I saw Dallas Buyer's Club and really enjoyed it. Matthew M deserved the Oscar IMO.

That's the next movie I want to watch. I've been hearing great things and I've loved Leto ever since I saw him in Requiem For a Dream. Mcconaughey is actually awesome too, and I didn't realize it because he used to only make these dumb ass romantic comedies. But with Dallas Buyers Club and his show True Detective, he's the real deal.

I really need to rewatched Buyer's Club. I don't even remember Jared Leto being in it. I just remember Amy Adams and Christian Bale. I can't recall what sort of state I watched it in, but will watch it sober this time.

I think you're thinking of American Hustle, which would easily explain the lack of Jared Leto.

I think he's still on it.

:D

Do you at least remember Jonah Hill's role?

Girl, Interrupted

i really like winona ryder. i put off watching this movie because it's what i was expecting. it has a weird feel to it. like Forrest Gump. not just because of the amazing soundtrack. it's trying to be grandiose, but its story is meek. people often jump on these movies as great, like Forrest Gump, but i guess this one doesn't quite hit the mark. i think it qualifies as a chick flick. it makes a point to quickly throw away male characters. angelina jolie in her character is extremely attractive. huge rings under her eyes every time they bring her in again. her looking through the cell window at winona is a great shot. the movie does an ok job of personifying the love affair with mental illness in angelina, giving her so much of that appeal. much like high fashion is eaten up because it openly glamorizes what is wrong.

winona and angelina's relationship is the best part of the movie. the second half is much better than the first. the fingernail painting is a nice reprise.

^girl interrupted is one of my all time fave movies and that is due to Angelina's portrayal. Now that you have mentioned it I think I should watch it again.

I should also watch Gravity since that's the only movie I havent watched that Ive downloaded.

Saw this movie called Megan is missing last night and it was sort of disturbing.. I liked it though I know it got negative reviews but what the heck

Carrie (1976)

the entire movie is to see her haunting walk down from the stage with the curtains burning in the background. this movie is superior to its remake. it is unpleasant to watch. it incorporates the bright, 70s film aesthetic, but the feel is plastic not fun. it is trying for the mix of daylight and smiley life scenes to give contrast to its horror. it's starch, plot-forwarding scenes leading into successfully dark but in result uncomfortable horror scenes. her freaking out in the shower is successful horror, but i'm never gonna watch that again. the weekend cruising scene with travolta must be the inspiration for Dazed and Confused's. or maybe that was a thing in 70s film. so, the movie is uncomfortable in a way that i think a lot of horror fans like. i don't. sissy spacek is beautiful and disturbing. as said, her almost floating off stage makes the movie. oh, sue approaching the grave in her white dress is cool as well. reminds me of Phenomena. there is a bit of argento-esque lighting throughout the film.

Carrie (2013)

in this one carrie actually does float off stage. spacek's carrie is haunting. chloë is cute. doesn't work as well. it makes the movie much more watchable. it's not disturbing. it's nothing. part of what makes carrie's exit so great in the '76 version is that she leaves everyone to burn. and they do. chloë lets them out; that's not horror. julianne moore does make me uncomfortable as the mother, but she's out of place and working in too weak a setting.

i had blinders on while watching the '76 version first and was just waiting for the big scene, so it took me a while to catch on that the two popular girls are working independently of each other and sue actually is trying to do something good. the 2013 version really beats this point. this film is pg-13, kid-targeted high school scenes leading into weak, cg horror that earn its R rating only through staying reasonably true to the original. chloë doesn't make a fool of herself or anything. she's just miscast. she can play a female horror role; it has to be doll-like. she looks great in her pretty dress with the blood running down through her eye. carrie is spectral. sissy is. chloë isn't.

My girlfriend and I watched Passion of The Christ for the first time last night. Brutal movie, but really good.

There's a new Jesus movie out now too. Son of God, I think it's called? Got shitty reviews. The Noah's Arc movie with Russell Crow looks good though.

Better Living through Chemistry, which further solidifies my lust for both Sam Rockwell and Olivia Wilde.

(wasn't there a movie about raves or something with the same name a long time ago? or I am a dummy?)

Just finished watching 47 Ronin and yeahhh not the best movie but I still enjoyed watching it.

The Cabin in the Woods

Quite possibly one of the worst films I've seen in years. I mean, it's up there with Sharknado. What drives me crazy is how everyone else seems to absolutely love this movie, I guess I'm just not "getting it". Teeny bopper acting, cliche'd characters, a spooky score picked up from a stock room somewhere, a script that reads like it was written by two stoners in a high school algebra class and terrible CGI. I don't get it.

Not a movie obviously, but this HBO stunner is really impressing me so far.

^ Why post it in here then? There is a thread for the show not far down the list (maybe you didnt notice?)

Yeah it's great, shame it's finished for the season.

Yes I will times 3 this. Im glad you and maya think the same, I thought it was so average and I really struggled to get through it all. Then reading some people say it was awesome and some people saying it's a classic and up their with the best I was like - wtf? I dont get it, why?

I've also been meaning to see that for years. Not disappointed eh? I shall make it more of a priority!

Tonight either Mission Impossible 3 (that mission is possible), The Thin Red Line, or All the Presidents Men
