taking it for what it is, hell yes. it is a perfect comic book adaptation. utterly flawless in its scope and execution (pun intended). it doesn't try to be too clever, the story is simple, but solid. it is shot atmospheric, and it oozed simple tension. the gore is amazing in how accurate it is to the comics. they pulled no punches. the 3D was really good too.

i didn't intend to see it, but i had the time and money to kill today. i am so glad i did.

Outsourced (2006). Good film. Funny, and I learned a lot. ;)

I really enjoyed that movie. I found it interesting and enjoyable as a light-hearted rom-com.

If you liked that you might also like Sunshine Cleaning (2008 ). It's slightly darker, but has a similar type feel

Not bad.

^is that you, tom? ;)

anyways, not out here till feb. :! dunno if i will wait that long.

the cabin in the woods was far better than it sounds. heaps fun and quite original.

Agreed. Whedon has A LOT of potential as a film maker. Cabin is his best work yet. I've always thought he was really talented despite his penchant for the lowest common denominator.

i've also really enjoyed that movie, mainly because i knew fuck all about it going in aside that it was a horror movie and its title, so i figured i was in for some generic, bad evil dead rehash. retrospectively i was really glad that my expectations were so very low.

And Your Name Is Jonah (1979)

Excellent film. Very much a tearjerker. Portrays the stigma surrounding deafness very well. Give it a shot if you like movies relating to children. Short synopsis: Boy's diagnosed at a young age as "retarded" when the doctor's suddenly realize he's "deaf". Very good acting by the children involved.

The Campaign (2012)

I laughed and was entertained for an hour and a half - pretty much met my expectations.

Watched 'Cockneys vs Zombies' at the weekend and all I can say is that it was as bad as the title implies it will be.

Didn't like it much at all, found it rather boring and tuned out before the half way mark.

I haven't seen it yet to give my opinion, but did you have high expectations for the movie? Or at least expected it to be decent/scary/interesting? Seems like L2R thought it was going to be rather crappy and was surprised when it turned out to be better than crap.

Last movie I saw was City of God (Cidade de Deus). It was a good movie, but I don't understand why it's rated as high as it is on IMDB. It reminded me of another movie, Shottas, which actually came out the same year as City of God (2002), but it's not nearly as highly-regarded or talked about.

my expectations were somewhat stimilated by a thumb up by a work colleage, but still had no idea beyond the title. i had no clue whedon wrote it until reading 4ea's post just now. it's nowhere near the brilliance of dredd, but it plays it's card quite right, and it is quite self conscious. it plays with you a bit, i found it funnier than scary. the premise, once you get it, is pretty friggin cool in this packaging.

was it the same cabin set as in the evil dead?

Cabin beats the shit out of the avengers. It reminded me of watching scream for the first time.

Most people find it difficult to admit, but whedon is a brilliant dialogue writer. Charlie Kaufman started out in television - with shows like Ned and Stacey - before moving on to malkovixh and adaptation. Yes, I am comparing whedon to Kaufman. Cabin is not only highly entertaining, its fucking weirs. Very confident ballsy move on Jose's part.

I thought it was pretty widely accepted that Whedon's dialogue is his 'trademark'. Personally, I really dislike almost everything Joss Whedon has ever done, but I must admit that I've heard so much praise for The Cabin in the Woods that it's on my list of movies to watch...then again, everyone wet their panties over the Avengers and I ended up hating it, so who knows?
