🌟🌟 Social 🌟🌟 What's the last film you saw? v. Why doesn’t Peter Jackson wear shoes?

Stanley Kubrick made only a handful of movies. Most are cinematic masterpieces, this is one of them.

something on which we can absolutely agree!

my personal favourite is eyes wide shut. it is a visual treat.

i think his best film is barry lyndon - it is a cinematic masterpiece.

i also love paths of glory and 2001.

You ever seen this before? I saw it when it first came out, it's pretty interesting how anal, not sexually;), but how picky he was about pretty much every aspect of his life and his movies.
Here's the YT link

Yes I have it on blu-ray and have seen several times. You are right about Kubrick.
One major issue was him finding the right screenplay which could take many years.
Then once he had it, he was known to have shot at least one movie scene well over 100 times.
He would take so many takes of scenes and drive the cast nuts.
I don't know, but I am guessing editing was a nightmare with him involved.
But the sad part was that his last movie, Eyes Wide Shut was mediocre and Tom Cruise added to problems( he sucks as an actor and a person, sad but true)
That movies plot, could have been good, but the writing and Tom Cruises pathetic overacting caused it to not be what could have been.

I just got done trashing Eyes Wide Shut, lol. But my main issues were Tom Cruise, and the writing. I love the concept, of the lead actor infiltrating a illuminati esque Secret Society, but the movie was not as good as it could have been.
I am mad that concept or plot was great, but poorly executed.
I have wanted to see Barry Lyndon for decades.
The Shining is the greatest horror movie, with the possible exception of Jaws.
The reason, my family ( both sides) is from a nice New Jersey suburb of Philly.
The Jersey shore beaches, I went to as a kid looked so much like the ones in Jaws. I am scared of the Ocean because of Jaws.

I loved eyes wide shut one of his best
No it wasn't ok it was in his top 10 🤣🤣
Tom Cruise's horrible acting and the story fell short. Even Kubrick knew the movie sucked and he died before it's release,
and took forever to shoot.
Why, Tom Cruise and a great plot with mediocre writing.

The Shining, 2001, and Full Metal Jacket, are my favorites. Also some of if not his best work

Barry Lyndon, I was going to rent it in college( vhs) back in the nineties but I was scared of how long it is. It is considered a great movie and I might have to buy a copy at one of the two places I buy used dvds and blu-rays.
I will have buy it, because I don't like or even get regular or cable TV.

2001 and a clockwork orange are my fav Kubrick movies
I can't believe I forgot A Clockwork Orange. I bought a copy for a film class on vhs and watched it 4 times as the Professor said.
I love that movie and that is how I really started to take notice of directors and screenplays.
I had seen and loved 2001, but I didn't think about directors when I was young.

for me eyes wide shut is all about how it looks. every single scene is a lighting engineer's wet dream.

do yourself a favour and watch barry lyndon.

I really never paid attention to that aspect of the Movie. Honestly, I just don't like Tom Cruise, but maybe I will have to get a copy, and maybe I wanted more from this legendary director. He took forever and died before it was released.
Maybe I give it another watch if I can find it.

I went grocery shopping and then went too one of the places that sells used dvds and blu-rays cheap.

I found an unopened factory sealed, new Bone chilling horror 10- movie collection. It had several movies I have wanted to see. $10.60 total with tax.

The first one I just got done watching was The Ring. Which was well shot and the atmospheric thriller type cinematography was great.

However, I found the moving lacking in other areas, such as it wasn't scary, nor really very good.

I am very much aware that this is a remake of a Japanese horror film.

My question is; is the original as good as I have been told? To anyone who has seen the original; can you tell me if it is worth my time, effort and money too find the Japanese original version and does it have subtitles?
