Swiss Army Man (2016) ... 10/10 best movie I have seen in my entire life..

I was half way through 200ug LSD 25 and a liter bottle of nitrous oxide when this movie randomly came on. I decided to watch it. It turned out to be the most impactful movie experiences I've ever had in my life.

This movie is so incredibly beautiful and touching on an existential level. It instantly became one of my favorite movies of all time.

The trailer doesn't give you any idea what the movie is actually about. Nor does the first 20 minutes of the film. At face value, it seems like some absurdist buddy comedy laced with fart jokes and sophomoric humor... but its so much more than that.

The plot is actually incredibly dark in nature, but still somehow manages to be beautiful, heartwarming, meaningful and even cute and funny. Which is really an accomplishment of filmmaking when you realize what the plot actually is. On top of that, the movie is incredibly trippy to watch, especially during the peak. One of the most psychedelic movies I've ever seen, but not in the way you expect.

About half way through the movie my jaw was agape, my eyes were watering, and I could only think of telling others how amazing this movie is. It's a fucking experience, especially on psychedelics.

However, if graphic depictions of suicide, delusional psychosis, near death scenarios, fear, anxiety, etc might cause you to have a bad trip then you may want to watch it sober. Although, I would implore you to face those feelings during a trip because that's sort of the point of the movie.

I cannot recommend this movie enough. Please watch it. Seriously. And don't let the idea of fart jokes dissuade you. Its so much more than that. The movie is much more of a serious drama than some fart comedy.

Why this movie didn't win all the Oscar's is beyond fucking me. I generally dislike Harry Potter as an actor, but he works very well here. I also think Paul Dano's performance solidifies him as one of the top actors of his generation.

Please go watch it. It is currently streaming free on Tubi and Youtube Movies.

Haven't seen it in a long time ,going to watch it again tonight

Eyes Wide Shut (1999)

Finally got a good copy of this film with the new Criterion 4K release. Soooo much better than the old Blu-ray. I’ve never seen a film that touches me on the matters of monogamy and marriage quite so deep, save for maybe Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Anyways, fantastic film. Really fantastic release. I wish Kubrick was still alive, and we could get some real answers from him regarding that last film. Really makes you wonder. The trauma of marriage and love and lust is something I think any married person can identify with, and this film was a fitting end to Kubrick’s career in my opinion.

Out of Africa (1985)

I didn’t realize when I ordered both of these films as pre-orders that the former starred Sydney Pollock and the latter was directed by him. Really gave me a laugh when I was tripping balls last night.

Anyhow, another fantastic 4K upgrade from the Blu-ray. One of my favorite films in many regards.

All in all a fun night capped off with me being so drunk I fell asleep on the couch.

I much preferred his "moon landing" film.
My favorite Kubrick film is A Clockwork Orange. But sometimes it's hard to decide. 2001: A Space Odyssey last I watched it made me question the reality of the Apollo missions. In Barry Lyndon, the Prussian officer is played by an actual Nazi SS member from the war. I mean every frickin' film goes deep.

I've always felt a bit odd about Lolita though. Hasn't aged well but isn't a bad film. I dunno.

it's so visually lush too. i love the way the ballroom scene is lit and shot.
I think my favorite scene is the one at the mansion, for the same reason I think most people still reference the film to this day :ROFLMAO:

There weren't any Apollo missions, so questioning them is understandable. lol

If the Apollo missions were not real then the USSR would not have stopped their efforts to having a manned mission to the moon. They were most definitely watching and tracking these missions and would have called out the US if they even suspected that they were not real. This would have been a great accomplishment for them and a chance to prove that Communism was the best form of government.

I do believe this is the best point I have ever come across regarding the fake/no fake moon landing.
Kudos.

May (2002) - 4.5 stars - love this weird, kinda, pseudo-quasi reimagining of Frankenstein. May has a lazy eye and has to wear an eyepatch as a kid which leads to the other children ostracising her and calling her a pirate. Her mom gives her a porcelain dolly, Suzy, which she is not even allowed to take out of her glass box, but which becomes May's only friend resulting in her growing into a very awkward and lonely adult. She see's beauty in everyone, but only certain parts - "So many perfect parts, no perfect wholes" - a boyfriends hands, her co-workers neck...As she desperately tries to form a meaningful connection with anyone, she remembers what her mom used to tell her: "If you can't find a friend, make one" and takes that advice very literally.
Really enjoyed this movie. It had a perfect balance of horror, dark comedy and genuinely dark moments. The worsening of the cracking in the glass of Suzy's box and the movie goes on is an excellent metaphor for May's fracturing psyche. And Angela Bettis is 10/10 at playing the adorable-lonely-awkward-weirdo. She also played Carrie in the Carrie remake which came out the same year. THAT movie was pretty bad, but her performance was excellent.

Top Quotes:

May: You know when you meet someone...and you think you like them?...But then the more you talk to them, you see parts you don't like...and sometimes, you don't end up liking any parts at all.

Polly: We should hang out some time. Eat some mellons.

Blank: [Opens May's freezer and see's a dead, mummified cat]
May: So are we like, best friends, now that you've seen what's inside my freezer?

[May works as a vet]
Adam: What are you reading about?
May: Amputation
Adam: For work?
May: No, just for fun
