Just pondering this and wondering why my ex was so violent, and all I can think of is that he was terribly frightened by possibility of me being "above" him in any way, even just in trivial contexts like me winning scrabble or (very occasionally)me winning chess.
He wasn a bad sport with his mates, ever. But he was genuinely terrified of me having an advantage or a win, and he worked so hard at always being in control - he didn't just "decide" stuff as it came along. Rather he had this distinctly male way of tricking me into a vague "vibe" that even if I occasionally got to decide which film to watch, this was only because he had generously "decided that I could make a decision".
