties. What, is that supposed to be a valid legal argument?" he asked.
The sanctions applied by the EU & US have been an absolute joke as well. They've barred like 20 cunts from travelling. Oh no. They must be regretting it all now and wishing they'd stayed clear of Ukraine, I'm sure...
They had a list of about 120 people to apply sanctions to. Whittled down to ~20. No doubt after a round of "Oh don't sanction him, he's my mate" "Don't sanction him, that'll hurt my business" etc.
I don't really know what "the west" hope to achieve now. There's absolutely no way Russia is going to back down here and the EU are hardly going to shout FUCK IT WORLD WAR 3 LETS GO!!!, are they?
Edit - John Kerry. Mileout as usual.
US secretary of state John Kerry, who is speaking at a town hall, says that Russia’s actions are “as egregious as any step I can think of taken by a country in today’s world” and that President Putin’s speech today was an attempt to “rewrite history” and that it “doesn’t jive with reality” and “only further put him on the wrong side of history”.
What he should have done is sneakily overthrow the government and install a puppet, eh Kerry? The US are so fucking shameless it's ridiculous. Do they think people aren't aware of the shit they do?
I do realise that some of my posts come across as BOO America YAY Russia lol, but I should point out I'm no fan of the way Russia treat their citizens etc, just that I'm even less a fan of the utter hypocrisy from everyone else.
