What's one drug-related myth you wish would finally disappear?

While I have no doubt that data is wrong and you have a point I would like to emphasize that they are harmful in very different ways...

if you drink alcohol every day you are probably going to die -- gives you cancer in everything but the retina of the eye.

if you take opiates everyday that is not really a death sentence or going to do your health over the same way ---- however OD, price, (lack of access and legality in short)

Now I have probably lost about an equal amount of friends from both -- but more people drink so as always that checks out with what I know...

I have several.

1) Taking uppers and downers simultaneously is intrinsically super damaging to the heart (no matter which uppers and downers)
2) You can chase OxyContin off tinfoil to good effect
3) Midazolam maleate (Dormicum) is soluble enough in pH-neutral tap water to dissolve 2x15mg into a 3mL rig and shoot up
4) Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone) cannot be used intravenously
5) Elvanse/Vyvanse (lisdexamphetamine) cannot be used intravenously, intranasally, or any other way than orally; other ROAs mean none of it is converted to dexamphetamine
6) You can diagnose ADHD based on how you react to stimulants
7) Stimulants make people with ADHD outright sedated, and are of no recreational interest to those with ADHD
8) If amphetamine sulphate is still keeping you awake longer than 8h after your last dose, it must contain methamphetamine
9) Drinking alcohol before taking methylphenidate produces pharmacologically active, recreational amounts of ethylphenidate in vivo in the same way that alcohol + cocaine produces cocaethylene
10) Because gasoline is used in a step of the extraction process of cocaine, the end product must possess the same toxicity attributes as gasoline.

Ugh. All of these should go away.

That's why I am a strong supporter of the fifth freedom. All well informed adults should have the legal right to take whatever drug(s) they choose, risking the safety of others being the sole constraint. That like alcohol and nicotine products, legal and safe pathways for obtaining said drug(s) should follow the models surrounding [P] medications as they are now. The sole reason for that so someone expert in the field can ensure a person IS well informed.

Clearly when rendered unfit to drive or operate heavy machinery for any reason, there is a responsibility towards others.

I have epilepsy and although it's rarely an issue, I don't drive because I cannot be sure beforehand that I WON'T be render unfit (in quite a spectacular manner).

May also be alot of other people too though!

Psychedelics no longer seem to do it for me, but I kinda suspect I just got weak shrooms as I went up to like 6 grams dried and took a nap. (Which is kind of a thing with me while comin up on psychedlics I start to nod -- oddly) lol

"Psychedelics open the doors to perception".

When in fact, they smash the doors open allowing bad actors to cloud your perception...

(or maybe that's just me... )
100% agree , I always in my life had anxiety but was only body anxiety after psychedelics I have mind anxiety and diagnosed with GAD with some OCD tendencies and I can exactly pinpoint the moments at the trips that those appeared and stick with me.

Cases of people jumping through windows because of drugs are bullshit scare stories, otherwise there would be documentation/evidence. I'm open to being proven wrong though.
I know it's anecdotal and that's not what you're looking for but I have a close friend who related an attempt to leave her apartment through a 4th floor window years back and had to be stopped by a roommate/tripsitter. I don't think she expected to fly so much as felt the need to escape for whatever reason. I do think it might've gone differently had there not been someone watching her, and a lot of people do take drugs alone. People on psychs absolutely do weird shit sometimes. Same friend recently tripped again and ended up convinced she was going to be "put down" as she put it, so went sprinting through the nearby streets/parks and scraped the fuck out of herself on trees/branches/ground/what have you, could've easily been hit by a car or similar (this being in a major city). Ended up being hospitalized briefly. Both of these occurrences were on acid. This is at least a direct secondhand relation from someone I trust and who generally when sober has a really good head on her shoulders (and at least in the latter case was telling me about it basically immediately after she was released from the hospital).

I agree cases are rare, and this is obviously why having a sober tripsitter can be very important. I agree most people don't get this urge (this is the only person I'm aware of personally who has, though another friend injured themselves intentionally smashing a mirror while tripping). Personally I can't imagine trying to leave the house on psychs any stronger than a moderate 2CB dose (and even then).

I think ignoring that there is a risk of doing stupid stuff on psychs that could potentially leave you injured or worse is just as much a disservice as spreading it as though it's a common occurrence/universal risk. Acid experiences famously can be very reliant on what you've got goin' on mentally and dosing I'm sure has a lot to do with that risk as well. Additionally, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of low profile falling deaths are simply ruled suicide without a subsequent tox screening - AFAIK a tox screen isn't inherent to postmortem investigation and has to be ordered.

To be clear I do think the MK Ultra guy was prolly pushed.

In summary, independent of the odds of it happening or not, having a sober sitter you trust is always better harm reduction than being alone while tripping. Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

That alcohol is somehow different, safer, or less destructive than drugs.
I consider ethyl alcohol to be a… well a solvent first and a drug second to that, but a drug nonetheless.

I think ignoring that there is a risk of doing stupid stuff on psychs
Let me very clear: I am not saying you shouldn't be careful on psychedelic drugs. I'm all about urging caution, education, harm reduction and responsible use. I constantly advocate that people use trip sitters, particularly those without much experience with them, and this extends to most drugs (and drinking) in fact. Better to have a trip sitter just in case. You're not saying anything I haven't already said.

What I'm talking about is the bullshit myth that any psychedelic drug could make you believe you could fly and subsequently attempt flying by jumping out of a window. I have yet to see a documented case of this, and in my life personally—and mind you: I've been to dozens of Phish shows, hundreds of raves and have used a wide variety of substances both common and quite rare. Been around people who use drugs my whole life. I've seen freak-outs, crazy shit, hospitalizations… I've seen full-blown drug-induced psychosis at least a half dozen times, and seen people who can't handle acid, shrooms, meth, and/or various psychotropic drugs… I've seen people think they can bend a spoon with their mind bc of how tweeked out they are… but I've never seen a person convinced they could fly or go jumping out of a window in a state of drug-induced confusion.

That's not negating your story nor the importance of using drugs as safely as reasonably possible, okay? Let's not take it to the other extreme. We're on the same side. That story; however, does not feature a person on LSD jumping from a window in the belief that they could fly. "That shit happens!" gives the impression that this is common enough to be a reason to fear taking LSD. And I'm saying, this is an unfounded fear. While there are other dangers to one's safety that should be considered, the "flight from a window" fear is not among them, and focusing on that gives it undue attention disproportionate to its probability.

It's a little bit like putting on a wetsuit and sitting in the tub while you trip because there's always a chance that you might spontaneously combust. There are reports of human spontaneous combustion, you know. Does that seem like something to worry about? I don't think it will make any difference, same as the fear of jumping from windows on acid.

Why is it so hard to understand what I'm saying here?
