I think if I know you well enough, you'll enjoy. Just don't go in thinking "ok this is going to be a srs piece of brilliant story telling".

Colonia

Set on the back drop of the 1973 Chilean political coup, Emma Watson does this and that to find her boyfriend. The end. Sad, it could've been a great film. The cinematography was good, but the story was a bit ridiculous, even if it really DID happen. The film focused entirely too much on the wrong aspect of that crisis imo.

yea Birdman is worth watching regardless if the story is absurd.

A Separation

not sure this movie deserved the accolades and approval rating it received however its an interesting dialogue driven film about an Iranian family dealing with a variety of issues; all of them ignited because the mother of the family wants to leave Iran. some aspects of the film could only happen in a muslim family but how the divorce is affecting the young daughter could happen to anyone.

I'll give the film a B doubleplus

watched Never Let Me Go recently, its a decent film.

Friends Kathy (Carey Mulligan), Tommy (Andrew Garfield) and Ruth (Keira Knightley) grow up together at a seemingly idyllic boarding school in the English countryside. When they leave the school and the horrible truth of their true purpose is revealed to them, they must simultaneously confront deep-seated feelings of love, jealousy and betrayal that threaten to tear their friendship asunder.

i saw the coen brother's latest film 'hail caesar' at the cinema. it was wonderful, the characters are likeable, clooney was perfect in his role, usual high quality of cinema, and lots of laughs. highly recommend.

good call m8. its two hours of your life you will never get back. in my case, i tried watching it a couple times bc i kept hearing how great it was. so i lost a total of 3 to 4 hours of jammin time. no bueno.

watched a flick called boy wonder on netflix. kind of a vigilante movie of sorts. kind of a decent b movie and a tad predictable but pretty entertaining and good acting. liked one of the later scenes and how it worked out. its only 90 min long which i loved. really hate how long it takes to tell a story (with pictures) these days. would recommend if you are just looking for something casual to watch.

anyone ever seen longmire on netflix? my pops loves it but we don't always enjoy the same things lol. i generally avoid cop shows but heard it was good.
 
I loved Never Let Me Go... and I am NOT a lovey dovey person. But it had just enough dystopian feel to it to send it over the edge.

Recently watched A Prophet... such an excellent film. Does anyone have any other prison movie recommendations? I've seen several but I'm hoping there's some gem out there I haven't found.
 
I found It Follows to be super creepy and much better than I had anticipated.

It seems like some people gave it really bad reviews, but I thought it was good. I also had no knowledge of the plot or basically anything to do with the movie and I had really low expectations, so that made it easier to make an impression on me.
 
I watched Once Upon a Time in America earlier.

Such a classic film.

Pacino will always be one my fav actors
 
It Follows

a poor The Ring ripoff. while The Ring is certainly not the first nor a deep movie, it is a cool iteration of the concept of disease spreading through media. doesn't work as well when what spreads the curse is sex. too literal to be an allegory, not that it's trying. i liked the idea of something slowly pursuing its victims without pause -- almost like it's ripping on all the michael myers-esque movie monsters. but it doesn't stick with that; the monster transports. so it's just another.


Heaven Knows What

in many regards a lesser Requiem for a Dream -- which is how it's marketed -- but worth watching. about love trumped by consumption. and/or it's about unrequited love. has some true grit like Kids, which Requiem lacks. well casted. the only thing that shines is the lead, arielle holmes. felt that way even before i knew she wrote the memoir it's based on.

The Babadook

horror movies in general are terrible -- the few that are worthwhile skirt the genre -- so after a couple of years of hearing this one was truly scary i wanted to see if it defied the odds. it doesn't. more stamped out garbage targeting teenagers who go to the movies at the mall. only it lacks jump scares, which often do get me, so it's even worse. i would have never guessed it was popular among fans of the genre. it has this drawn out ending that seemed like it was setting up for something creepy, but instead it spends more time making no sense.


Sixteen Candles

surprisingly bad and fucked up. all the characters are annoying, horrible people. at one point a jock trades his passed out girlfriend to a nerd for the scoop on another girl, and the nerd takes her to his friend's house for photos before driving her to a parking lot where they both wake up the next day not knowing what happened -- presented as charming, silly humor.


The Fundamentals of Caring

cheesy and bland even for feel-good porn.

ID: Resurgence

I saw this in 2d and im going back to see it in 3d. After seeing so many movies in three d that were just not worth it i think this may be one people will be glad of the 3d.

Story line was almost the same as the original so it ends up being super predictable. 3 out of five in 2d.
 
Tangerine

worthwhile style and pretty well put together. new wave americana. reminds me a lot of the film photography i’ve been seeing on social media like tumblr and instagram. and of indie short films from early 2000ish when the internet had created a new line of distribution. car wash scene is the best. while it’s primarily atmosphere over content, it has a basic message about the value of even imperfect friendship and inconsistent kindness in an adverse environment.

Green Room

A pretty gory and intense look at the underground skin head culture.

It seemed like a Yank version of Romper Stomper.

Worth watching, if not for the gore, then for the insight into the red laces, and metal bands living on the cusp of poverty for their art.

it does have a Gattaca feel to it. id try to read the book if you get a chance. for some reason the movie left out integral parts of the story. every time i try to say something positive about this book it just seems to minimize how good it is. i guess one aspect that is impressive is how the author created a 'female voice' for the narrator and you never really question if a female is speaking. its a very deep and somber story which makes you question the meaning of a lot of things. Are the clones any less human than everyone else? What is the significance of art? i'll stop before i sound too melodramatic but its a coming-of-age story as well. :)
